Strength:

Comfortable leater seats that resist cracking, fairly decent interior styling, roomy, accelerates fast for a 4 large door sedan.

Weakness:

Damn, where do i start? Overall a poor quality car, i believe most dodges are- ive owned 2. The rattles are unbearable at times. Transmission replaced and still hesistates at times too much (its normal for a car to hestitate when ac is on but not this much) especially in hot weather when ac is turned on. The horrible "premium" infinity speakers are complete garbage, expect them to blowout on you. Especially the front ones. At times the front speakers work (when raining, i found this most disturbing) most of the time they dont work. Horrible power seat adjustors for the driver. The seat barely moves forward now it just moves kinda side to side due a dodge recall that the service center wont replace b/c the recall doesnt not cover the part that breaks. Dont ask me why...Suspension is of horrible quality, cv boots replaced from time to time. More often than it should be. No folding mirrors. And the most horrible thing of all- i've been informed by several mechanics that there are unforgivable electrical problems with this car- signaled by the low beam lights going out from time to time (not due to bulb) which causes some sort of short in the computer which tends then to catch on fire. Believe me i've experienced it on the highway. My car just suddenly can to a slow halt with smoke pouring from the hood smelling of burnt wires. Major safety issues. Ac condensor has major problems, expect to fix it which is a ridiculous amount of $$$$. I've gotten it fixed before. Alignment problems, never aligns right. Window goes down slower than normal in winter and rain. Door seals are poor mine leaks in the driver side in rain. The moral is---- NEVER EVER BUY A FRIGGIN DODGE, NEW OR USED!

Major, major safety issues with this car. I've had plenty of experience with Dodges, and basically they are all pieces of s---! They are just engines with crappy everything else. If you value life dont even think of buying one.

Strength:

I am amazed at the number of negative reviews on these cars, although there are some key weak areas. My car was a one-owner local trade, and had 96K on the clock when I bought it. By and large, this has been a really good, dependable car. Only thing I have had to do was have the tranny built (the MAIN problem on these,it seems)...BUT, It was because I took it in for a fluid and filter change, and the shop did not properly install the pan gasket, and..you guess the rest! The tranny was fine before that,so the shop bought me a tranny rebuild! This is the best handling car I have ever owned,it has an amazing amount of room, and just looks great. I am running a set of American Racing 5-spoke polished alloys on this bad boy, and it has almost a "muscle car" stance to it...a very handsome automobile. Another weak link with these cars seems to be the a/c, but as luck had it (my luck anyway!), the system had already crapped out, and the previous owner had the system totally rebuilt! This car has a great climate control system..very effective (if it does'nt go out again!) This is a large ,comfortable car withough being stodgy and boring.

Weakness:

Okay, now for the worst part...THOSE GOSH-DARNED HEADLIGHTS!!!! GEEZ Chrysler..what were you thinking?!? On a dark highway, they are downright scary. I am about to install some halogen running lights, I hope it helps! Also, mine has the optional "firm-feel" suspension, which is a little harsh. I wish mine had come with the "touring" suspension, which is supposed to yield a good ride. Sometimes the seats get a little uncomfortable too. I have a bad water leak in the back window, and the ft. pass. side power window is slow. Again though,..I've driven this car for almost 2 yrs, and it has never put me down anywhere.

I like my Intrepid, and except for a few minor quibbles, have really enjoyed owning and driving it. I have heard a lot of horror stories, but...so far so good!

Strength:

Speed, acceleration, handling, style, everything.

Weakness:

Had it for 2 weeks and speedometer sensor was bad. Also looking at possible transmission problems (fluid is a little dark). From reading the other reviews it seems that the transmission on these things is a real crapshoot. Half the people have no problems, half have major problems. I hope I'm in the right half because i CANNOT afford a major repair. If this thing craps out its back to living with the parents.

Haven't owned it long enough to really judge it, but so far its served me well. I'm driving it like a grandma to hopefully spare the incredibly weak transmission (parents had a Caravan, rock this thing once in the snow and its a goner). I just hope im in the right half

Strength:

Looks great. Spacious. Confortable.

Weakness:

Unreliable engine. Mine is, anyway.

I purchased my Intrepid less than three years ago. I had all the required maintenance work done by the original dealership. I now have 83,000 km on it (51,500 miles). A week ago, the engine started doing some strange noise. I took it to the nearest garage, only to be told that my problem was I was out of oil, which surprised be since I had the oil changed about 3,000 km ago. Furthermore, no light ever came on to wanr me of some impending trouble. The mechanic put in three liters and recommended I take the car to the dealership, which I did the next day. At the dealership, they looked at it and said they couldn't figure out where the oil was going but there was indeed a leak somewhere. They would have to take the engine completely apart and then figure out which parts needed to be replaced. According to them, it would be less costly to buy and install another engine. Plain and simple. And since they don't make it anymore, they'd have to use an engine coming from a wreck. They said that for about $6,000 (Canadian), they could do the job. And since the warranty expired at 60,000 km, they could do nothing to reduce my financial burden except charge me $60 an hour for labour instead of the usual $72. Woop-dee-doo! This is my second Intrepid. The previous one I kept for five years and it was five years of hell. The car spent more time at the garage than in my garage. Yet, I bought another one because I fell in love with the new 1998 styling. Boy, do I hate myselft right now!

Plenty of power. It's not exactly a Viper, but It can hold its own (it's a 4-door sedan for pete's sake). Handles great too. It really hides its size. Unless you're parking you can't tell it's as big as it is. Cavernous interior.

Weakness:

Front speakers don't work, and had to replace the alternator.

Would recommend this product to anyone. It is a great car. Dodge really put together a winner.

Strength:

Size, roominess, power, pick-up speed.

Weakness:

Some paint peeling off of plastic molding between rear side windows and back window

Have owned over a year and for 15K miles, just oil changes and new belts (new belts were only suggested by my mechanic, I had it done now though as a preventative measure. Plus the car has been so nice, I figured she would be happy with new belts.)
This car is very well equipped (ABS,fog lights, backseat A/C), very powerful and feels sporty for a large car. It is fun to drive. Great highway gas mileage (32-34 MI). Good for families (is safe), commuters, and those looking for power.

Speed, handling, reliability, can whip a pre-'98 Mustang GT into submission in STOCK form.

Weakness:

Cost of general maintenance parts (tires, brakes, etc...), not the fault of the car.

Picked up the car in 1998 with 64,000 miles on the odometer. I presently have 138,000 miles on the vehicle, and she still gets up and GOES. Only have had one breakdown in the time I have had the car, a stuck thermostat caused that (a whopping $6 to fix). A/C compressor seized a few months ago, other than that she still runs perfect. I'd recommend one to anybody who could afford one (car isn't cheap to maintain). Only things I have had to replace so far are the timing belt (preventative), EGR Valve/Solenoid, and the ATC controls (temp controls). Tires (good ones, like Michelin XGT's) will set you back about $600 for 4 with extended warranty. Gas mileage is acceptable, 22mpg for a mix of highway/local driving. I'll buy another one if I have the opportunity.

Strength:

Overall handles well, roomy interior.

Weakness:

Very bad repair history. This cary will put you in the poor house. It constantly has problems and needed repairs.

Car was purchased new. Well maintained with oil changed every 3,000 miles. Other service performed regularly. First problem was speaker system at 40,000. Power steering pump replaced and valve cover gaskets replaced at 70,000. Front main oil seal leak, steering/tie rod rubber bushings, winshield wiper problems all by 90,000. Also driver door window support flexs to the point it has cracked. This wasn't built strong enough to handle the window movement. I now have 92,000 and must the power steering pump is leaking again. I do not recommend this product. There have been several other small problems. Compared to previous autos owned, this one is bad news.
