Model Reviewed: Honda Accord V6 Coupe

Strength:

Quiet, comfortable, fast, quality construction.

Weakness:

Factory stereo is horrible; upgraded with MB Quart/Alpine...much better.
Michelin tires are terrible, too. Purchased Yokohama Avid V4's; much better wet traction.

Along with Honda's legendary reliability, the ride and drive of the V6 Coupes is unbeatable. Drives as well as the new Acura CL; they both share the same chassis. Definitely recommend the V6; transforms the entire character of the car. Caution: Watch your speedometer; you can't tell how fast you're going by the interior noise. Best car I've ever owned; this is my 3rd Accord and probably will be around for another 12 years or so. My last Accord was a 1989 and I sold it for $5000.00 and it had 187,000 miles on it!

Model Reviewed: Accord EXL, 4 cyclinder

Strength:

The assembly quality and attention to detail are outstanding compared to Camry or Altima. The car is very comfortable and the leather seats are very well made with very good quality leather.

Weakness:

So far I can't find anything to dislike about the car.

overall, I think this is the best car for the money. I believe Honda builds the best engines in the world for this class of automobile. The look and feel of the plastic is outstanding compared to Camry and Altima. I have owned 3 previous Hondas and they have all had very good reliability. I never had any major mechanical problems. My wife had a 95 Ford Windstar and it was a money sink (transmission, tie rods, head gaskets, electrical problems). I just got her a 2000 Honda Odyssey and she loves it. So much for American cars.

97 Accord EXL with a 4 cyclinder. I like the additional room inside. My 97 felt like it had better acceleration than the 2001. The seats are much better in terms of lateral support.

Strength:

excelent realibility, it has 195K on it, it has a couple of problems, but it just keeps going and going. Very easy to drive, handles like a go cart.
30-100 pretty quick, especially 70-90. Great gas mileage.

Weakness:

Kinda small. 0-30 takes awhile. Somewhat weak engine. (2.0L I4)
Also, almost all the windows dont work

I would recommend it for someone who needs a no thrills car that doesn't have much money.

Model Reviewed: Honda Accord EX CPE 4cyl

Strength:

Very tight handling, sporty feel, pleasant ride, a little peppier than older 4 cyl accord. 6 CD-changer has excellent sound--for a factory player. Aesthetically pleasing.

Weakness:

Wish there were more color options. Remote engine starting would be nice.

Well, my 93 Accord EX was starting to show its wear and tear in the last few months. The ABS light came on+Driver window wouldn't roll up--off track+90,000 maintaince+timing belt+water pump+worn struts+worn tires=Expensive maintainance and repair. I estimated I had 2K-3K of repairs coming so I off loaded my 93 to the dealer in a trade in. Got ~$4000 with all those problems from the dealer. The dealer sold this car just a little over invoice. It was a pleasant experience--I did my homework, had quotes from e-mails of other dealers in the Atlanta area, so he knew I was playing hard ball. He beat my best deal by around $100.

I tested the V-6 accord and it didn't handle as well--in my opinion as the 4 cylinder. Probably the extra engine weight. I really feel the suspension of the Accord is optimized for the weight of a 4 cylinder and that is why it is much tighter. This car is *much* tighter and handles better than my old 93 accord EX. Considering the extra cost of the v-6 and the fact that it didn't handle as well, I liked the 4 cylinder better. It had about as much pep as my 5 spd accord. Now the old 93 4-spd automatic did not have has much pep, so the net result is more power in this vehicle. I kind of wanted a 5 speed, but opted for the automatic since they are easier to resell and Atlanta traffic makes driving a stick no fun.

All the bells and whistles are there--I opted for cloth seats (hate leather when wearing shorts on hotlanta summer days). Much more leg room than my 93 EX. Tighter ride than my dads 2000 Nissan GLE although not as fast. I will say this...I noticed a lot of young women staring at this car--a lot. Definately a chick magnet. I think the Coupe is a great car for twenty something out of college and working his first or second job. The sedan will suit the family man a lot better.

Model Reviewed: accord LX

Strength:

This is an awesome car. It is extremely reliable and soundly built. I think it looks better than any late 80s car in its class by far, it isn't boxy and the flip up headlights are very cool. I've heard that some people have trouble with the paint peeling, but mine looks great still. The inside is weedy too, there is tons of room, I'm 6'5" and have no trouble feeling comfortable. The back seat fits 2 easily as well. Pretty damn good stock speakers. The dash, air vents, and air control display are all ahead of their time. A lot of cars still don't have the little readout of what door is ajar. The cruise control is the easiest to use I have ever seen, it even works at 25mph. Some people don't like this but I do, your ass is about 6" off the road. Great handling. I get 320 miles to a 13 gallon tank(25mpg). Did I mention it never breaks. The stick is a must.

Weakness:

My LX has NO power from 1st to 2nd gear b/c of this I will never try to race some one at a light. Get the fuel injected LX-i if a nice one is available, it gets even better mpg and adds about 20 horses. The breaks suck and I mean suck, it occasionally rains here in Seattle so I have to be quite careful.

If you are like me:a high school commuter, 17, not rich, and want a sweet car that is economical get a second or third generation accord. I hit it big with this one, it is in mint condition, has 135k miles on it(equal to 40k on a domestic car), smells good, and I absolutely stole it. Accords that fit into these categories can be fairly sold for $4500, I got it for a G less. Also if you do ever sell it, the preceding accord reputation gives it high resale. Dare I say it, I dare, accords are were and will be ahead of the rest, I love mine.

Strength:

Smooth ride, easy to drive, and steer. Very roomy interior.

Weakness:

Seats can get a little uncomfortable after and hour or so. Sun roof rattled from the moment I drove it off the lot.

All in all I'm really pleased with this car (V6 EX version). It's got a great ride and it feels very safe and solid. It feels modestly luxurious with the leather.

Strength:

First off, there are two 2000 Accords in my driveway. The first one is a LX 4 Cylinder with an auto and the other is an LX 4 cylinder with a 5 speed. These cars are great! These would be Honda #6 and #7 respectively. We have yet to have a SINGLE problem with them. The 4 cylinder auto is quite peppy. The tranny stays with you the entire time. Very willing to downshift if it needs to and the shifts are damn near imperceptible. The 5 speed is SURELY quicker. When the VTEC cam slides over, there is a neat little rush of power! Both are competent cars, but the 5 speed get's up and goes. Many people have ridden in the car wondering if that is a V6 under the hood...but I gladly tell them that it is a 2.3 Liter I-4 revving away! Great Job Honda...great job!

Weakness:

When the weather turns cold....they sound like bad diesels upon start up. The valve-train is noisy...but I asked the Manufacturer..not the dealer...and they said that the VTEC valvetrains are somewhat noisy when cold...but they assured me that nothing was wrong with the car.

Honda makes great cars. You will always find a certain someone who has to bash anything "Japanese", but Honda cars are great. They hold up very well...sure there are some lemons, they perform well, and they hold their value exceptionally well. If you want a reliable, well built, comfortable, peppy family hauler, then I suggest an Accord. Don't be afraid to drive a 4 cylinder either...just because it has only 4 pots, doesn't mean it can't keep up with the crowd. Besides, drive a Camry 4-cyl...you will be waiting MUCH longer for acceleration than you would in an Accord 4-cyl. Nuff said..I am out!

Strength:

Overall a nice car. Drives well. Plenty of space, comfortable on long drives.

Weakness:

Air Conditioner
The ari conditioner suffers with strong musty smell. This smell is worst when the car is started after standing for say 30min to an hour. If the car is stareed with the air con on Recirculate itmust be switched to vent to prevent the smell circulating through out the car.
We have had the air con serviced by the Authorised Honda dealer since new. The air con has been cleaned at least 3 times.
Honda Australia claim all cars have this problem. We dispute this claim. As a fleet owner of over 50 vehicles of many makes I have not experienced a problem of similar nature on what was when we bought it a "new vehicle".
Honda Australia now state the matter is not a warranty issue even though we have had extended warranty. Honda also state that warranty will not be extended on the air con if we accept their offer to take a further extension.
I have ridden in many Honda cars and do not recall ever having experienced this problem.

Can anyone tell me if this is common to all Accords of current models?? Are there owners with sinmilar problems??? I would like to take this matter further if possible. Othere wise I will sell the Honda and buy something else that does not suffer the problem.

I believe that the claim that Honda make is incorrect and they are avoiding an issue that probably relates to a design or adjustment problem for which there is no simple cure.
If you do not wish to be troubled by a smelly Air Con then consider another make.

Similar Products Used:

The car drives well, is comfortable, safe, looks good and is generally a pleasure to drive.
These attributes however are overshadowed by the Air Conditioner problems and the lack of support from Honda who clain smelly (actually stinks) air conditioners are common to all cars.
