Strength:

Looks great, fairly quick, handles great, reliable, good trunk space, sporty cockpit. Construction seems solid, everything still tight, no leaks, all accessories (incl PW, PL, A/C, r.defr, etc) still work fine, good paint, reasonable gas mileage.

Weakness:

Tiny back seat, tight cockpit, could use a tad more power, steep 1st gear is a bit of a pain, poor speakers.

I've had my '93 GT 4-sp for 4 years. Other than the couple times in the shop for valve cover gaskets, it's been an excellent car. Great as a 1 or 2 person car only; think twice if you have kids (though mine still love to cram into the back seat and go for a ride).

Strength:

It has good power off the start. Can run with 4.0 Jeep Truck that i draged a half mile. I have had it up to about 125 on the highway. Very sporty looking. I wash and wax it every week and keep it garaged.

Weakness:

Front and struts, strut boot, and tires. the air condition went out the first summer i had it 104000.

The Best Car I Ever Have Ever Had. I have had some problems with it but it is running great with 146000 miles. I learned fast that it was 10 times cheaper to do the maintainace myself. And all the parts are expensive, but if maintained last. when i picked it out i had my choice of 2 probes. One being a white GT with auto and tinted windows all power windows and lock and both headlights down. And the other (the one i got) a black GL, manual with a sunroof and nothing power with the passanger side headlight up. but i love the stick shift. So i got it and one of my best friends got the other. since the auto trans in the GT went out 2 times and he has moved on to another car (96 taurus SHO). The point is the stick shift is the way to go. Since i have had it i have gave it a blue pin strip with blue neon lights inside, blue gas, brake, and cluch pedals, blue lug nuts and blue valve stem covers. It is very slick looking all in fords blue.

Strength:

It's very quick, corners awesome, looks really good (girls like it), sounds very mean and can back it up with 118hp stock + some upgrades.

Weakness:

Since I've had it the only problem has been the exhaust it had a few leaks when I got it so I replaced it all. So mechanically I've only put $120 into it in about 6 months. And the windows rattle a little when there like half way down.

I love my probe. It looks really great, and runs really good, but it could use a little more room in the back seat. I got the car after owning a 1988 oldsmobile delta 88, which was also a great car but I had to get something a little sporty. The car is faster than most others around town. And it gets about 34 miles to the gallon on the highway. and it has a whole lot of cargo space for a lot of bass. I'd definately buy it again, and I'd recomend it to anyone who wants a very low priced great car and doesn't need a big back seat.

Similar Products Used:

The only thing I can compare my probe to is an 88 delta 88. and the probe is quicker, more responsive, and looks way better. But it can't hold 8 people like the delta.

Strength:

It gets me to point a-b.
Very attractive to cops.
Pretty car and sometimes fast on flat land.

Weakness:

Need good tires to drive this car.
4c can't pass anyone on the highway.
Not good for anythang but looking good.
Parts are too dern exspensive.

I thank that the 93 ford probe is ok,but I have like little problems with the axele and front wheel drive sometimes. Uses alot of oil and burns gas from state to state. No major problems. I love my car but ready to trade it in for something new and faster. If it is not a V8 it's not fast enough.
I thank that if I keep it. I'll paint it black. It's red and dull looking. I go where I have to go with it, but I'm tired of this car. Parts are to expensive for me.

Strength:

I was actually on my way to look at another probe and i happend to see this one. And i ended up with a dream!

Weakness:

The worst quality of probes is definitly the paint job. I had paid $535 dollars to get to repainted. Because the Ford dealerships are not very nice people to try and deal with! Well at least the one in Valdosta!

Overall if you keep any car maintenanced it can run forever! But i would definitly recommend a Ford Probe! Because i have had no major problems other than the paint! The body style is real sharp. Gets very good pick up! Excellent gas mileage! Runs smoothly. It is an awesome car! I really love my car! And i plan on keeping it for 2 more years or longer!

Strength:

This car has a lot of torque. Very powerful both off the line and in the 1/4 mile. It can stand up to any sports cars from its own class with no problem. Great interior options. Nice exterior lines and general body.
The GT model with Turbo really moves and gets your juices revving while you rev your engine.

Weakness:

GAS! The car drinks a lot of gas. Very bad/low fuel consumption. The electrical system has failed a few times. Some trouble with cold winter stars.

Highly recommended! I bought it for a good price. It's a great car for a teen-ager's first car. Not much trouble with the engine, if taken care of properly. Lots of muscle and power. It'll tear-up the road with its 190 torque @ 3500 RPM and 145 HP @ 4300 RPM. It's a great car and a great buy.

Strength:

Performance, handling, style, reliability/cargo-hauling capacity/mileage (for being a sports car)

Weakness:

Costly parts and repairs, dealer service customer-care is hit-and-miss. In order to make it light, Ford/Mazda sacrificed some solidity. Over decent roads, a good car. Over the rutted roads of the Midwest, can shake itself loose and develop rattles. Spark plug cables seem to die every 40000mi. Replaced with heavy-duty aftermarket cables and Bosch +4 Platinum plugs and never had a problem again.

I bought my Electric Red (burgundy) Probe when my previous car died from a broken timing belt (in other words, in a hurry). Negotiated a good price at the dealership who gave me free oil changes for life and outstanding service. Navy duty took me elsewhere, and I discovered that not all Ford service departments are created equal. In moving, I also realized: this car can haul a TON of stuff with the rear seats down. Skis will fit nicely with the with the hatch almost completely closed.

Performance/handling - The car is a light car that doesn't need a big brutish motor to go fast; its small, turbine-smooth 2.5L (or 151 cubic inch) motor is quiet, rev-happy and fairly easy to upgrade. I've been able to ambush the occasional Mustang GT caught napping at the light and keep up with cars costing twice as much or having twice as much motor. On winding roads, the car tracks like it's on RAILS and is very forgiving. Again, the excellent handling allowed me to keep up with much higher-performance (and higher-cost) vehicles on the twisties. Unfortunately, the light weight also translates into rattles over rough, frost-heaved roads after years of use (mine was drum-tight until I got to Chicago).

Style - Not love at first sight (I wanted a VW Corrado but couldn't swing it) but it definitely grows on you once you wash it a few times and notice some of the subtle lines and curves you might miss at first glance. For people who need constant look-at-me levels of attention, look elsewhere. For those who like understated good taste, this is it. Even after it was discontinued (for SHAME, Ford!) it got compliments on the looks by car fanatics and non-fanatics alike. By far the best layout of dash, HVAC and radio controls I've EVER seen in a car I've driven; huge glovebox, plenty of pockets and cubbies to stow maps and other things. Rear footwells perfect for stowing stuff out of sight with the front seats reclined just a bit.

Reliability - If maintained according to the factory recommendations, the car is bullet-proof, after all, it's Mazda mechanicals. This car went from Virginia Beach, to Orlando, San Diego, Seattle, Spokane, Salt Lake City, Denver, Kansas City, Chicago, Orlando and back to Chicago. Never missed a beat. In West Texas, I saw for myself: the car WILL peg its speedometer with no drama. Even in the coldest Chicago winter, it started on the first try. Maintenance is fairly reasonable, just don't let the dealer service department give you "their" recommended service. Hand them a copy of the owner's manual and tell them that's what you want, nothing more, nothing less. Clutch held up until 125,000mi, O2 sensors until about the same. Car finally died when some high-schooler T-boned it while changing lanes and talking on the cell phone. Retired with full honors; it earned them. I may replace it with another Probe GT . . .

Strength:

Still a sleak design, very sporty looking, girls actually DO check the car out and like it, fast V6, plenty of trunk space, and great handling.

Weakness:

The engine is geared so low that highway speeds force you to keep the rpm's up a bit so the car tends to hold itself back. There are a few aftermarket goodies for this car, such as body kits and some really cool wings, but for the most part can't be modded nearly as much as most small imports. What the GT has in handling capability had to be compromised in the ride somewhat, causing a slightly bumpy daily driver. This car was made for street and off roading definitely isn't in it's vocabulary. Mine came with sport tires that are no good in the snow. Also my clutch went as soon as I bought it with 78,000 miles on it. It had to be replaced and was a HUGE pain in the ass because of the front wheel drive setup. The parking brake also sticks as it does on every Probe ever produced I think...

I only gave the car a 4 star rating because of all the problems that some people report having from their probes. The car WILL develop rattles and the odds are you WILL have some kind of problem, either from the clutch or with the E brake sticking. Still, it's a fast and fun car to drive and one that I enjoy a lot.
