Strength:

Beautiful paint job candy apple red! Very roomy with comfortable leather seats. Great stock infinity stereo system (even though we trashed that and put a real system in)

Weakness:

The electrical system SUCKS! Eats a lot of gas. Power wise doesn''t pick up and go. Wish it ran as good as it looks. When we tried to go back to the dealer to trade it in they offered us $8,500.00?!? In three years the car depreciated $10,000.00. Does the dealer know something we the consumer doesn''t? I think so. By the way 6 of our friends who have the same make and model all had the same problem with the electrical. (I think it''s time for a recall)

If looks could kill this car would kill you. This car is such a sweet ass looking car from the outside... We purchased this car a little over a year ago and let me see if I even have enough fingers to count how many problems we''ve had. First it started with the output sensor we were driving along the highway doing about 70 and in a blink of an eye the spedometer drops to like 10 mph and the cars unable to get out of first gear and you end up using the manual shift but you can''t get out of first gear (thank God we didn''t get in an accident) We took it in and a week later the same thing happens again only now it''s the input sensor and it''s like 4:00 a.m. on a windy backroad where there''s no street lights or houses for miles (nightmare). Then two months later the driver side windows can''t role up or down so we take it in and they say the electrical seems to have shorted and they replace the glass windows becase they''ve misaligned. Then a couple months later the rubber molding around the front windshield cracks and it has to be replaced along with the windshield....the list goes on and on. Currently our passenger side windows don''t role up and down and have to be replaced. But we''ve tapped all of our resources...at least the a/c is ice cold so we don''t have to role down our windows...but who wants to live in Hawaii with your windows roled up!

Strength:

Lots of power, handling is great, styling is extremly appealing, lots of room in the car and trunk, very roomy in the back seat since i have two kids........

Weakness:

Bottom end of engine had to be rebuilt(crank shaft and bearings),window motor on passenger window is shot, oil pump had to be replaced, timing belt and pullies also replaced, sway bar links had to be replaced which was making a rattle noise in front end over bumps, annoying lifter noise(clicking),and now there is a problem with the back breaks making a clunk when i apply the breaks

Well i dont know where to begin....I love the styling and handling of this car but the repairs i have had to endure make me wonder if Ill ever buy this product again....This car was a rental, yes i know how they are driven, but i figured that an automobile this new would be ALOT more reliable then it has been.....I must say the dealership from where i bought the car has been outstanding but that doesnt compensate for the time my car has been in the shop.....I had the car for only TWO days when the bottom end of the engine let go,thank god for extended warranties(i suggest on getting the wanrantee if you plan on bying a `99 intrepid).....They rebuilt the bottom end with no qiests asked along with replacing the oil pump, timing belt and pullies......This satisfied me until about 3 days after it was fixed the lifters(told it was this from and engine rebuilder of mine)started making an annoying ticking noise which the dealership say is normal(NOT).....along with this, the passenger window motor has to be replaced, the driver side window came out of its tack and shattered all to pieces and ive noticed a loud noise coming from the rear end of the car when i go to place the breaks on.......And,the sway bar links had to be replaced all of this work was covered under my extended warantee(thank god)........All in all the car handles well, plenty of power to my liking and gas mileage is ok but could be better........I would never recommend buying this car to anyone........

Model Reviewed: Intrepid ES (3.2 L Engine)

Strength:

It''s a very quite running car (in the way of engine noise during acceleration). The 3.2L has really good acceleration. The roome is amazing, especially trunk and back seat room. The handling around corners is pretty acceptable as well. Headlights are great at night, especially the high beams.

Weakness:

Inner door parts begin to rattle causing a very annoying experience. Driver door seals are not made very well, allowing wind noise in--very annoying. Suspension is very stiff, hence the smallest of bumps are felt. Engine or transmission noise heard when the shifting from first to second gear. Customer service manager heard the noise on a test run but stated that since the noise was so hard to locate, and because it would have taken them too much time to find it, they didn''t want to repair it...especially since I was still under warranty and "they wouldn''t get paid for it". Traction control works very well, but the ABS doesn''t grab the road as well, hence I still experienced some significant sliding during the winter even with very reduced speeds. Poor warranty on the trip parts (inner and outer). Paint was peeling on some outer trip parts, and the dealership would not fix it. Has a problem with the "slapstick", as it stopped working for some reason. Infinity stereo driver side bottom door speaker was stuffed with insulation to prevent vibration. Now it doesn''t work (but not as a result of the previous). Rear windshield def is really not worth a damn. Takes 10 minutes

This is a 1998 Chrysler Intrepid ES with a 3.2L engine. Purchased used in Canada at $19,995 with 55,000 Km on it. Great car for travelling. Too big for city driving.

This car has everything a mid-sized family could asked for. It has more power than most cars in this price range. Plenty of room, sporty, and a great ride. That pretty much sums it up.

Strength:

great exterior styling, roominess, smooth ride when the car isn''t making noises

Weakness:

brakes, poor construction and materials, terrible dealer experiences complaints seem to be common across the board

The styling and roominess of my dodge intrepid is all that i could ask for, but my happiness ends there. the car was bought new and only has 45,000 miles on it. At 37,000 miles, i began experiencing a knocking noise coming from the engine. i took it to the dealer and after 2 weeks, they couldn''t figure out the problem. after about 2 more weeks, they figured out that the computer was malfunctioning and causing the engine to idle too low. it also wasn''t sending the diagnostic code and that is why they couldn''t figure out the problem. other problems include warped rotors, 2 sets of brakes, drivers side window sticks, anti freeze leak, a/c fan makes weird noise, car jumps and sounds as if it will turn off right after startup, and a swaybar link replacement - the dealer told me that i would need new swaybar, links, struts, and front end alingnment all for $800. they said that dodge didn''t make the swaybar that i needed anymore. i found the part that i needed at a toyota used car dealership for $60. go figure. trading the car in as soon as possible!!!

Strength:

Style is awesome, roomy inside the cabin and trunk, a lot of car for the money

Weakness:

SERIOUSLY UNDERPOWERED. The 2.7 is a glorified four-cylinder. Needs at least 50 more horsepower as standard equipment. Build quality is poor. I have had the drivers power window motor replaced, and the right rear power window has stopped working on occasion. Transmission slips on occasion. Hopefully if it does go, it will happen before I hit 36,000

If only Chrysler could build a car where the quaility of manufacture matched the beautiful design... I love this car, but the build quality is atrocious. With only 21,000 on the odometer, the door trim always creaks, and the dashboard creaks over small bumps, and the exterior sheetmetal doesn''t fit together so snug in places. Chrysler needs to come up with a better solution for it''s black trim also. It''s already shot, and the car is only a year old. There are lots of little glitches, but so far nothing major. At this point, I''m not sure if I''d buy another one.

Strength:

Solid, quiet ride. Very comfortable for cruising. Great for picking up clients/co-workers for business functions. Reasonably powerful engine/acceleration for price paid.

Weakness:

Outside of maintenance items like brake pads & oil changes, a lot of minor and major fixes were required throughout the 5 years I''ve owned the car: (items fixed under warranty marked with **) ==>Left power mirror rattled/loose and was fixed**. ==>Power wiper timer/assembly/motor failed (wipers would not shut off) and was fixed**. ==>Air conditioning condenser and related components failed, were replaced, coolant recharged, and re-sealed**. ==>Electrical system shorted out, damaged the battery, damaged the left power window motor. All replaced**. ==>Power lock switches don''t always engage all locks. Often have to press multiple times to ensure all locks function. Not fixed - just annoying. ==>Battery failed 2 years after dealer installed new battery due to electrical short. Not covered under warranty and I replaced out-of-pocket. ==>Air conditioning coolant re-charged twice and re-sealed over 18 month period. ==>Air conditioning/defrost failed (Oct/2001) 4 months after being re-charged/re-sealed. Fixes to condenser and related components are required (estimated price from dealer CDN$1500 based on 8-9 hours labour). Warranty items fixed ok and the dealership serv

"Solid" car on the road. I test drove a lot of cars before trying the Intrepid. The smooth ride and solid handling at all speeds sold me. Ample interior head/leg room for those of us over 6 feet tall. Bought the basic 22C model with no upgrades. Cruised to/from Toronto and Florida and actually enjoyed the drive. Despite the minor/major fixes described below, I still enjoy the car. I''m not sure whether I would buy another Intrepid without first doing a lot of research for consumer/mechanic reports. All prices quoted in this review are in Canadian dollars.

Strength:

This car rides like a dream, smooth and comfortable, I am still amazed how nice this car rides, remember $22K. The seats are big and comfortable, it seats 5 no problem. Power from the 3.2 engine is good, very smooth, not a burner, but is good enough.Handling is good, but again, this car is a dream on the freeway.

Weakness:

Brakes!!! Very weak, need a lot of pedal effort. Leather looks like plastic. Too much road noise comes in from the outside. Tire change will help that.

This was my first EVER american car. I bought it because of it''s size, style and value. 22K fully loaded, with leather, great deal. I have put 42,000 miles on it in 20 months, and I have not regreted one mile. For the most part it has been trouble free, all small items were taken care of under warranty. Door seals replaced and power window issues, all taken care of ASAP and with no hassles.
