Ride, Looks, Enterior layout.

Weakness:

Paint falling off of Hood and bumpers. brakes and rotors went bad on all for after only 15000 miles.

excellent car, the ride is real nice as long as you purchased the touring suspension. I drove one without the stiffer suspension and what a difference. only problem with car is the paint falls off on the hood and bumbers, thank god my husband has his own auto body shop, its getting a real paint job now. dodge if your listening start putting descent paint on your vehicles !!!!

Strength:

Lots of room for a growing family. More than adequate power. Great looking design should keep us happy for many years to come(if the car lasts).

Weakness:

Poor fit on the door seals all around (the dealer said he hadn't seen this problem before, yet the appointment booked after me was for the same thing).

We needed a family car, and boy does this fit the bill. Three spots for child car seats in the back and a HUGE trunk allow for all the luggage of children and more. It has more than enough power to keep our lead feet happy and also looks great.

Reliable and dependable, roomy, handles very well, good power

Weakness:

Brakes. Not the best I have ever used, but some better than the 94 Concorde I had

(1998 Model) - I enjoy this vehicle. It is a large car, but quick and the gas mileage is just great. I would not trade it for my son in law's Audi.

Strength:

Smooth, comfortable ride. Roomy interior, easy to access controls. Looks great!

Weakness:

Lights do not automatically come on/off in the evening (I really miss that)

(2000 Model) - I've always owned Japanese cars because of their durability. However, I decided to try the Intrepid. I haven't had it long but so far I am very pleased with it! I love to drive it!

Strength:

roomy and comfortable on long trips. Large trunk space, foot room in the back seat

Weakness:

too many repairs required on air conditioning. Back rest of drivers seat is not dependable...brackets broke too easily for age of vehicle and the cost to repair was +$500 (buy a new seat!).

(pre 1997 Model) - I love my vehicle! But I expected it to last longer. By that I mean not having to replace or repair minor things. I have had to repair the air conditioner twice (both major repairs) and the front rack and pinion and the tie-rods. Are these normal repairs?

Strength:

Has power when needed

Weakness:

Thought the engine would last a little longer than it did. Always replacing the brakes and have replaced the tie rods as well.

Very roomy back seat which is a blessing with 2 growing children. Air conditioning works great, when you have it working. Had it fixed the first time under warranty and of course, it died about a month out of warranty the second time. Comfortable drive and it looks nice on the road.

Engine self destruct after 50K miles

9 months driving with plasure, it left me stranded in NJTP, at 3PM, heat index of 101F, with my 2 small childrens. Car had 59K miles, I bought it with 31K. I really enjoyed this car. Never had that trouble with previous Chevy and Ford in the last 20 years. The engine failed without warning. The Dodge said the oil was clear and all liquids to standard. The engine didn't show sign of abuse. The cost to replace the engine was $7,300, which I didn't have. Dodge said they are sorry and I am screw.

Sporty exterior and zippy engine, I like speed, it looks good going down the road.

Weakness:

fuel rail, multiple recalls, spark plug gap/wires, water pump, maintenance is hard to do.

I really liked the handling and styling of this car. Other than becoming a maintenance nightmare, I loved it! The fuel rail recall really bothered me, I have a small child in a carseat and would be unable to get them out in time if a engine fire started. With 89,000 miles on the car I was glad to get rid of it for something more reliable. Don't think I will be buying a Dodge anytime soon. Their quality has really gone down hill. We were lucky and did not have to replace the tranny. I was just afraid that something was going to conk out sooner or later and with 2 carseats and a large extended family I needed something bigger and more reliable. Not sure I would buy another one.

None serious

We ordered this car new in late 1996 because we needed more room than our Saturn offered and didn’t want a minivan. Now at 75K miles I have only good things to say about it. It has great power from the 3.5L engine, spunky handling that saved literally saved our lives once and room to haul two small children and all the detritus that requires.

We ordered ours loaded with everything except leather and the moon roof. The Autostick is fun and the performance suspension sharpened up the handling nicely with little impact on ride comfort. Other than routine maintenance items (tires, brakes, lubricants), the only problems we have encountered was a cut transmission cooler line, the water pump leaking at 65K miles and a continued problem with the C-Pillar moldings.

The car can’t be faulted for the transmission cooler line. Stuff happens.

I was a bit annoyed by the water pump going out so early. The $500 repair bill I thought was a bit steep, but I did have the timing belt and serpentine belt replace at the same time. Note to Chrysler: Don’t start with the water pump and build the rest of the car around it!

The C-Pillar molding on the other hand is obviously a design problem. Ours keeps breaking a small piece off where the molding meets the roof. It was replaced 3 times under warranty, and now that the car is out or warranty, they will just to stay broken for the $385 that it costs to replace them. All the Intrepids of this vintage that I have seen around appear to have the same problem. Fortunately our car is black and the problem is barely noticeable.

I believe that routine maintenance is the key to longevity in a car, and the Intrepid appears to be more sensitive than some to this. Others I know have had more problem than we with their Inrepids, but they don’t stay on the maintenance as we do. Still, one family has more than 165K miles on theirs and has had only one major failure (transmission) and they still love theirs.

In summary, this car looks great, runs better, and offers strong handling. I feel that you 95% of BMW performance at 60% of the price. I would buy another without hesitation.
