Strength:
I''ve had 3 accords. & the ford is more comfortable & handles as well at normal speeds. (accrd bttr @ maniac style drvng) Costs less but hurts on resale. Im still considring 2000 taurus for these reasons.
Weakness:
A review I saw summed it up: poor engineering all around. They didnt bother making things with quality and longevity in mind. Everything from tranny, headgaskets, to trims, molding, pwr windows, etc. I guess thats why $5-7k less than Toy,Hond ect.(new) Weird how some of these cars perform and others dont. I heard the reveiws when I purchased but I went w/ the experience vs reviews. Both sets of parents own the same year and model w/good results. They live in Ohio and drive more like old people in little traffic. I live in LA with constant hard breaking and hard core acclratn on the freeways. Maybe this is the difference I guess I''m more fortunate than most who''ve owned this yr & mdl. I purchased w/67k on got to 102k before serious $$ problems. Mine seems to be the head gasket thing. I have had sensor problems of some sort that creates stalling and acclratn problems. I have had Hondas which I think have lesser comfort and ride. so take your pick of headaches. If your are buying somethng now, I would suggest going with something newer for or dom. Be careful of non mfg warrenties you purchase. You must be maticulous on maintence or you disqaul your policy when time to make a claim. I''ll give fair rating since comfort ride and styl Similar Products Used: 86,87,94 accord.tested drove camry, maxima, had 93 areostar w/bad tranny, cherokee and trooper(have 89). |

Good engine. V-6 SOHC screamer with a few simple mods Ex: Intake filter, exhaust, Ignition, and 100 shot NOS will make this car perform against a VTEC accord or something . Good interior space, good for carying lots o people. This car gets good gas per mile.
Weakness:
Car is kinda big. Transmition locks up on park when parking hills. Tire has a bulge spot. Power windows make just a little more noise than usuall. This car has gave me great service. Nothing major has gone bad. Perforance is great. I''ve installed a custom airmass adapter and a weaon R Dragon intake filter, and a flowmaster system. The car pulls High 13''s-14''s on the strip. Although, I do have a faulty problem. One spot of my left front tre is bulging out. Im scared it might blow. These tires are original. Tha car only hs 42,000 MI. Similar Products Used: none |

Ford Taurus
Strength:
Great gas mileage (25-30), reliable motor, comfy ride on long trips, low-risk insurance group.
Weakness:
Electrical systems: new starter, 3 new wiper motors, 2 new window motors for passenger seats. We bought this car in 1995 with 24k on it . . . we now have 103k. We have had very few problems, but the car seems to go through wiper motors and we''ve had problems with power window motors. Other than that, it''s been a wonderfully reliable vehicle. Because of the mileage, we are thinking of trading it in, not because we have problems, we just want to avoid them in the future. Agree with others that trade-in value is depressing. Highly recommend Ford''s 3.0 liter V6. We have had zero engine problems and we still have the original brakes with 60% remaining (front rotors were turned once at about 75k). Only thing we would change is making back seat fold-down/pass-thru to trunk. Great urban camoflauge vehicle. We have never worried about it being stolen (thus cheap insurance) and the repairs we''ve had to make have been cheap because of the availability of parts. Strength:
Very comfortable seats, spacious interior room, all power ammenities, great acceleration, excellent "bang for the buck", people think it''s a plain taurus.
Weakness:
Aftermarket suppliers are few and far, needs a 1200 dollar differential to cure the wheelspin issue, people think it''s a plain taurus. Ok, first of all, sydney devries is an idiot. The SHO+ model or any other model of SHO, does not come stock with 1 or 2 superchargers. It is a normally aspirated Yamaha derived 3.0L V6. It''s HP rating is 220, with a 24V DOHC design. I have one of the last cars before they changed to the rod shifter, and all in all I can''t really complain about the cable. I had the classic rust over the body molding, but a wire wheel, alittle sand paper, and rustoleum will keep that from coming back. I have yet to do the 60k service on it, which will greatly improve performance, but right now, with 127k on the clock the car runs excellent. It''s been a learning experience being my first DOHC engine that I''ve worked on, but she and I are getting along now. The clutches are absolutely killer to replace, but with patience, it can be done in a day. I bought the car with 119k in may, and yesterday turned 127k and I have savored every mile of driving the car. Where should i start. Killer sound system (JBL), Best V6 ever (Yamaha 24V DOHC) Confortable, very safe car especially for someone like me, over 25 MPG if you try,
Weakness:
Too easy to smoke the tires...they''re not cheap, performance parts and installation isn''t cheap but its worth it this is my second car. It is very fast. i will beat almost any car 0-60 and pretty much anything over 70.(car is bone stock except High performance chip +10HP)It gets good gas (18 MPG, i could get 25 easy but i got a lead foot, if this was a Camaro or Stang, i would get about 11) Similar Products Used: ive never seen anytihng like the SHO...The engine design seems similar to a ferrari. |

Taurus SE Wagon
Strength:
Size, third row seat, engine
Weakness:
Quality, recalls, drives like a couch What a shame.... In January of 2000, I needed a new car. With two kids and a dog, I looked high and low for a new wagon to replace my old Honda Accord Wagon. I looked at every wagon - Audi, Mercedes, Saab, Volvo, Saturn. After driving them all, I decided that we needed a third row seat. That narrowed it down to Volvo, Ford and Audi. I was set on a A6 Avant, because I have a TT and have loved the Audi experiance. At the last minute, I decided to give an American product a try. After owning Japanese and German cars my whole life, I thought it was time to give Ford a try... It didn''t start off well. I met up with a lying salesperson, who tried to sell me a car with features that I explicitly rejected (several times!). And it has been down hill since then. Numerous recalls. Loose body panels. Weird vibration/steering wheel shimmy when braking (took three visits to fix), other brake related problems (going back into the shop tomorrow for the 5th time). Starting problems. Various squeeks, rattles and noises. Rear glass hinge became loose. Thumping noises when turning (new engine mounts installed when the car was about a year old!) And I''m sure there are others that I have forgotten (blocked out). So far, none of these repairs have cost me a cent, and the shop (Vista Ford) has been great, but still, the has not been saisfying on any level. When the lease is up, I will race the car to the dealer and turn it in. I will then go directly to Audi, Volvo or Mercedes and by a real car. Too bad... Acceleration is nice, Braking is good. Very nice interior. Nice big tires. The design of the 97 and up, are absolutely gorgeous. Sleek!! A/C is superb!! Very ROOMY!
Weakness:
Very easy to dent, and to scratch. Not very Sturdy to handle hits. CONSUMES GASOLINE VERY FAST!!! a total gasoline eater V6. Just imagine the V8. mine is a 97 Taurus.Let me see, well, the car''s interior is beautiful, and nicely structured. But the outside. The car is very very easy to dent, and to scratch.I dont know about other taurus''s but the paint sucks on it, it easily gets scratched.I desperately need to repaint it, its white, and i am thinking of painting it black. Still don''t know yet. I but Vent Shades on the car, very dark tint, to keep the hot sun out, and put a 300dll alarm on the car. So far, I love the way it looks and handles. My uncle sold it to me very very cheaply considering it only has 28000 miles on it! The car sures gonna last me a looooong time.
