Strength:

looks sooooo nice!!
leather seats and moon roof make it well worth the fun rides
very very nice turns
quick pick up

Weakness:

rattle rattle
very expensive parts
eats tires!!!

this is my first car and trust me it gets some look. I compare this to an eclipse because of the similar style of the body this car holds it is own up with the space to that of the eclipse yet they both share their lack of the back seat. A very nice car though

Strength:

well the car is definately a looker...i fell in love with the car even before i got it.

Weakness:

oh my goodness, where do i even start? i think everything that could possible go wrong with this car did. it seemed like every other month my car was in the shop, and each time it was at LEAST $1,000 to fix. after a couple months, we had paid double in repairs that was had paid for the car to begin with. not only did the car have internal problems, the paint on the hood was terrible! it chips like crazy!

despite all the many problems, i completely loved the car, but i think it had a lot to do with the fact that it was my first car and the memories it gave me far outweigh all the problems. but if i had to actually pay to repairs (my dad always fixed it for me) i would have gotten rid of the death machine a long time ago. take my advice, please, and don't put yourself in the aweful situation of buying a probe...no matter how good it looks and how much you want it. It will pay off (literally) in the long run.

Strength:

-quick for a 4 cyl.
-great brakes
-looks awsome
-not many around
-25+ miles to the gallon
good speed and accel up to 100mph(barely moves after that)

Weakness:

that horible low idle speed, shakes at stops(red lights, stop signs, park)
Not as fast as most of the other cars out there
check your engine light comes on all the time for like no reason.
its a FORD( Fix Or Repair Daily) or atleast semi monthly.

Ive just recently purchased it but its been in the shop 3 times already. basically for the same thing. at the moment the check your engine light is on and for no particular reason.

it runs great starts up fast on cold early mornings. is quick for a 4 cyl.

not too great if you have to cram more then 3 people in the car.

looks
pretty quick for just a little base model 4 cyl.
fun to drive

Weakness:

PRICE OF REPAIRS

This is a great little sports car...if you are lucky and can afford it. The luck comes in taht you had better hope nothing goes wrong with it cause if something does then it'll cost you an arm and a leg to get the thing fixed. Especially if you have the base or SE models cause they have a mazda engine in it...I've had mine for 9 months and although it's a great car I've had to pay nearly 1000 for repairs. A couple weeks after I got it I had that idleing problem that others have, where when you start the car it won't go unless you give it gas and then once it's running you can't let the RPM's fall under 1000 or it'd stall. I had to have the fuel air switch replaced...a good $500 job...then just lately my exhaust went out. That costs me 150 right now for just the resonator section of the exhaust, with the other sections starting to wear out...so I'll have to replace those soon enough, adding another 150 to the job.

but like I said, if you get lucky and can afford those repair costs this is a great looking and fun car to drive...I'd highly recommend you to get the GT model, not the base or SE just to save a few bucks like I did...the added horsepower and less expensive repairs make it much worth it.

Exterior appearance, excellent handling, easy and fun to drive

Weakness:

Repairs, repairs, repairs

Absolutely fell in love when i saw it on the lot. I wasn't even looking to purchase a car. Mine is the light seafoam green, and after driving past it for two days i decided to take a look, what luck it was an automatic and after taking it for a test drive i knew i had to have it. It had 33,000 miles on it and for $10,500 i thought that was a great price.
My first problem happened about a week after i got it, bad spark plugs. lets see, then new brakes, then spark plugs again, then new brakes. after reading some of these reviews i guess the whole idling problem is pretty common with these cars, if the rpms dropped under 1000 car would stall at every single light, stop sign or while doing a slow turn. I'd have to say that its the most major problem that i've had, and also cost me over $1500.00. Ford Quality Care technicians? couldn't diagnose the problem. Its 6 years old now and i still love the way it looks and always get compliments on the color. Even though just a 4cyl, its a pretty powerful car. Anyone interested in a probe, i would definitely recommend buying one, just make sure you have a good friend who is a mechanic, one who won't rip you off and can get you a discount on the expensive parts.

Strength:

Excellent on gas, 2.2L just fast enough to beat plenty of cars and trucks off the line (especially Camero's) Over 128000 miles and still running great, lots of trunk space (boxed 2 12's)....handling great, basically a snow plow when needed (with new tires of course) and a smooth ride

Weakness:

Cheap paint, a little shakey around 70-80...fine from 85 and up????Difficult to work on underneath (axcess oil pan, amoung other things)Tires, brakes, tranny expensive to fix, no backseat room

This car has been nothing but fun and great to me. It seems a little outrageous to pay 2800.00 for a 89LX but I feel in love with it and the lady I bought it from had totally kept up. These cars are great if kept up and maintained. My 89 Camero was a piece a #$@%, I dropped over 3.8g's in that car and kept it for my Ex (the #$%@% is gone as so is the car) I've only dropped a little over a grand and a half for some added features...Pioneer system (the head 350.00 new speakers 200.00 and 2 12's boxed and 2 sets fog lights and some turbo. For anyone buying a probe...go for it!!!!!!! Just keep it maintained.

-runs great for a long time
- airbags

Weakness:

-hard to work on
-the parts are expensive
-headlights may get stuck up or down
-may have problem with automatic moving radio attenna
-not much room in the back seats

well, my probe is my first car and so far im pretty pleased with it, the only real problem I have had is a problem with the distributer which caused the car to stall when stopping, I replaced the distributer and everything seems to be working fine. As far as looks go it is a great looking sporty car and it handles great. As far as performance dont expect much speed from the 2.0 4 banngers although they are fuel efficient. If you are looking into something faster go with the 2.5 GT but if your looking into saving money on fuel go with the SE or base model. My motor has over 100,000 miles on it and it still runs great and it is a dependible car. Dont listen to people who say probes are POS, just because their probes are crap because they treat them that way dosen't mean that all probes are crap, because the majority of the people I talk to are very pleased with it. I would highly recomend buying a probe because they are one of the best looking and most fun cars to drive.

Strength:

-Pretty Strong Acceleration
-Strong Transmission (So Far)
-Price I paid for it with 62,000 miles

Weakness:

-Exhaust Rusted and Fell Off
-Oil Leak
-CV Axles are shot
-New brake pads and rotors

$1500 for a car with 62,000 miles on it is a steal anyway I look at it. I never thought I would buy a Ford, but it is a pretty good car. However, my next car is going to have to be a new Trans Am.

This car isn't really all that fast. I tried racing an Eagle Talon ESI Turbo and I stuck with it all the way. At least until about third gear and then my car started to fade. It performs a lot better now that I put Ram Air in it though.

Strength:

The engine is excellent, the 5 speed transmission is very precise, the clutch is perfect and the steering is dead on. The interior is well thought out I think and all the interior bits are pretty well made. The switches, the exhaust note, that engine is sweet and that manual transmission is very nice.

Weakness:

The exhaust - I replaced mine three times from 1994 to 1999, tires - tires -tires are tremendously expensive. Parts, in general, for the Probe are expensive - Ford blames it on Mazda - I blame it on Ford. Also, if you buy one of these be sure to change that timing belt every 60k miles and be sure to have your timing belt tensioners checked. It will save you an engine! Oh, another weakness. . .the name! Come on Ford, Probe???

I owned this car from 1994 to 1999 and had very good luck with it. I put 60,000 miles on it and enjoyed every last mile. I think the pre-1993 generation was nasty looking and nasty behaving. The pre-1993's had a lot of build quality issues, don't buy one of those. Maintenace is on the pricey side, such as tires, exhausts, plug wires ($300!!!), etc. Keep that in mind. It's a fussy car somedays, but a hell of a lot of fun for the money. You won't get anything as far as trade value of course so don't put too much into it and have fun. Pity it only has 164hp, if it had 200hp, ohh baby. All in all it was a fun car and pretty reliable for a Ford I thought. These days (2001) you have less options if you want a FWD "sporty" car, maybe an Eclipse, Prelude, Celica or yikes a Miata? Cheers and happy motoring!
