Strength:

Roomy. Good Air Conditioner. Quiet engine. Good fuel economy.

Weakness:

Poor acceleration. Jerky transmission. In the shop too often! ''Sensors'' always going out. Check engine light on a lot. Never buying another Ford.

I have had so many problems with this car. My check engine light is contantly on. Once, I had to replace the transmission ground... it caused all the interior lights, and power steering to come and go. It was scary because the power steering would come and go as I turned the corner. Once they replaced the transmission ground, everything was back to normal. But I have had many other problems. I''ve replaced so many ''sensors'', like the door sensor (kept the interior light on), fuel sensor, etc. The car runs rough at idle and the transmission jerks you back and forth if you try the slightest acceleration. There is no driving exitement in this car, it is boring and agravating!

Strength:

Safety, durability.

Weakness:

could achieve better fuel economy and carry more than 60L of gas. When I fill up the tank I usually only put in between 40-45 litres. Then I found out it was 60 and had a 15L reserve. The reserve in my other vehicles are a little less than 10L, if that! So if you have a taurus and don''t get a long range per tank of fuel you''ll know why. The rear headroom in the sedan could be greatly improved. Most of my family members are 5''9" or over and only my wife can sit upright in the backseat comfortably (my kids have smaller vehicles and can fit in them fine...go figure). The front seats were a little firm for long trips. The rear doors are on a little larger angle for us tall folks (it''s good for my short friends and co-workers when we go out to lunch) but it could be improved. I nicnamed this vehicle the "Bubble Mobile"

My Taurus was a demo model so it was reduced in cost and it came with almost everything except the power seats! I was recently in an incident with the car just two weeks ago when a tourist decided that he missed his turn and pulled out in front of me and then slammed on the brakes, so naturally I slid straight underneath his rear end while he was trying to turn and he took out the stop sign. My air bags deployed and the seat belt''s tightened instantly. The only thing I didn''t like was the smell of the preservatives from the airbags when they deployed. ALthough the impact speed was just under 45km/h (30mph) the bags still went off and i never touched them thanks to the seat belt. FYI The person who cut me off was sent to the hospital and complained of neck injuries (there were no other occupants in either vehicle). Since this car is leased and has only 46000kms (28 750 miles)on the 3.0L Vulcan 145hp V6 the dealership decided just to get it repaired rather than get it replaced. It took two weeks and almost $10 000 in parts and labour to replace most of the front end of the Taurus. Since a car is never the same after a rough accident; so far I''ve only noticed that the electrical system such as the headlights and radio cut in and out as if they have a mind of their own. Just today I pushed all of the fuses TIGHTLY back into their slots, so hopefully that will solve that problem. The FORD service dept. even cleaned my alloy wheels and replaced some of the interior due to the air bag smell (yes it''s that bad!) Just to note that the passenger airbag, even tho there was no one in the seat, when it went off it cracked the windshield quite badly and it was replaced also. Overall, the car could ride smoother but the handling is good due to the aerodynamics of the vehicle and the wide track. The 6 cd changer (trunk mounted) is also a nice feature to have so you''re not fumbling with the CDs in the cabin. If i was in any of my other vehicles I probably would have been slightly injured since they do not posess many if any safety features as the Taurus. Items that had to be fixed in the first 40 000kms were the pasenger seat belt, it would only get tighter and not give the occupant any slack. The centre console lid; hinge problems. The CD player jammed once. I''d add more info but it tells me that I''ve reached the limit. It''s a good car, i enjoy it.

Gas mileage (we were expecting more than 26 mpg)

My husband and I bought our Taurus new from the dealer. We have had minimal problems over the last 5 years, and the car has 64,000 miles on it. It has been a good first car for us.

Strength:

Power with the 3.0 145hp v6 or the 200 hp v6,room,safety,sporty looks and feel it''s and AMERICAN. Also it has great ABS.

Weakness:

It could have more high end features. The stereo is weak.

This is a great car for the money. It provides everything you are looking for in midsized car for around $18,000 give or take a few grand. It has a massive trunk, spacious inside with reasonable power.

Strength:

It has a great 6 disk CD player. A awesome sunroof, too.

Weakness:

Read above.

At first, I liked the car. Now I am beginning to wonder how many more problems I am going to have with it. The motor for the power windows is acting up. The fuel pump went out at 47k miles. The fuel pressure regulator is going bad. The rotors had to be rotated at 27k. Need I say more? I will never buy a Taurus again.

transmission pision that drives foward clutches replace with steel piston.

This is my second taurus type car the first being a mercury sable.Im a certified mechanic in most areas and let me tell you i have put more than a 110k miles on each before having any trouble of signifigance.I read how others have put in or 3 transmissions but let me say if that is the case your transmission shop is not fixing the problem correctly the first time which is nothing more than replacing the aluminum pistion that operates the foward clutches in the automatic transmission with a steel one.By doing doing this it solves virtually all transmission problems with this car.Take my advice go to a reputable transmission shop and watch what they do and make sure they are doing the job right not just snowballing you saying they replaced the trannny wehn they didnt.

Strength:

Cost, interior room (you have to sit in the back seat to understand), trunk space, safety, insurance cost, trunk space, looks, AC, comfortable seats, gas mileage (it really is 21/28 or better, trunk space, engine power (especially at speeds <35mph), did I mention the trunk space?

Weakness:

The stereo is a tape deck, it can''t be replaced by an after market CD player, the only CD option from Ford is a 6 disk trunk system. $60 at Best Buy for a portable CD player and car kit fixes that problem. First gear is very ambitious, second gear is less so and runs a little long thus making the 1->2 shift rather noticable.

I am a recent college graduate. This is my first car. So far I have been very impressed with this vehicle. I bought it 1 year old with 22k on it. For me it''s perfect, it''s comfortable, safe, roomy, and above all affordable. I could also see owning this vehicle if I had a family. Hidden under this mid-size sedan in a nice driving car with a little kick under the hood. I think this car wouldn''t suit someone looking to pick up guys/girls. It''s a Taurus, not a Mustang. This car is a reasonable purchase... investment. No initial mechanical problems to report, just needed my wheels balanced so far.
