Model Reviewed: Dodge Intrepid

Strength:

Everything is at the drivers fingertips, window locks(small children), doors automatically lock when you shift into first gear, and spacious interior

Weakness:

No cup holders and no under-the-hood lighting

Looks, drives, and rides like a dream with stylish and very roomy interior. A little difficult to park because of the long sloping front end and difficult to back because of the high rear end. A side-rear blind spot from the drivers seat, but not a real problem. I have had no problems with it at all.

Strength:

Roomy, lots of room for friends to pile into car and ride. Love the power. It's a family car that I'll take against a sporty mazda or any other foriegn car.

Weakness:

Had to replace tranny, brakes, many other things. Bought the car for $6400 and have put $4000 into it. But damn I like it.

Awsome car. I've done some things to it to look quite sporty(brow writing, spoiler, racing strips, stereo system, and other lettering). Love it's power and sportiness. Would never buy anything but an Intrepid

Alot better ride and more roomy than the '87 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe I used to drive. Could kick it's but off the line any day too.

Model Reviewed: Intrepid

Strength:

This car has a very spacious interior with lots of leg room in the back. My intripid has smooth acceration and good fuel ecconomy. So far, I have not experienced any electrical problems. The integrity of the interior supurb if maintained by owner (the material on the seats is rugged and durable). Above average proformance and handling. I haven't had any fluid leakage. Although other '93 Intrepids have had major transmission problems, I have not experiences any problem that a transmission filter change could not fix. The trunk is cavernous with a full sized spare tire. I have the basic '93 Intrepid, yet it is still loaded with featurres such as: power windows, locks, six way adjustable drivers seat, and trunk release, and also cruise control, tilt wheel, air conditioning, rear window defroster, variable speed window wipers, lighted entry, bench seat, am/fm radio.

Weakness:

The clear coat on my Intrepid is starting to peal. The trunk weather stripping is leaking small amounts of water. It makes alot of noise during operation. My drivers window has trouble going up straight. the brakes go fast on this car. white smoke comes out of the tail pipe during hard acceleration. Glove box latch gets lose.

I love this car. I have had it for about 2 years now and it hasn't let me down yet. This car got bad reports in the consumer magazines and I can't see why. Maby I got the only good one in the bunch, or maby there just all good cars.

I had an 87 honda accord before. I can't compare the two cars since the honda ran trouble free for 250,000 miles. I only have 59,000 on the Intrepid. So far so good though.

Strength:

Size and handling. The trunk size, although my car doesn't allow the back seats to fold down, that would be nice. The cup holders. This car has power and grace. I trust it on long trips.

Weakness:

I am not alone in this, those power windows are a bear! 3 out of 4 windows are dead. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL PROBLEM! The blind spots are bad, especially out the rear window and down the left side of the windshield. Paint chips occur easily. These are minor problems, I have read some of the other reports, I hope those problems are not something I have to look forward to.

For the longest time I had been desiring to purchase an Intrepid. Now that I have one, I am very satisfied with my car. I love the handling, the speed, the size, the style and the trunk is huge. It's a good family car I hope to own for a long time. I don't really have any major problems with the car, just the ones listed under weaknesses. My whole family enjoys the car and my dad liked mine so much he went out and bought one for business use. Do I get somekind of commission for that? Ha! Thanks Dodge for making a great car.

SPORTS CAR LOOKS, POWER, ECONOMY, PRICE(EVEN IN FULLY EQUIPT MODELS)

Weakness:

ONLY PROBLEMS I HAD WITH THIS CAR IS WATER PUMP (I CHANGE ABOUT 4 OF THEM IN 5 YEARS) AND HEADLAMP.

INCREDIBLE CAR, INCREDIBLE PRICE, INCREDIBLE VALUE. PERFECT CHOICE FOR SOMEONE LIKE ME, OVER 6 FEET TALL AND OVER 240 POUNDS. HUGE INTERIOR, SMALL EXTIRIOR. EXCELLENT PERFOMANCE ( EVEN KNOW THAT I HAVE SMALLEST ENGINE). HANDLE BETTER THAN MY DAD'S JETTA, AND REMEMBER THAT THIS IS FULL SIZE CAR. I GOT OVER 100,000 MILES WITH $120.OO WORTH OF REPAIRS ( KNOCK ON WOOD). CHEAP TO INSURE AND EASY TO CUSTUMIZE. ENGINE WILL TAKE A LOT OF PUNISHMENT. AND TO THE PEOPLE WHO COMPLAINE ABOUT MECHANICAL PROBLEMS I GOT ONE THING TO SAY, "THIS IS A COMPLICATED MASHINE, TAKE CARE OF IT AND IT WILL LAST YOU YEARS TO COME". DO NOT BLAME CAR, BLAME YOURSELF FOR NOT TAKING CARE OF IT.
SO IF LOOKING FOR A CAR WITH SPORTIE LOOKS, CHEAP INSURIECE, EXCELLENT ENGINE , BUY INTREPID.

Strength:

Aggressive styling, tight handling, nice ride, TONS of room, huge trunk, plentiful power especially over 80 mph, the car will rocket to 115 in seconds!!! Adequate ergonomics.

Weakness:

Transmission sensor went at 74k, wind noise, road noise, poor craftmanship, poor fit and finish, power windows like to seize up especially the drivers window.

75000 miles and still going. Doesn't use or leak oil, trans fluid, or any other lifebloods. A/C blows cold. Good car especially the amount that I drive. Plus with the conditions of Houston roads, the chassis is holding up nicely. No problems with electrical systems. Cross my fingers!!!!

Strength:

Power, room looks. So aerodynamic that rain doesn't hit rear window glass in heavy rain! The car has a 4 speed trans....I can never tell when it shifts....feels like a ONE speed. Corners better than a Camaro. Rear fold down seats on ES definitely worth it!

Weakness:

Assembly quality not quite exact. Hard car to park. Short drivers will have a hard time seeing some gauges. Exit and entry a little tricky due to stylish doors. Shifter too close to 12 volt power connector. Interior is blah compared to stylish exterior.

One of the prettiest cars on the road. Looks great from any angle. The car turns heads, seats 5 adults easily (you can put 4 more in the trunk as well!). I bought the car because it is unique....now they are everywhere!
The whole experience from purchase to dealer maintenence has been pleasant.
This car has the best bang for the buck! It has been compared with the Accord and the Passat....you can blow either of these cars away with the Trep...or you could put them in it's trunk!

Strength:

Fast, sporty, roomy, handles great, good gas mileage.

Weakness:

three sets of tie rods/boots, air conditioning completely out, u-joint repairs, gloss on back window trim is history, trim down side of car fading, power locks are starting to hesitate, dipstick broke (dryrot).

I truely loved my Intrepid when I first bought it, but now three years later I am trying not to hate it. I can't afford to hate it. It's a real goodlooking car. It's fast. It's roomy. It's sporty. The price was pretty good, but the repairs are becoming outrageous.

Model Reviewed: Dodge Intrepid

Strength:

Good Styling and room except for the driver side left leg room. Large trunk and large back seat that you can sit in while you wait for the tow truck to arrive.

Weakness:

The ENGINE FAILURE is obviously the major weakness but the Idler Pulley on the serpentine belt broke into pieces ($400), the driver side power window motor($400), the rear muffler (driven in North Carolina, i.e. no snow or salt) failed my state imspection at 18 months. ($260 that was still only avilable from the Dealer.) None of these repairs were covered under the Warrantee.

Do not buy a Dodge Intrepid, it is unreliable and there appears to be a pattern of engine failures on the 98, 2.7 liter engine. (Two other very similar 98 Intrepid Engine failures are currently posted on this web site.)My well maintained engine(I have the maintenance records) that had 80,000, primarily highway miles, suddenly lost oil and failed. Chrysler/Dodge is not aware of or will admit to this as a problem. (Daimler/Mercedes must be proud of the Quality Auto maker that they have acquired.)
Please post or reply to my Email address if you have a similar problem.

2001 Chevy Impala LS. No comparison, the GM products and the dealer service is far superior. (I also had 95,92,89 and 86 Buick LeSabres.) The Impala LS comes with a reliable 3.8 Liter engine (Same as the LeSabres.)with more power and a proven track record. There is more driver leg room with out the "Dodge cab over" wheel hump that did not allow me to extend my left leg.
