Strength:

excellent fit and finish.smooth reliable engine.great styling.ultra comfortable.28 mpg highway

Weakness:

no auto headlights available.side window sweeps don''t work.weak resale value

We went with the Dodge mainly for styling. We own a repair facility and found after talking with customers, that they were happy with their cars.We only saw them for regular maintainance.Previous experiences with pre ''96 chrysler cars were horrible, so I signed with great trepidation.I''m glad to say that after 3 years and 33000 miles I''ve been incredibly pleased. No problems,no kinks,no breakdowns,no nonsense. There was one recall for seatbelt bolts and rather than waste time at the dealer, I took care of it myself. What a great car.Handles excellent for a large car, super comfortable seats, climate control is awesome and has plenty of power with the 3.2 v-6.I have two trivial complaints with the car though, one is that it wasn''t offered with auto headlights(I ordered it with every available option),and second is that the rubber sweeps that are supposed to wipe the door glass when you lower it ,don''t even touch the glass on any of the doors. It makes it difficult to see out the sides on a misty day.Other than that this has been a great car.I would have liked to see some more sport appearance options also, like ground effects and more aggressive looking trim. Now that we''ve had a third child, its time for the Intrepid to make way for a minivan. I want the Dodge but the resale value has me looking at the spartan Odyssey which has an unbelievably high resale(about 71% after 3 years compared to 51% for the dodge.Makes a big difference if you have to buy a new car in three years like I''m forced to right now.)

Strength:

Handle well on highway, lots of room in backseat.

Weakness:

Engine had to be replaced at 89,000 miles. And Dodge will not back this car at all. After checking around for an after market rebuilt engine we were told you could only purchase this engine through Dodge Dealer. Or you could try to find a used engine.

This is a 1999 Dodge Intrepid with a 2.7 engine. Purchased new in St. Louis. This was great handling car, but that where it stops. We owned this car for 3 years with 89,000 miles on it when the engine blw out going down the highway. We had the car towed to a local dealer. The dealer told us that we need a new engine in the amount of $7000. We asked why this engine was blown thier comment was we are not sure. There wasn''t any oil sludge the oil was clean, we changed the oil in this car every 3000 miles. There was no sign of engine problems until the engine just stopped going down the highway. I do not thank you pay $22,000 dollars for a car to only get 89,000 miles. After many attempts to contact Dodge they told us they would not help. I done some research and found there are alot 2.7 engines with the same problem. I would not recommend buying this car to anyone..

Strength:

Lots of leg room, and a large trunk. Looks sporty, but very practical. Comfortable seating.

Weakness:

Very poor headlighting. Terrible road noise. Large blind spots, especially in the rear. My transmission failed at only 84,000 miles. Parts wear out too soon. Very poor paint.

Loved this vehicle from the start, but very annoyed with several things. This vehicle (mine has a rear spoiler) has the looks of a sport car, and the practicality of a family car. Love the roominess, and the light as air drive at higher speeds. Road noise is excessive, and headlights are poor.

Strength:

Good design, layout, handling, and seats.

Weakness:

Dodge should scrap the 2.7L V6 for a more powerful 3.xL.

I wanted a comfortable car to take trips in with my girlfriend and our mountain bikes. Well this car is it and then some. I will not comment on the stereo since I have a Kenwood MP8017 MP3 CD Player (better than carrying 50 cds), but everything else in the car is beautiful. Excellent positioning of controls, good handling, and comfortable seats. My only, albeit minor, gripe is the little 2.7L engine. I just came from a 93 Cougar XR-7, another nice driving car, but it had much more acceleration to it. The reason was the 3.8L V6.

Strength:

Decent Gas mileage, roomy interior, sporty look.

Weakness:

Too many mechanical failures with these vehicles. Failure to notify customers of silent warranties should result in penalty to manufacturer. AC problems are significant. Transmission sensors failing in two vehicles of the same make and model and year should mean something. The hot air blowing when the controls are set to cool is bothersome, especially since it''s happened on two evehicles. The check oil light flickering every time there is a deceleratiion is also worrisome. We are totally dissatisfied with these vehicles! Additionally, when I took the lemon back to LaMarque for a trade-in, I was told that the most I could get was $4500.00 because the resale value of these vehicles is low, and because of known problems with the vehicles. Basically, we were told, we sold you the lemon but we don''t want it back!

My husband and I each have 1999 Dodge Intrepids. We have had identical glitches with our vehicles such as, power window failure, intermittent power window problems, hot air blowing out of the AC vents when on cool. Cool air blowing out of the heater vent when the control is placed to blow as hot as possible, the check oil light comes on when we decelerate or stop, we''ve both replaced the transmission sensors, we''ve both had minor transmission problems, loud road noise, check engine light intermittently comes on, so we take the cars for servicing to find no problems. The AC in one vehicle blows nothing but hot air. The cars bottom out when backing out of driveways that are at a minor incline. Rear vision obstruction, can not see to back up. Peripheral vision interference due to design of vehicle. Brake problems with both vehicles.

not reliable, poor service, dangerous, all around weak product,no accountability from chrysler .I give chrysler a zero rating

In may of 1997, my husband and i were in search of a nice full sized car for afamily of five.we found a sharp black and gray intrepid .We had looked at these cars for about 6 months before trading in our teal green saturn s2.the intrepid had 22,ooo miles on it and no warranty left because of the 3 year mark or 36,ooo.Big mistake!A month after buying this car we thought we''d go to chicago for the weekend and coming into chicago on the busy exspressway the transmission would not go out of first gear.we could have been killed with our children inthe car.LUCKILY WE DROVE IT HOME HAVING TO STOP AND TURN THE CAR OFF TO REBOOT THE TRANSMISSION TO GET OUT OF FIRST GEAR.WE WERE 245 MILES FROM HOME.TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE THE CAR HAD A FLAT TIRE PULLING IN THE DRIVE.THE CARS AIR SYSTEM DIDNT WORK THE FIRST YEAR IN A HALF.THEY JUST FILLED IT UP WILL FREON AND SOLD IT.LUCKILY i STOOD MY GROUND AND DIDNT TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER .we also had all of the trans hoses replace after the rebuilt transmission.I haad a new compressor, condensor, evaporative coil.chrysler doesnt want to admit that if there evaporator coil goes bsd,it can make your condensor and compressor lock up.By the way i was charged 680.00 for the compressor, which chrysler later reimbursed me for admitting they shoulnt of charged me for it.as for the trans problems we paid 50.00 deductible, which may not seem like a big deal ,but the stress this car has caused my husband and i does not have a price.not to long ago at 60,000 mile our rotors and brake were shot .we had to replace the tie rods also .final price tag 720.00.our car now has 76,000 miles,it''s hard to believe that''s all with so many major problems.I really feel for people who are buying the newer dodge anything. As soon as you drive away the nightmare is yours. We once had someone ask us if we new what dodge meant in the dictionary?to move or run away from sadly he was right.so right!

Strength:

Lots of room. Handle well on the highways.

Weakness:

Costly engine repairs. Company will not stand behind this vehicle.

I purchased this car new. It now has 89,000 miles on it. Until now the car has been an excellent car. It currently sits at a dealer with a blown engine. The dealer and Dodge will not back this engine. They say it has to many miles on it. Well I thought when you pay $21,000 for a new vehicle and you maintain the car. It should get at the very least 150,000 miles. Now this engine is going to cost us $7000, because there is not an after market engine we have to purchase this through Dodge or buy a salvage engine. I would on sugest buying this vehicle if you have a deep pocket to repair this car.

Strength:

Lots of power and room. Nice design

Weakness:

Expensive parts and expensive repair bills when taken to the dealer.

The vehicle is reliable and has lots of room. The 3.5 with the Autostick allows for great acceleration. The only drawbacks I have had with the car are the window appliques cracking and fading. The AC seem to be working ok so far, but water pump is showing signs of needing to be replaced (Only 55,000 miles). I will say that if D&C want my business in the future, they better stop charging Mercedes repair prices for their Dodge lines. They also need to use better quality parts for disposable items like brake pads, batteries and tires.
