Engine - With only 73000 the radiator hose came loose and cracked the block. Somehow the temp gauge was not displaying accurately and no alarm lights came on. DO NOT BUY THIS CAR!!! I would not recommend it because they have unreliable engines. Similar Products Used: Driven Dodge Neon, much more reliable! |

Starts well and has decent acceleration. Not to bad to drive.
Weakness:
Engine head gaskets blew out at 95,000kms. This caused the radiator to also fail. Cost me $1650.00 to repair and that's only part of it. Oil pan corroded and failed and had to be replaced. Problems with premature brake and rotor failures as well. I'm scared stiff about this car and am planning to buy Toyota from now on. I just hope I can get rid of this car before the transmission goes - which is another common failure. I am also suing Ford of Canada over this as they know the problem but just refuse to help their customers. So much for trying to buy North American cars to keep jobs here. I have had it with only lip service to quality from the Big Three manufacturers. I certainly wouldn't recommend this car to anyone unless they have masochistic tendencies. It costs a fortune in gas and repairs to keep this thing going and I have heard many stories like mine from owners of this car. Back to dealer 7 times for transmission, have had several alignments that ruined tires, which were expensive to replace, excessive brake problems, door open light comes on while driving & after you park, which has drained battery because interior lights stay on, electric windows get stuck in down position, strange spark knock noise ever since transmission repaired 3rd time Would never recommend. Repairs are costly. Bought extended warranty and dealership acts aggravated because I call for repairs. Now need electrical looked at & they told me they have no loaner available to use. Must use dealership because I'm just within mileage limit-50 miles away. Don't buy this car. Told dealership they sold me a lemon and they responded by saying I bought it used so it doesn't classify as a lemon!! Similar Products Used: 96 Pontiac Grand Am-Best car I ever had |

Faster then a SHO, Loads of power, handeles great through the snow. NEVER HAD A HEAD GASKET PROBLEM YET. knock on wood. the trunk supports my ams and two 12 inch subs in banpass boxes
Weakness:
expensive parts. body rust. just painted started fusting three days later. from AJAX AUTO BODY, dont go there. faulty thurmastats and crappy gas millage I recommend it, as long as you take care of it. dont use cheep oil, and flush your tranny and rad every year. it is fast sounds wicked with a system, and looks great with tinted windows. dont get a 3.0 or a SHO get a 3.8 bigger is better, and american is better then the 3.0 SHO jap engine. put a super chip in it. Similar Products Used: I have driven a sunfire four or five suffari vans, chevy trucks cammary firefly k cars ford explorer, dodge spirit, commaro, and mustang. The taurus is far superior to these cars in every way, I would take my taurus over a 2000 honda any day. |

Strength:
I like the acceleration that the 3.8 V6 engine provides. The transmission, even with 145,000 miles is smooth and strong. Anti-lock brakes have allowed me to avoid certain misshaps on wet pavement. Roominess for a family of 5 plus large dog is more than adequate.
Weakness:
Head gasket flaw occurred after limit of recall. Rear door hatch is poorly designed and creates noise, vibration, and leaks. I would recommend this vehicle as a family car. After 145,000 miles, other than the head gasket flaw, I have incurred no major maintenance expenses. I change the oil religiously every 3000 miles and service the cooling system and transmission per the owner's manual. I understand that the 2000 model is an even better product. 3.8L/V6 power, gobs of torque 220 @ only 2100rpm. good for long trips, comfort, easy to drive, very smooth and quiet at idle and around the town.
Weakness:
oh, where should I start? factory recall of head gasket. bought the car w/ blown head gasket. AC overhaul 2x. numerous cooling problems. leaking coolant, overheating, faulty thermometer, problems with idle, dies at the stop lights due to weak idle. nice powerful car if it did not have so many problems. Avoid at all costs the 1994 models. My transmission is ok even now at 96000 which is amazing. Probably one of the few. Similar Products Used: - |

Restyled exterior and interior(enhanced cosmetically)
Weakness:
None Unfortunately many people seem to post extremely negative reviews giving many vehicles on this web site a black eye and giving their own cars great reviews.(right?)Probably so that the car they have looks better on the web site or something. However some cars out there are truly bad and its sometimes hard to figure out whose not being honest and who is. Many use exaggerated wording that makes things sound worse than they really are. I purchased a 2000 Ford Taurus in December of 99. I have the SE model with leather seating and all the standard equipment with a CD player included and a rear spoiler. As a father of two children, I value safety. I did my homework on almost all the "family cars" and I found out that the Taurus suited me well. I found the Camry too small and the Honda Accord design was boring. The Taurus offered a roomy interior and pleasant looking exterior. I really liked the fact that the Taurus was awarded double 5 golden stars in the governments crash test and also the Taurus was classified as a "Good Pick" by the NHTSA which is a private organization for off test crash testing. Basically this is a safe car. The engine is very powerful. The ride is smooth with your occasional rough bumps here and there. Overall this care is a great value for all you get. Taurus "SHO"
Strength:
I would have to say the Engine. The car can flat out run if properly maintained, decent gas milage, I get 21.6 city and my best highway was 34.8
Weakness:
The Ergonomics need to be better. The Shifting at higher RPM's. The resale is less then desirable. The Mechanic here's "SHO" jack up the price. Had minor radiator problem's. fixed later for $365.83 I would love to own a fleet (6) of them and take them and make one that has good ergornomic controls, and not rusted ( fords rust ) so wipe the bottom of the doors after washing if you live in the Midwest or the Northern States. If you can buy an Extended Warrenty. Bottom line is that Ford has a good car that could have been a GREAT CAR!! if the Interior was as good as the Yamaha 3.0 Engine. I have a 5-speed, leather, aftermarket sound system, moonroof, good standard package. If you put some money into it for aftermarket fun. Who needs to pay $35,000 plus for a Mercedes-Benz C class or 3 series or BMW's when you can buy a car that will bet it for under $10,000 with a lil money put into it for aftermarket stuff. I say FORD. Go back to the 92-95 model's make them better with better interiors and you'd have less competion from other car makers. That's just my opion. I'd love to have a nice BMW or Benz but for a fraction of the price and the same or better fun. I'll Take a fully stocked "SHO" aka: "Silent Beast" for $10,000 and put $10,000 into it. To add to the engine & interior upgrades. BMW what?.... no need... Race for pink slips?... Dare ya yuppy boy!. If they know whats good for them. They will leave quitely and goto there yuppy friends and lie about how they beat some cheap car on the highway....lol.We'd know the truth.. what an engine!!! i beat numerous mustangs and cameros in this car.it hit 60 mph in under 7 seconds and i saw 147mph on the highway. corners very well. great looks and understated style. the most comfortable front seats i have ever sat in.
Weakness:
the engine out shines the rest of the car - a real gem.i had sunroof, clutch, light, a/c, brake, rattle (this car rattled like a cheap yugo),computer and other various problems. you take this car to mechanic and you can just about see the $ signs ring up in their eyes. tune-ups very expensive, and don't own this car when the 100,000 mile valve lash adjustment comes up. the clutch on this car was terrible. the car had 40,000 miles on it when i got it and the clutch was going then. i replaced it ($800) and still had to take it back in again 3 mnths later. ford really did a bad job on this car. beware of resale value - it sucks - this car has a bad reputation with car dealerships. i've just traded my sho for a 1999 v6 alero, and must say that the alero, though a bit slower, is a much better car.
