Weakness:
TRANSMISSION problems with shifting and no speed O reading when shifting problems occured. (Cost to repair, $0.00, and did it myself with no tools.) after the dealer and three other shops quoted me more than $3,000 for trans work. Email me for quick fix. After a year from the time of my fix, NO PROBLEMS WITH SHIFTING AT ALL, NONE. Very pleased with car. You have to take care of it or it will let you know if you are not. This car has a lot of room as well as power. Feels good to drive and handels well. I preform routine maintance on the car to keep it running well. I am a computer technician and travel a four state area putting an average of 2000 miles a month on my car, it still runs as well as a new one, and with better gas mileage. Strength:
very good acceleration, spacious trunk and interior
Weakness:
water pump, d/t aerodynamic design the legnth of the hood takes some getting used to It has been a very reliable car, with the exception of the water pump. I bought it used with 50k miles on it and have had to get the water pump fixed twice in a year. Since the second time, it hasn't been a problem. It is very peppy and gives you a lot of torque for a car. Even though it doesn't have leather, the interior is comfortable and the dials are fairly intuitive. The stock stereo wasn't much to listen to, but it wasn't a big deal to swap out for something better. It gets really good highway mpg compared to city. I get around 30-35 highway and 20-25 city. I would recommend it to anyone who wants something that has a lot of space (I'm 6'5" and have all kinds of room) but is still sporty. Similar Products Used: '00 Chevy Malibu, the Intrepid is much more powerful; '98 Maxima, very similar, but the Maxima was a tad nicer |

Weakness:
Silver color tends to fade especially on the door molds (had a new paint job and car looks like new) Fixed A/C condensor no more A/C problems GREAT CAR!!!!! Sports car in disguise. Great ride. Bought car used with 75,000 miles from a corporation. The cars runs better now than when I bought it. Current miles on car 178,000+ (Lots of trips from west to east coast). I drive my car hard an expect alot from it, this car can handle what you throw at it and it's easy to maintain yourself. Just put new 17" Konig Caffine wheels with Pirelli PZero 235/50/17 tires and a highflow exhaust. With new chip no more gas shut-off can go way beyond registered speed. Top speed done so-far top gear at 4 1/2 rpm @ 30mph per rpm=135mph before new set of rims & tires. Thank god for computer chip(price$350.00). Want info for computer chip e-mail me. It looks nice, except the paint is peeling. The leather interior is nice
Weakness:
Read above, we cannot afford the car anymore! By the end of the day our charge card will have another $500 added to it by this stupid car! What can I say? I am here on the web trying to figure out what vehicle I will buy next. My car is currently in the shop for the third time this month. This time they say $500 for a new water pump and timing belt. We have paid in the last 3 years of owning this car over $8000 in repairs. New Engine, Fuel rails, thermostats, brakes, brakes, brakes, radiator, belts, belts, belts, The air conditioner is always going out. the electric locks in both front doors do not work. We average about $200 every month in repair bills. Why do we still have the car? We owe still over $3000 personal loan on a new engine and we are upside down on our car loan by about $2000. We can't afford to keep it or to sell it!!!!! Similar Products Used: We had a 1988 Jeep Cherokee and never had any problems till it started by itself and ran into our house in 1998. We also have a 1991 GMC Vandura with hardly ever a problem. |

TRANSMISSIONS-should be a recall issue!!!Water pumps, A/C, Fuel rail. For all you folks who haven't replaced multiple transmissions, you are lucky! Bought new. Have 125k on it. Two transmissions. Two water pumps. Fuel Rail and fuel pump. Blown head gasket (x2). Oil leaked into the #6 spark plug, will try never to pay to have this fixed as it still runs. Over five years that averages out to over $100 per month in maintenace costs. This seems extremely excessive to me. In the meantime I have owned two caravan's with no problems(traded at 70k). Just wondering, how is it I am to "properly maintain" transmission control units, water pumps and fuel system components? Get a grip on reality folks, these are weak links in the majority of intrepids. As for A/C, it seems most cars have this weakeness and I'm not gonna pick on this area. Similar Products Used: Ford Snorus. I can't believe anyone would spend more money on a taurus when they could buy an Intrepid, oops, when you count the maint. expense I could have bought a Mercedes. |

style is unmatched by any other new car no matter what the price. besides that, it's got it all: very roomy (HUGH trunk), good gas mileage, comfort, performance. i love it, my friends love it, my grandma loves it!
Weakness:
the a/c seems weak at times but i do live in phoenix after all. there is really nothing wrong with MY intrepid. I love my 99 intrepid. it was a rental with 30K miles and one year old when i got it. you know how they (we) treat rental cars, but it runs and drives great! no problems at all - everything works fine. i knew when i bought the car i was not getting a car with a good reputation for reliability but i gave into its looks and have no regrets so far. it's a dream on long trips. size, appearance, fairly comfy,
Weakness:
Transmission, electrical system and computer system, brakes, gaskets around doors, poor visibility parking(cant tell where it ends front or back), obstructed view looking side to side out front window, I was so excited to get my first new car that would be just mine.......my kids were grown and no teenagers would be drivng it. I am the main driver. First the lights, spedometer, odometer, directionals etc all started doing their own thing. It took numerous visits and finally a tantrum with the manager to get it fixed. A new computer center fixed that. Then it started skipping, hesitating, etc when shifting....still does....worse at times. It wouldn't shift at all on a recent trip to Boston.I turned it off and restarted it. After a week of sitting in a parking garage, it shifted fine. No trouble since, but this has happened before and was reporte, but only documented twice. Now there I have 78,000 miles on it and the warantee is gone, they want to replace the transmission. Chrysler has offered to pay just over half I want them to pay all but the $100 deductible....just as though it was on warantee. This is not a new problem. Money to be made folks! The list goes on. Brake repair, AC repair (still doesn't cool), rubber around doors hanging off, rattle in the blower in front, loud screeching in cold weather, etc etc. What a pain and a worry this car has been! And it still looks great......shiney and new looking. I HAVE NOT abused it in any way. Similar Products Used: Chevrolet Cavalier (never any transmission problems with THAT), Chevy station wagon, |

I like my car from day 1. very honest car and i agree with others that most people that complain don't take care of their cars. most people go cheap by doing themselves. (well you get what you put in. bought the car at 52,000 and it is overall fine. Very roomy - nice stereo and chics dig it.
Weakness:
there are weaknesses in EVERY vehicle. If people are experiencing problems have you ever heard of EXTENTED WARRANTY! I have one and it has been a savor. the only big item i put in the car was tie rods. check around for prices and warranty services. if your car has under 100,000 miles for about hundered dollars a month for a year you can still buy a warranty that covers bumper to bumper and 3yrs everything included. GIVE me a yell at goines@clarityconnect.com and i'll help ya out. PEACE none Similar Products Used: None |

I have read some of the other messages on Intrepids below and I just cant believe all the problems these people are having,my car has 94,000 miles and yes there have been a few problems but these people with major problems obviously are not taking care of their cars!
Weakness:
Only problems with my car are the windows tend to go up down very slow in the winter, and the factory speakers have got to go! Otherwise smoothest ride I have ever felt and very quiet 3.3L V6! In the future I may trade my Intrepid in for a 2001 R/T. I am also looking at the 300M which is very nice but Overall it seems my 94 Intrepid is working better than most peoples 99 and 00 models on here. Then again that goes back to how you treat your car!
