I bought my car used with 23,000 miles, and have just topped 61,000 miles. It is a great touring car! Mine is loaded with everything but the sun roof, it practically drives itself. I used it in Denver for 3 years in the snow and ice, and it was the only reason I got to work on many occaisions. I love the auto-stick. The in finity sound system is fabulous, and I had an Alpine CD changer installed. I have driven this car everywhere-no problems. I had a 78 Corvette, and a 87 Toyota Camry, and a Volkswagen Rabbit so I have used cars at both ends of the type spectrum. If I want to drive a 4 door sedan, I would definetly get another Intrepid. I am setting my sights on an RT if this one ever gets traded. I have done regular maintainance and had the fluids changed every 3 thousand miles.

Strength:

Power! roominess, has it all, and I've had no problems whatsoever. Great Gas Mileage, I did 220 Miles on half a tank of gas going at 65-70MPH. My car was clocked from 0-60 in 5 sec flat.

Weakness:

Goodyears that came with the car were bumpy, I replaced them with Michellin Tires and the car is extremely Quiet now, Have not had Tranny Problems. Front cup holder is annoying.

Have taken this car at over 115mph, and it was tight on the road with no shaking whatsoever, I have dressed it up with a Full frontal bra, and tinted windows and I enjoy driving this car, I drive this car 300+ miles every other weekend plus I drive it in the city and its Awesome!

Strength:

3.3L engine (w/ aftermarket computer chip)Looks, interior room, handling, drive like a sports car looks like a family car.

Weakness:

Silver color tends to fade especially on the door molds (had a new paint job and car looks like new) Fixed A/C condensor no more A/C problems

GREAT CAR!!!!! Sports car in disguise. Great ride. Bought car used with 75,000 miles from a corporation. The cars runs better now than when I bought it. Current miles on car 178,000+ (Lots of trips from west to east coast). I drive my car hard an expect alot from it, this car can handle what you throw at it and it's easy to maintain yourself. Just put new 17" Konig Caffine wheels with Pirelli PZero 235/50/17 tires and a highflow exhaust. With new chip no more gas shut-off can go way beyond registered speed. Top speed done so-far top gear at 4 1/2 rpm @ 30mph per rpm=135mph before new set of rims & tires. Thank god for the after marketcomputer chip(price$350.00 Superchips).

Strength:

I would have to say the car is very comfortable to drive. Lots of room, no blind spots. Very smooth running car.

Weakness:

Where should I start? The first day of purchase, the fuel pump decided to go kaput, right on the highway. Had to have it towed from Brantford to Hamilton, $145.00. Repair cost was $400.00. Day 2 didn't get any better! The a/c was blowing very nice warm air, passenger door would not open, glove compartment flew open.. Day 3, tranny slipping (was replaced last year for $1900.00) Day 4, gas tank almost on empty..Day 5, I'm starting to hear some loud clanging sounds from the engine. Hmm, I wonder what that could be? Need I say anymore! It is for sale as we speak..

I am very impressed with the look and style of the vehicle. Very classy looking car.

I had a 1988 Dodge 600, for 8 years without any major problems. The cost was great, but the comfort and the ride is no comparison with the Intrepid.

Model Reviewed: Intrepid R/T

Strength:

Great road handling in all weather (in Canada we get plenty of everything), enough power (242 HP) when you need, long trips (over 10 hours) are a breeze, big size, best value for the money in my opinion.
Great and safe car when you are with family, fun with friends or alone. Autostick useful in certain situations, like driving on two lane mountain roads.

Weakness:

None if you don't have problems (as listed elsewhere on this board).
Has a strange and scary noise first few seconds when you start the engine, looks like somebody forgot to put the oil. Maybe the guys at the dealership know something, they always put too much oil in the car, I've complained a couple of times with no results. Other than these minor? things, only the future will tell.

It is the second Intrepid in the past 4 years. Loved the new 98 model, had to get one with all the options, but only the 2.7 L engine. I had the car for almost 3 years and 70.000 Km, never had any problems. Done nothing except regular maintenance ( oil change + tire rotation ) . But not enough power for such a big (and beautiful) car.
So I traded in for a black R/T, which is a great car loaded with every possible option, had it for 4 months, just 2 minor cuts on two very expensive Michellin tires, not ready to replace them (Dealer asked $370 CAD plus labor and tax each ;-(.
It belongs to the open roads (preferably on the Autobahn :-) So-so on gas if you don't push it, otherwise be ready to visit the gas station quite often.

Gran Prix GTS is more expensive, so I would recommend the R/T or ES, but not the SE model

Strength:

Styling; handling; great acceleration

Weakness:

Noisy, overheats, transmission replaced, brakes replaced constantly, plus the fact that Chrysler denies there has ever been a problem with any of them!!!! This is the biggest problem! Admit it and get back to the drawing board!

I loved my first Intrepid so much that I didn't bother to add up all the money in repairs--and I bought another 94 last year. Big mistake! Since I own two of the same year, I know that the overheating problems are not coincidental. I have had overheating problems from day 1 and was told big engines run hot! You name it, the part has been replaced on both cars and I feel like the biggest sucker in the world. Right now my 3.5 is in the shop for the third time this month because the temp guage went up to HOT. Even if I fix it, I don't trust that I can take it anywhere except around town and I am certain that it will be back in the shop for anothre $800 within two months. I will never buy another even though I like the way they handle and look.

I compare it to our 1987 Toyota Celica which has 187,000 miles on it and still runs great with very little maintenance.

where should I start..how long do you have to read this.....

Front bearings
tie rod ends(inner and outer)
water pump
timing belt
ac belt
timing belt tensioner(dealer only...$100 for a damned pulley)
fuel rail
rotors(x2)
brakes( we wont go there)
alternator(x2)
O2 sensors
egr valve
intake gaskets
serpintine belt
plugs and wires
ac doesnt work
weatherstripping is falling off
instrument panel lights have minds of their own
lights suck
we cant get a descent alignment
tires....yeah a couple of times
now the engine light is on and the mechanics(even dodge) cant find out why....hmmm cant even fix their own pos

Extremely dissapointing....no where near what was expected. I have an 85 Blazer that is more reliable. I would only recommend this car to Dodge employees......if they drove it maybe we could get some of our issues involving recallable matters resolved. At this point in time my mechanic is helping me figure out how to blow it up....we leave the keys in it at the garage in the hopes that someone will steal it.....no one is that desperate! Maintenance...dont go there....after all of the repairs that have been done.....i am under the hood at least 4 times a month......My wifes dream has been a nightmare.

Roomy, large trunk space, wide opening doors. The A/C blows ice cold.

Weakness:

Well I am still waiting for a trunk lid you can not find them anywhere the dealer says that they are on back order(what does that tell you). I need a bumper cover recovered 3 wrong parts before they got it right. I owned dodges before and taken them to the dealer for repairs ( you would think that the mechanics were high quality technicians) and told me that I need a distributor and cam sensor and told me that it is $1200 to repair it.So I had my husband who soldered a wire and repaired the problem. My husband owns a repair shop so I am lucky in that department. But all those customers he has that come in with Intrepid Trans problem are not lucky. I could pay my mortgage for a year with those people who come in with problems). My 2.7 has very poor acceleration my 1993 Ford Mustang 4-cylinder 2.3 has better acceleration with the air on in 100 degree weather. Replaced parts I think that we should take stock in the dealer. As for the air conditioning I have no complaints on that I actually freeze in the car because it blows ice cold. As for the shifter problem you need to be a heavy weight to put it in drive. When you see the commercial on TV to use Mopar replacement parts I find after market last longer. I am not exactly short but to see out of the back window when I am parking I think that I could use a booster seat. I had a couple scratches in the car so I took it to Chrysler to see if they could paint it and they could not match the color because the color on my car was an irregular mix. I had one incident the the driver's side door I went to get gas and when I was done I got back in the car and forgot something so I tries to open the door and it wouldn't open so I crawled out the passenger side door to go around and I am standing there pulling on the door in the middle of a down poor and when the door finally budged and opened the whole door panel fell off and was hanging there by the window wires. Next time I think I will tell my husband to buy me a Yugo I think that car is better quality.

There is one thing that I can say for this car it is an attractinf looking car and is very stylish.
