Strength:
good looking car, fairly fast, fun to drive when it runs.
Weakness:
parts are hard to find and are expensive. diagnostics are very hard to come by. I continue to bang my head against the wall for the same problem. I'm really frustrated with ford in general. $#!*@$* At first we (my wife and I) really like the car but lately it has been nothing but problems. I need help!!!!! it will start up and run as long as you have your foot on the gas, but as soon as you take your foot off the gas it stalls. I've replaced the fuel filter, plugs and wires, thermostat, and oxygen sensor and the problem still continues. The only pattern I can see is that it seems to be worse when the temp. is above 75 degrees.....I'm open to suggestions. Ford Probe SE
Strength:
Looks sporty
Weakness:
Not much speed with the 4 cylinder I have had this car for more than one year and have had zero problems with it. The car is in fantastic shape and looks good for its age. I learned to drive manual shift with this car and it was relitively easy to learn with. The car is very compact, making driving precise and parking easy. Similar Products Used: I used to drive an '89 Dodge Grand Caravan and a '92 Ford Tempo, so, the Probe is most certainly an upgrade. But to be honest, I would rather have a Prelude or Integra from the same year. |

Good acceleration, Had speedometer rapper all the way around and back to 15mph and the tach was only at 3000, doesnt red until 6000. no shake or squeals. SMOKES THE HONDAS!!!
Weakness:
Dont care for the seats or low selection of performance parts. Bought it with 100,000 on it and all it really needed if anything at all was brakes. I gave it a transmission service and a coolant flush. A few months after I bought the original owners came through my work and saw it. They couldnt believe it was their old car because all the stuff I had done to it ( 5% tint, 16inch KMC racing rims, lights, foglights, and detalied extremely good.) I found out they just used it for a tow vehicle behind their RV. Even better though, They towed it on all four wheels for around 70,000 so the car really only has 30,000 on the engine. Very reliable no problems with it yet . Spendy but matainable. Verry peppy.... Similar Products Used: Fastest car I have ever had except for my 1972 mach 1 mustang (god rest its soul)!! |

*paint I paid $10K for mine. Came with chipped paint. I'd have to say that was the only downside to the car. Everything is fine. Fun to drive. With a few inexpensive mods, it becomes a chic magnet. Definitely worth the money. Now, only if it had more horses under the hood . . . Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
runs smoothly, terrific gas mileage, roomy, fun, fast, sporty, dependable, solid
Weakness:
mechanics' knowledge of the car, I know more than they do I bought my 2.2L turbo Probe GT as a program car with 12,500 miles in January 93. It's been a solid, dependable car since the day I bought it. The turbo is still strong, I've had no transmission problems and I've never had to put a clutch in it. I've replaced a timing belt ($100), spark-plug wires, blower motor resistor for the AC ($40) and have replaced a pretty costly little insulated exhaust pipe ($100+), fixed a small hole in the muffler and a heat shield for the exhaust has been removed. Had a minor fiasco at about 100,000 with a dealership that broke the bolts when replacing my manifold gasket and had to redrill the bolt-holes ($700+), I put my foot down, refused to pay for it and my warranty covered it. The car now has 170,000+ miles and I have NO intentions of getting rid of it. It's FWD handles much better than most of the Mustangs I've driven, and she still gets about 28 miles per gallon. The paint is still in great condition other than the usual chips that a 9-year-old car is going to have. Similar Products Used: Mustang 4 cyl, 6 cyl and GT (88-2000) |

Strength:
good power. handles nice. Very sporty looking and feeling
Weakness:
Torque steer. It wants to follow every groove in the road. Lifter noise- I really like my Probe and recommend it highly if you don't have big bucks to buy something more refined. It's faster off the line than many V-8's. I've surprized a lot of people with it's power, especially spinning the tires on the 1-2 shift. If the truth be known, though, I'd rather have a mustang cobra. Similar Products Used: None |
