handles good (when it runs)

Weakness:

Transmission

Electronic's
Body integrity

I would pay people to stay away from the dodge products - they would thank me in the long run!

Sorry to the Tech's at Chrysler but you guy's did an awful job on these - now I am stuck with the bill for things that should't of happened

If anyone has a used 3.5 L engine I am looking for one!

Strength:

+style, quite a looker in Candy Apple Red with Driftwood lower trim
+plenty of room for five adults and a huge trunk
+powerful with a 3.5 and autostick
+comfortable on trips, car of choice in the family
+reliable, very few trips to the dealer
+good in snow here in New England
+great dealer service

Weakness:

-brakes have always had a soft grinding sound, replaced pads at 45,000... didn't help
-radio problems... cassette re-wind sometimes comes on without a tape in the radio
- crackling sound of back window on hot days
- headlights could be brighter

Paid $19,500 with discount and rebate when new. Have driven Chrysler products since the mid-sixties. It is the best all-around car I have ever owned. It had a distortion in the windshield when we purchased it. Dealer noticed it first and arranged for replacement. It is quite peppy with the 3.5 and autostick. Friends are amazed by the amount of room inside, especially in the back. Trunk handles everything we need to move. Except for a couple of problems...radio tape player malfunctioning and loud brakes, it has been very dependable.

I would highly recomend this car and plan to purchase another Intrepid next year. It is a large automobile. My wife prefers the size of her Neon for darting around through traffic and for parking, but loves the Intrepid on a trip.

Strength:

Roomy interior, big trunk, nice ride

Weakness:

air conditioner, water pump, front end, transmission, wiper blades

I had to fix A/C twice, I replaced the water pump, I had a problem with front end.The wiper blades for my car have to be gotten from the dealer( or so I was told)because the washer fluid nozzle is built into the blade and they cost about $27 dollars each and last about 6 months.I got lucky with one of the blades and it lasted over a year before it started smearing the windshield. I LUCKILY haven't had a problem with the transmission yet. I know that at any minute it could go out...it's like a ticking time bomb.I have 97500 on it right know and the warranty is to 100000. I am getting rid of it before the extended warranty runs out. The warranty co. doesn't even want to deal with me anymore. I have had 3-4 repairs in the last month. I think this is a sign that its time to replace my vehicle. After I have replaced everything it seems to be running fine...but then again who knows when something will break. I wouldn't recommend this car unless you have a good extended warranty. I figure you will eventually have to replace all the problem areas at least once.

Everything else

I would strongly recommend staying away from Dodge products in general. They are infamous for their problems with the transmissions. This car is proving that and more. I've had the motor replaced twice – by the dealership, and rebuilt once. The intake manifold gasket is a constant problem - so far costing me approximately $400 every 3 months. Every mechanic I've brought it to state that this is a chronic problem, that will "go away" when the car is traded - and only then.

If you're looking for a reliable car, that you would like to drive more than have sitting in a garage bay for repairs, this is definitely not the car for you.

Strength:

Style, room, looks.

Weakness:

Just about everything. Evaporator went out first month. Just like every body elses. (Will one of those proper maintenance idiots please tell me how to maintain an evaportor so that it doesn't go out in 28 days?) Just like everbody else my inner tie rod bushings melted in six months. Hmm. How to maintain tie rod bushings, any ideas? Got slow coolant leak right now, can't find it. Air bag light is on. No tranny problems but I am counting the days. I'm trying to get this scrap heap on wheels paid down enough so I can get a real car. Too many other nagging problems I won't even relate.

Got a top of the line fully loaded ES for 22,500.00. Sorry Dodge, I will never purchase another Dodge product ever again. After decades of engineering feats you think you could make a product that would last a little longer. We live in a country where the Fat Cat auto makers no we suckers are going to buy what ever they produce. And their products have not gotten any more reliable. They are throw aways. Those 2000 Maximas sure look nice don't they!

Strength:

Car rides nice, is roomy, handles well and looks great. Unfortunately none of that matters if it barely goes down the road, so read below!!

Weakness:

Many, many problems from the start. Transmission replaced at 50k miles and am afraid we are about to have to replace it again at 70k miles. Rack & pinion went at around 30k. Numerous electrical problems - dome lights kept going on and off by themselves (even with the car parked and shut off, all of a sudden, ping! Our dome lights would pop on) Check engine light has come on and off for years, dealers have checked repeatedly and cannot find a reason for it. I noticed 2 people who have had good luck with this car comment that these problems must be due to lack of proper maintenance - NOT!!! One person stated that requiring a 3rd transmission at 70k miles must be due to the driver's habits - NOT!! We have always maintained this vehicle on a regular basis and do not drive rough or mis-use it. The 95 Intrepids are pieces of crap. I work with someone who has had similar problems with hers and have a cousin in another state who filed lemon law on his and the dealer was forced to buy it back.

Would not recommend a 1995 Intrepid to anyone; you might as well just
throw money out the window. If you purchase one, keep the telephone numbers of the towing places handy.

Electrical problems with windows and door locks. Dome lights come on by themselves at times. Heat stuck when airconditioner was on. Transmission out at 35,000 miles. We have been told that it is a sensor, not sure if transmission will follow. Have been told by a number of people that they have had the same sensor problem with the 1999 Intrepid. It is still in the shop going on two weeks.

We love the car, the looks, and the room. However, we could not recommend the reliability or cost efficiency.

a/c was charged and lastest only a month.
breaks replaced because of rattling noise and now they squeak louder than they rattled. right now i am having problems with the check engine light being on.... went through the code deal and it says the egr valve needs to be replaced but am having problems finding where the heck the egr valve is located... so if anyone knows please tell me. because just putting black tape over the check engine light doesnt cut it!

i paid 14000 for the intrepid but would really like to get rid of it by the way other people have had problems... my problems really only seem minor... but would like to own a truck. any recommendations?

Strength:

roominess, trunk space, drives well, good pickup, dependable

Weakness:

"cosmetic things" as in plastic trim broke, power window motors had to be replaced.

I received this car as a birthday present from my husband. I love how the car looks. It is basically a sedan, but has the look of a sports car. The car has an enormous trunk, and lots of room in the front and back seats. It can fit 5 adults very comfortably. I would recommend anyone buy this car who needs room for family members especially young children because of all of the room in the trunk for carrying all of the equipment needed for infants. I don't think there is anyone who shouldn't buy it.
