Strength:
Good value for the money, Cheap on gas better interior room than most rivals.
Weakness:
Fit and finnish compared to japanese or european brands (unidentified squeaking noise in back seat). Aside from a squeking noise from somewhere in the back seat, it seems that this is a well made car. I got a lease return with over14,00kms. on it and it still runs like new. According to the dealer, they seem to have worked out all of those 7 recalls from the 200/2001 models Similar Products Used: ''89 Toyota Corolla, ''83 Mazda GLC, ''96 Dodge Neon |

Strength:
Pretty much everything. Ford''s special vehicles team did a bang up job. Looks, handling, sound, feel, all sorts of great little additions like an automatic fade between tracks and stations when you are flipping through a CD or stations, and slow dimming lights, just everything. Gas mileage is good if you arent messing around, but it is hard not to.
Weakness:
If you are looking to be really putting some speed the HP isnt there. Its pretty dang zippy as it is and my bro has a suby WRX with the turbos and stuff and the SVT was actually not that bad against it all things considered. but back to the topic. For 4 grand extra you can have (jackson racing I think) a supercharger thrown in that bumps it up to about 250 hp...so its easily fixable if you are going to b spending the money to mod it anyways. Great car! My other car is a pretty beefy 65 mustang and this thing...Its a 6 speed gear box and I got it to 60 in second gear. leather interior, heated seats, sun roof, a 6 foot 2 person completely comfortable in front and back, looks great with the SVT body kit, exhaust isnt import-like I call it "wheat", the 17 inch wheels and the couple inch slam that comes built in with the macphereson struts and racing suspension they put into it makes cornering insane, 170 hp out of a 121 cubib inch 4 banger impressive low end torque curve...everything. Strength:
Body style and design are attractive. Responsive engine and steering.
Weakness:
Front brakes and rotors wear too quickly. A/C gets dusty smell (pulling partial air supply from small vents down near floor mats). Purchased a new Ford Focus in the summer of 2000. Outward body style is attractive and there are a number of appealing design features. The engine and steering both feel strong. However, there are a couple of improvements that need to be done. The a/c air supply gets a street dust smell as if part of the air supply is being drawn from down low near the floor mats. The front brakes began squeeking at about 3000 miles. Also, the front brake pads and rotors appear to wear much too quickly. Interior: The front seats recline to only about 45 degrees but should go back almost all the way. This makes resting or sleeping in the car during long drives a challenge. Exterior: Trunk latch doesn''t always close on first try. Similar Products Used: Ford Escort and Festiva |

ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!!
Weakness:
THE ENTIRE CAR!!! IT''S A ROYAL PAIN IN THE ASS! I have never in my life been as disastified with anything as I am with my Focus. It''s been nothing but problems since the day I bought it. I bought the car with the intentions that it would help me through college, now I just pray that it makes it through next week...Where do I even begin?! My front tires went completely bald after 6000 miles, and the dealership (Miller Brothers Ford) told me that it was lack of rotation! You don''t even rotate tires till 6000 miles!! Then, my brakes failed causing me to have an accident and then skid into an intersection, almost being killed. When I returned to the dealership, they assured me that the brakes were working normally. Hmm, they ended up replacing them because of one of the many recalls, well that''s what they told me anyway. I came to find out when I had to take the brakes in again for replacement of pads and rotors, that the brakes had never been replaced and not only that, but the pads were wrong for the car! My radio continuely cuts off and my trunk won''t always close, but I am assured by the dealership that these things are normal also! Interesting. My most recent problem, late last night I went to start my focus and the key wouldn''t go into the ignition properly and wouldn''t turn at all!!! I had to have the car towed to a dealership (Apple Ford) where the entire ignition had to be replaced!! THIS CAR SUCKS!! It is the biggest mistake of my life and I tell everyone never to buy a ford!!! You''ll regret it! Similar Products Used: Chevy Cavalier (so much more satisfied..at least it ran!!) Toyota Corolla (the car is a 1994 and still running like the day we got it, unlike my year old Ford Focus) |

Strength:
I love the solid, "European" feel to the car, the tight handling and smoothness on the open road. I can take it up to the rev limiter (108mph or so) and never does the car feel skittish. That alone is a testament to the engineering put into this car (although not in all areas). The interior is unique and well styled, the lever-action truck lid is appreciated, and the soft-touch controls are a nice touch. The sound system is great, as are the seats. The overall design is fresh, not "cookie-cutter" like all the V-6 equipped cars I was also considering. Between the style and the color, my car is a love-it-or-hate-it vehicle. I love it. However, there are trade-offs for these fine engineering and design feats, as noted below:o
Weakness:
I''m getting that smell in the A/C, enough for the kids to mention. The dealer who services my car (not Vista) said they smelled nothing; it smelled normal. Normal for a swamp? Normal for Ford? I hate corporate representatives lying to my face. Also, I get fresh vent air that''s about 10 degrees warmer than the outside air when the control is set to cool. What''s up with that? No heat insulation around the plenum? Heat transfer to the heater core? The dealer said all was "within design specs". Hmm... My gas mileage sucks, 25 mpg at best, and I know it''s not just my driving style. I know Ford either lied on their EPA ratings or submitted doctored test cars that were tweaked for mileage. Shame on Ford. I also felt the sting of the bait-and-switch with the Extra Care Warrantee. I''m certain I was promised a free rental car anytime I brought my car in for service, not just overnight repairs. I had rattles in both rear door panels that were fixed by the dealer with foam tape. Let''s see how long that lasts. My passenger''s power window stopped working. Window mechanism replaced by dealer. "Check Engine" light came on between 2000 and 3000 miles. Called dealer, they s My girlfriend needed a car, so we went shopping. Being a car nut, I was surprised how out of touch I was with the current crop of small cars. Out here, people think their Hondas and Toyotas are made of gold, so we started looking at used Focuses (Foci?). We were impressed. Within a week of her purchase, I was so knocked out with its functionality, ease of entry/exit, and ride quality; that I decided to get one. Since time wasn''t a factor, I scoured the web and gathered as much info I could before buying. It''s probably a good thing I didn''t find this site, for I might have been turned off to the Focus. (My heart goes out to all those 2000 Focus owners, although my girlfriend''s 2000 SE has yet to give us trouble.) Interest rates were great, and I discovered the 2001-only Jackpot Gold color. I eventually found two at one dealer(!), and made the 3 hour trek up to Oxnard. I wasn''t disappointed. I can''t say enough good things about Vista Ford. We struck such a good deal, the paint and leather protection, extended Ford warrantee, and window tint barely brought the price back up to MSRP. In addition, the 2.9% interest rate means I''ll only pay 1200 bucks or so in interest over the length of the loan. The ZTS I chose was loaded, except for the Advance-Trac system (not much need here) and sunroof (too much loss of headroom). The leather seats are a bit wider, thus more luxurious. The downside is the smooth texture and my habit of cornering hard. As the kids say, "The seats are slidey". In little time, I added a few low-buck parts, like a K+N filter, underdrive pulley, and strut bar. The filter and pulley return the power lost to the A/C; shut off the A/C and you have that much more power. The strut bar gives even more of a solid feel. I highly recommend them, although bars that fit stock airboxes are hard to find. I installed Euro taillights, xenon headlamps and a brushed steel exhaust tip. No big wings, 18" wheels, or "race team" names though; keeping it subtle and classy. Maybe I''ll add the Jackson supercharger when the warrantee runs out. I''m finding no problem with the paint (paint protection?); nor leaks, blowouts, stalling, vibration, bad brakes, etc that many others have experienced. I have had a few little problems, but thankfully no heartache. None as of yet I love this car it drives alot like my VW Beetle did. It also is a great value for the money you can not beat the price. I paid $15270 and got leather,ABS,6-disk CD changer, power moonroof, automatic,Fog lamps, power windows, and lots more. This car is one of the best compact cars on the road today. And It made CAR AND DRIVERS TOP TEN BEST with the BMW''S and BENZ,AUDI and ect for 2002. I am sorry for the people who got the first year lemons my 2002 is flawless. You can get a lemon with any car in the first year. My sister inlaw got a 2002 nissan ALTMA and Paid $28,000 for the can drove it for two weeks and the car spent 4 weeks in the shop the Automatic Transmition went out on the car and nissan had no parts in stock the car was to new they said and they did not have any parts for it. They put in a new Automatic Trans in the car no small job and the car was new. No matter what brand you buy you will chance in the first year. Buy this car and you will love the european handling ford did there home work with the cars suspension and it paid off. Ford europe did a great job with the Focus and is shows in the VW styleing queus throught the car. Good JOB. Weak Low End Torque. But its a small 2.0 Single Cam. (Non Zetec) Beutiful and different. Very elegant looking in Fort Knox Gold. Fast and very good quality. Adorable front end and a kick ass stereo system. A/C is very cold and I like it a lot. Handles very well and wastes very little gas. I recommend that people get 2002 Ford Focuses. Weakness:
Everything...I will NEVER recommend this car to anyone. I HATE THIS CAR!!! The Focus was my first new car. I was so happy when I found it and, now, I would do anything to get rid of it. First, the number of recalls on this vehicle is nothing short of absurd. Just this weekend my car had to be towed because gasoline was pouring, and I mean POURING, out of my car. When the service guy asked what the problem was, my answer was, "I own a Ford Focus. That''s my problem!!!" Also while at the dealer''s, I saw three couples looking at the Focus and I just wanted to run up to them and tell them not to do it! I have also had the gas gauge problem, the brake problem, etc. My rear driver''s side window also decided to go down and not go back up. I no longer look forward to driving anywhere because I am always wondering what the next problem is going to be. It''s hard being a full time college student who can''t get rid of a piece of crap for a honestly reliable car. I will definitely not be buying a Ford again. I also recommend that all other disgruntled owners call the Ford Motor Company...maybe we could be given some type of reimbursement...a new car would be nice! |
