Strength:

Excellent handling, power, comfort

Weakness:

It loves gas. Cops like it a lot, too. That's it.

I bought my Probe in '97 for $8000 with 30,000 miles. I drove it over three years to over 140,000 miles with no major problems. Contrary to rumors that they aren't very safe in wrecks, I hit a Grand Am at 70 mph and wasn't even hurt at all. Didn't hurt the car badly, either. Just cosmetic, no frame or structural damage. I drove it for two years afterwaards after having it fixed. I would HIGHLY reccommend these cars, and I want to find another one someday after I get married and can afford a nice one.

Strength:

Awesome handling, great gas mileage, chic magnet
rides very smooth, looks great inside and out
has plenty of room for you and a friend, great car to drive
awesome factory sound system, made for a great system
otherwise very quiet car

Weakness:

gets up and goes but needs just a little more power. the 4 cylinder was pretty good and the v6 is great, but it lacks horses. very expensive to fix, dealers laugh when i ask if they can find me a part, pretty rare and the resale value isn't very good at all. they say they fold up in a wreck but what i've seen they don't. hatchback hydraulics go out quick
i think with a little more power these cars could have been really popular

I got my 94 for 5500 and i liked it so much i bought me another one which is a 97 GT. both are awesome cars, i've had the 94 for a year and the 97 for 2 mos. i've had a great time fixing them up and making them as sweet as i can. i have had hardly any trouble with them. i replaced a sensor on the 94 @ 80000 miles. People wonder why they quit making them and i wish they wouldn't have because i wished i could get even another one but they took them out because they kept on making the mustang, which the probe was supposed to replace in the late 80's because of a scare on gas prices. but since gas didn't get as expensive as it was supposed to the mustang was still manufactured and so there was no reason for it to be made anymore. i would still like to get a 97 GTS, which was a little hotter model the last year it was made. i'm very satisfied with both of these cars. I think it's a very good first car for those who want to own sports cars. i'm 17 and have driven some other sports cars and i think that this car ought to be ranked with other sports cars. i think anyone who likes small medium sized sports cars ought to have owned at least one probe.

Strength:

This car has great gas mileage (25-30 mi/gal). It corners great and rides very smooth. Nice pretty phat for an older car. Sunroof is a nice touch. Pretty quick for a 4 cylinder.

Weakness:

Problems that I've had with it: Timing belt, Alternator, Power window, Starter, and Seat Belts. Seems like a lot of problems, but with the way I drive, its deserved. If this car is treated right, It'll do the job just fine.

I paid $2000 for it. That is one hell of a deal. Owner sold it cheap because he had bought a brand new car. I really lucked out with this one. For anyone who can't afford a brand new car, this is quite a nice alternative. A decent buy.

This car looks so hot. I love it. It is very fun too drive. It has a good pick up, and is fast. I just love the shape of this car. Lookes great from inside too. Cool power seats. Sporty looking headlights and fog lights. It has great handeling too. Nice and comfortable from inside. It has a nice cd player in it too. good speakers. Great performance. It does pick up the chicks too.

Weakness:

Yes every car has it's weakness. I hate the fact that a lot of things in the car are made from plastic. It feels like some parts in the car are about to fall of. And on rough roads it makes some squeeky noises. That's all I can say that is negative about this car

This car is great. All my friends like it and the girls like it a lot too. The funny thing is that I'm 17 and I'm not rich. I bought the car with credit, but everybody think I'm rich cuzz my car look that good. I have the car only for about 2 months, and had no problems at all. I would recomend the 1994 Ford Probe Gt to anyone that is looking for a hot and sporty car with great performance. The car is best for not more than two people. Enjoy your ride.

Strength:

this motor revs like no other v-6 on the market...mazda's lightweight yet stong two piece block is an engineering marvel. handling is unmatched excluding high price exotics. will out accellerate 240sx,integra gsr, civic Si. this car only rated at 164hp but has 160 ft. lbs of torque. unlike honda products the mazda motor has more available power throughout the power band. check the numbers & timeslips almost identical to a 96' mustang gt in the 1/4 mile.

Weakness:

1996 & 1997 model years are restricted to mods because of obdII. after market support is weak..although many high quality products are available no one to date has been able to document any positive hp or torque gains for 96' & 97' models.if ford would have used the j-spec motor(195hp) honda, and mitstubishi would of had thier hands full in the states.

i paid 13.999 for the car with 12,000k on the tach. great value...

i love this car. can their be anything better?? well ya, but only for 1 million on say a McLaren F1 or a 150,000 ferrari. so whats good, the power is good man. i got mine after 120,000 miles and it was from my mommy. my dad is a real nut when it comes to maintainence so i know that its was taken car of. Well i guess it had to be timing. When my parents handed me the keys, well i took my 2 weeks vacation from work just to drive it as much as possible. i washed it every 4 days and cleaned it out every 2. that is no more but i still love it. well about timing, the first thing a teen wants to do is to see how fast his new car will go. Well u have some people who are in their right mind and stop after say 110 and say, thats great, well im one of the crazy few then. i took it to 140 and alittle past that when i went down the next hill with the windows down:) the air gets pretty violent and sounds as only air passing at 140 would! about 2 days later their was anit freeze all over the garage floor, i had blown a hole in my water pump the size of mount everest. that was about 350 to replace. then the next thing to go was this ignition module. that is one expensive peice of crap.(505 after install costs) the part alone was like 400. thats the only bad thing, around here the only thing to do is to cruz people, so thats where i can be found, on broadway almost every nite ,mostly on the weekends though. if u live around CB or omaha find me and lets talk perfomance, mines the black probe gt(94) with out the spoiler( i like it without the factory spoiler). Now though i have a new problem, to some a problem to others its cool, my exhaust pipe is severed fromt he muffler.....so that means but one thing......a straight pipe on a v-6 probe, their isnt anything much nicer sounding, its loud and perty. I dont really have anything against rice racers but i got a ticket cause this pimp civic cut my ass off cuz he saw the cops i didnt, so i passed him and fliped him the bird and got a ticket(48 in 35). But soon my car will be the pimp sleeper. It will mostly look stock, only new wheels(maybe) and big borla exhaust, those will be the only other exterior accsessories defining my car from a stock gt. Under the hood i have plans on a much grander scale......my friends the only twin turbo 94 gt in the area, if in the state or nation. only a couple more months and my car would eat a bemmer or say a mercades alive. Mustangs, cameros, civics, integras, accords, vipers, yes i said vipers beware, and maybe a covette or 2. no viper on the planet could compete with a pimped out probe. Their massive hp means nothin in the corners of race course. cameros, ha, i will laugh at the stop site then give them an invite to a curvey road:)

I paid 4400 for my Probe GT. Its a nice ride. the car doesnt shake, its pretty fast. it could use a little more horse power. i can hang with most camaros and mustangs until third gear, then im done. perfect car to modify. enginge is kind of hard to work on. everything is bunched up together. i love the car other than the repairs. only had to repair it once so far. 350 dollar job to replace a broken cam shaft spring. mod's i plan on doing is eibach springs, 17 inch rims and tires, borla exhaust, maybe a paint job, sunroof, and finish up my system in the car.

Strength:

Mazda MX-6 (same as Ford Probe)

1. The Engine, 164hp, 160lbs tq, 7500 RPM Redline V6. Revs like no tomorrow, almost like a VTEC. The KL-03 and KL-ZE (J-SPEC) is one of the best engines out there. With 2 VRIS (Variable Intake System?) puts out power at high RPM's.

2. The tranny gives me great shifts, feels great and very durable.

3. The tight steering is one of the best I ever felt. It communicates every bump and curve of the road like a roadster.

4. Surprisingly light at 2600lbs stock, it is in the same class as the Civic, Celica, Integras.

Weakness:

The trunk and car is a little long, measure at around 182 inches.

The best thing about the MX-6 is price. Used MX-6 LS (leather, sunroof, etc) runs around $5000 - $10,000 (1993 - 1995). Similarly, a use GSR (94-98) runs around $8000 - $16,000; a Prelude SI or SH (1992 - 1999) starts at $6,000 and ends at $19,000.

Using the $2000 - $5000 u would save by buying the MX-6, you can easily put on bolts on, bodykit, paint and/or rims that will give you the edge vs those other cars mentioned.

(Stock MX-6, will kill the 95 240 SE.)

Similar Products Used:

94 Integra GSR, 95 Preulde SI, 96 Civic.
Will beat GSR, Prelude, Mustang GT most of the time. (Depending on driver.) Why? Because the MX-6 is a V6, it makes 164hp MOST of the time, instead of the Teg making 170hp only SOME of the time. At the same weight, during racing in streets where frequent braking and cutting puts the MX-6's torque in advantage. It outhandles a Mustang ALL the time. The newer Prelude SH is a problem. But a lightly Modded MX-6 has a good chance.

Lightly modded MX-6 (Intake, Exhaust, Pheonic Spacers ($60) and headers) will put out about 190hp and similar torque will do 0-60 in 6.9-7.0 secs, QT. about 15.2-15.6 @ 90-94mph.

The MX-6 was designed to be in the same class as the top model Prelude and Eclipse.

Strength:

-Great sporty handling
-Quick, if not fast, acceleration
-decent milage
-nice interior
-beautiful!

Weakness:

-could be faster
-not terribly reliable
-exterior tends to wear quickly if not taken care of

If you're the type of person who belives in the American idea of a sports car - heavy, immense engine, straight line acceleration - this is not the sports car for you. But if you want something sporty and fun with a touch of practicality, this car is for you. Lots of storage space, a decent ride, and a nice interior make this car very liveable. It's reasonably light wieght and wide 225/50R16 tires give it playful handling and tenacious grip. And the 165 hp 2.5L six paired with the manual is plenty quick to be fun, even if you can't quite take a camaro at a stop light. I wouldn't recommened the lower trim lines, which make the sacrafices of a sporty car without being sporty enough to be fun. As much as I love the sexy styling of the car, it must be kept careful car of, as the paint seems to scratch and chip easily, especially with the low, groud-facing rocker panels.
