Model Reviewed: honda accord ex v-6

Strength:

Attracts more than the occasional head turns. Its looks are fitting tfor the younger croud as well as the older. Very comfortable interior with the leather, very roomy, and climate control a/c. Steering wheel mounted audio controls are very convenient. Six-cd in-dash is pretty cool as well. New design of front fascia and side body moldings are also a plus for 2001. As for the performandce...well vtec v-6 says it all. For a 70's muscle car enthusiast, 200 HP isn't much, but this is 200 precision HP applied to a very firm suspension capable of injecting it all into the pavement. In other words...in can go. Handles some of the sharpest curves at the highest speeds that I've ever had enuogh cajones to try. On the staights it can easily reach 130 mph and there is stillsome power under my foot...I'm just too much of a wuss to push it any faster. You might find hard to stay under 80 mph b/c you just dont get a sensation of speed.

Weakness:

Wood trim is standard on the ex v-6, but it should include around the radio, door, handles, ac vents like I had expected. These costed me extra. The audio unit doesn't have preamp outputs as they are needed for the somewhat lacking power of the system. Needs a bit more bass. Wider tires would be great for those high speed curves that the 200 horsies under the hood so often dare you to attempt. Maybe even 17" wheels could make this already beatiful work of art that much more eye-dazzling.

The Accord is definitely a smart buy for someone loking for a ride with outstanding performance and classy appearance. Price is a little high initially but with much haggling, you can drive out at a reasonable price that is well worth it. This is a car that will be enjoyed for many years with minimal maintenance.( I hope...I cant predict the future)

This car is the Accord at its best, or pretty close to it. Very comfortable ride, and very spacious on the inside. The interior is lovely, and easily holds four.

Weakness:

Nothing noteworthy.

I would recommend this car to anyone who wants to combine low end luxury with high end performance and reliability. Very nice ride.

Strength:

The car looks beautiful, cost isnt too bad

Weakness:

rims on the 4cyl are ugly
paint chips way too easily
5sp not offered in 6cyl
no power unless you rev it to 5000 rpm and still a 6cyl sedan is faster

If they offered the 6cyl in a 5spd and made the paint stronger car would be great

Strength:

The power, styling, interior space, trunk space, the ergonomics, Honda reputation.

Weakness:

Dents easily, sits too low, can't upgrade the size in tires, stereo could be better.

I really like it. I think the stereo could have deeper bass, it could ride a little quiter. But other than that, I like it a lot. It's a very dependable car and is still going strong. I tried an Altima, Alero, and a Camary, and I picked the Honda. I am very happy with my purchase. It is pretty quite, stable at 80 mph. its just a fun little car to drive. it turns very well, you can park it anywhere (my parent's have a Suburban that I had to drive until I got my Mercedes, and it was bad about parking), and the ride quality is good. The suspension is a little loose around some turns, but its not a Corvette, its a Honda.

Model Reviewed: Accord Cpe EX V-6

Strength:

Excellent Engine matched to an even better auto transmission, love the new front and side exterior revisions for 2001, good power; especially on the freeway, standard in dash 6 CD changer

Weakness:

No 5 speed transmission for V-6, I like the wood trim better on the silver interior trim, limited aftermarket proformance parts compared to four bagger.

I purchased my 2001 Satin Silver Metallic Accord EX V-6 directly from the fleet manager at San Leandro Honda. I didn't brother with a salesman, sorry I can't tolerate ignorance and arrogance of Honda salesmen. I got this car in early September, when most dealerships were laughing at me saying that the 2001 models were not going to be out until October. I talked to the fleet manager at San Leandro Honda and he told me he could factory direct order the car the way I wanted. He order the car from the factory and within a week it was in his lot ready to deliver. He e-mailed me right away and I got the car the next day. The fleet manager was very friendly and we quickly agreed on a fair price on the car and I signed the papers the same day. The whole process took less than 1/2 an hour. The fleet manager has also given me his price on honda accesories that I but as well, which is usually a good 25-40% less than what you pay at the Dealership. My overall experience at the dealership was great.
Now for the car, I saved up and work to death since I was 15 to buy this car. I wanted a car that would last me many years, be something I could look at and say "Damn that's a nice car" over the years, and a car that worked well with a auto tranny since my father refused to drive a 5 speed if I got the car (I was paying everything on the car, but I still live at home while I'm going to college and they need to take the car sometimes too :) ). I found the accord the best mix of all these factors. I love the power of the car, this car can kick especially on the freeway. I have easily got this car to its governor limited 135 mph speed with just about 4400 RPM on the 4th gear. This car is one of the few V-6s that accept regular unleaded fuel. Living in the bay area, paying for regular rather than premium saves a lot of money. The leather interior is comfortable and the lumber support is helpful on long trips, especially if you are a tall rider like me.
One big flaw in the Accord is the lack of a 5 speed transmission. Putting a 5 speed in the V-6 Accord would make the car a true sports coupe, but then again maybe Honda doesn't do it in order to sell Preludes. Other than that, the 2001 Accord Coupe is perfect for me. It was worth saving for 3 years.

Model Reviewed: Accord EX V6

Strength:

Crisp response in corners and steering overall. Strong engine overall. Has great giddy up and go. Leather interior. Good room. Layout of controls is good.

Weakness:

One major problem when we got the car was the transmission. There was a noticable "jerk" intermitently when placed in reverse that felt like you had ran over something. Honda played it off to electronic shifting at first. This was at 2000 to 5000 miles. They would not OK tearing into the car until they got more info from above. The problem was noticed around the country with only the EX V6 combination. We got a rebuilt new transmission at 5000 miles.:( On a positive note, this cured the problem and the car once again performs flawlessly to date. The problem did not effect performance as far as we could tell. It only occured in the first 5 feet of slow backing up. On level ground, inclined, it didn't matter. but it was not consistent when it would occur. Luckily it did it at the dealership on more than one occassion for them to experience. The only other weakeness is there is a small noise issue at highway speeds. Gas milage could be better, app. 20-22 mpg at mixed driving, 28 mpg at highway. An overdrive gear may help this at highway speeds. The milage we experienced was what Honda said we would get, so no real surprise.

Overall this is a very well made car. We test drove everything we could to compare this type of car, including SUVs. There was nothing we felt compared to the Accord for our lifestyle. The wife loves the car and I have to fight for driving privledges. The engine is quiet and responsive when you have to use it. It is a joy to drive. The leather seats make long drives quite bearable. Lots of room for big adults in the back seat. Trunk space is good and the body styling still turns heads. We have the CD changer in the trunk and a Honda Spoiler which really makes the car. The dual exhaust as a very nice sound and compliments the cars looks. We have put on 12000 miles with the rebuilt transmission and have not had one problem. They apparently know now what the problem was. Not all cars had this problem we were told, just a small percentage. Honda service has great when to making us satisfied. The automatic temperature adjusting feature is very nice also. Not having a fan constently blowing on you is good. Driving at high speeds is stable and the 4 wheel disk brakes are excellent when stopping. If I had to buy this car again, I would. I too, plan on having this car for a very long time.

Model Reviewed: Accord Coupe EX V6

Strength:

1. Sportiness yet practical (better alternative to the prelude)
2. Quick off the line acceleration
3. Stable tight turns (future modifications recommended to make it perfect such as lowering springs and strut bars)
4. Ample room for a coupe (again better alternative to the prelude)
5. More luxerious than the prelude
6. Standard equipment superb! (Check honda brochure for details)

Weakness:

Body of the car feels fragile....(too keep production cost down or to make the car lighter?) Maybe easily dented from everyday use in the public parking lot.

Got the car when it was first available at the Honda dealers. Price paid out the door is about avg. Couldn't get any better because I was one of the first few people to buy it. Silver color very hard to find....becuase of the popularity of it...luckly I got it first. If considering between Prelude and Accord Coupe V6....get the Accord...pratical, luxerious, more passenger room (esp in the back), much better standard equipment. Accord V6 vs. 4 cylinder Prelude.... both with 200hp. Accord v6 has more torque. Better styling....etc. Better resale value. Although not a true sports car...its close enough. Basically the prelude is for the true sports car enthusiasts who have no care for anything else but pure sports car performance. Also all ages look great in the Accord...while the prelude focuses more to the younger ages.

Reliability, features, interior space, handling, engine power, fuel economy & value.
After 12 years & 180K it runs smoother then ever. Only items ever replaced are clutch & AC compressor.

Weakness:

Looks a little too conservative; needs spoiler & alloy wheels to make it a little more appealing.

...ever wonder why American cars are pretty much worthless second-hand?
Even though US cars have improved the last few years, they'll never stack up against german & japanese engineering untill they introduce the metric system to Detroit. (you can't build a car from feet & inches!)

I recommend this car to anyone who wants the most for his/her hard-earned buck. Accords are savings accounts, no moneypits!

Nothing beats the Accord's long history of strong engineering. My mother-in-law's 2000 SE is proof they carried on that tradition.

Strength:

The general feel of the road without being a race car. Nice engine, goes faster the faster you go, nothing great thought. A very nice( that damn nice word again ) single persons run-about.

Weakness:

Way too much body roll into turns. Add $2000 to the price of the car to fix the handling. Then again it dosn't feel like a race car. Every lady I take on a date loves the car. Definitly a "chick" car, sorry but true.

Paid $26'000 out the door (tax, licence, all) including Lo-Jack and floor mats. 6 CD front loader is a good thing. I was going to get a Prelude but the resale value for the Accord is a little higher here in California. The silver/black leather inter. helps in that area, too. Read again "chick car". If I was going to get a sport car, I would buy a Porche. 4WD? Humvee. (O.K., Hummer. I was in the Marines and those Hummers are really fun. City car, well??). This is a nice, practical, blah blah blah car. The engine is good if you never driven a healthy V-8. Driven the fast car? Look some place else or make more money.
