Taurus 3.8 L
Strength:
Smooth ride on highway, seats ok.
Weakness:
Everything. Where to start? I've owned the car for 4 years. First 2 weeks, hose went bad. Next thing to happen was fuel pump, then another hose. Stranded all 3 times, had to tow. Constant Brake problems, then let's get into the front end problems. CV joints, tie-rods, axle rods, etc. Then more brakes. Have problems with alignment. Latest thing to go wrong? Just the head gasket, water pump, etc. 1150 dollars. Now the car goes dead on me, won't even start, stranded again. Some starter problem, scared to even ask. Must be towed again!!!!!!!!!!! 4,000 dollars on repairs in 4 years. An absolute nightmare of a car. Ford should be ashamed they ever built something like this. Similar Products Used: Hondas, 2 of them. NO problems. |

Smooth riding car, looks good with the 16 inch wheel (new for 2000). Quite ride, controls easy to get too. Price reasonable. Noise level is very low. I hae owned several taurus in the past and this is the best design. Leg room very good and nice size trunk.
Weakness:
Does not come with a CA player in the dash. Only option from dealer is CD in trunk. Gas mileage only 25 mpg which I had hoped would be higher See strenghts above. Engine responds very well. I have the 12 valve model. Has manual lumbar support in the drivers seat !!! Have driven 7 months now with no need to return to the dealer. Have been on two trips and really enjoy driving this car. Taurus SHO
Strength:
Power! Power! Power! Engine(24v V-6 220hp)(Stock) 0-60 in a little over 6secs. Everything else goes without being said.(Spaceious, good suspension, outstanding JBL stock 5 speaker system and more...) A Family Sadan not to be tested.
Weakness:
The re-sale value is very under rated! The CD player is act crazy but it will soon be replaced with a pioneer, I was thinkin of getting the one with the cool 3-d graphics. The windsheild wipers I will have to replace. But all of those things a minor to me. I've owned my Sho for 2ys and the Sho is just what the name is Super High Output. For fun or Family it's a good investment, that is if you take care of it. Preventive maintance is the key. Go get a Sho or just test drive one. You be the judge. The Sho is for a mature buyer that is looking luxury and power. If you are just looking for Performance than I would suggest a Mustang GT, Cobra, or Svt, Better yet save a few more pennies and go get a BMW M3, M5, or M3 coupe. Similar Products Used: My first car was a 95 honda civic and it was quite slow but it had good handling and also good gas mileage that's only because it was a 4cyl. I don't car to much for hondas I had bought that car in haste. I have test drove a number of cars before goin to the Sho, for instense the mustang gt convertible, yeah it's fast and all but it's uncomfortable as hell and i don't see how four people could fit in it for a nice ride. As for the Contour Svt (195hp stock) compared to the Sho's 220 stock go figure. Look if you are looking for a pre-owned car for Family and at the same time don't want to give performance than I highly recommend the Taurus Sho. |

Strength:
Great looks and power. plenty of room in this car. Great sound system and the leather seats looks great. Looks sporty yet a great family car, best of both worlds. Those adjustable pedals are great too, our daughter can drive without being to close to the stearing wheel. great for safety
Weakness:
brakes, should have 4 wheel disks to handle the power Had the car for little over a year now. Never had any big problems with this car, only a few small ones then again more toys more troubles. Similar Products Used: had a 98 Taurus wagan but got rid of it because I liked the look of a sedan better. The 2000 looks much nicer than the 96-99 model years. |

Strength:
It has a good safety record. When the air conditioner works it is cold enough. the paint has held up well
Weakness:
I replaced the transmision. I had to do so much to the air conditioner it was in the shop seven times for a million different problems. both front wheel barings blew out and the trunk and back doors ratle a lot while driving and the mirrors vibrate and make it hard to see out It's an ok car but I wouldn't get one more than three or four years old Similar Products Used: None |

/Taurus SE
Strength:
It has four wheels- it's a start. It does have a huge trunk.
Weakness:
This car is a brick with wheels. Looks ok on the outside, but drives like absolute crap. Instrument panel is flat from the driver's side to the passenger side- it feels too nostalgic of the 1980's cars. Front window is poor- 2/5 of your view is obstructed by the roof, side bars, and rear view mirror. Also the front seat headrests are huge- obstructing views in your blindspot areas. Spend your money elsewhere on a car- I have this one as a company vehicle, and it is a stereotypical "American Car." Not an "American Muscle Car"- meaning that this Taurus SE represents a long lineage of American cars that lack innovation and sophistication inside and out. It feels like sitting on a sofa in the driver's seat, visibility is poor, and the brakes are too soft- making this car feel uncertain about itself. Do yourself a favor and look in to comparable Honda, Nissan, Toyota, or other import car in this price range. Similar Products Used: 2000 Ford Contour, 2001 Nissan Maxima, 1997 BMW 328i |

Strength:
roomy, drives fairly easy, cheap,
Weakness:
has too many problems. If it's not one thing, then it's another. Something always seems to go wrong. This is a good car if you don't plan on driving out of town or anywhere far. This is a nice car for teenagers who want their own automobile. It's not very costly and it will definately teach a child how to take care of what they have. Similar Products Used: N/A |

Strength:
Roomy, handles well, good gas mileage for V6, average 24mpg. Attractive appearance, comfortable seats.
Weakness:
Unreliable-transmission problems, head gasket problem, radiator problem, coolant hoses breakdown quickly, A/C leaks frequently, power windows have a mind of their own, paint flakes off, frequent front end alignment needed, $400 labor to replace a $2 freeze plug, Keeping this car running past 80,000 miles will cost as much as a new car payment. Do not buy this car unless your husband or brother is a mechanic and enjoys working on cars in his spare time. Also, you will have to live with out your car for days or weeks while it being fixed. Similar Products Used: This will be the last american car I will own for a long while. Have had much better luck with Toyota and Honda. |
