Strength:

Reliability
Lots of room
Great ride
Good fuel economy (26-28 mpg)

Weakness:

Interior feel is some what cheaper than earlier models

Bought this car for $5000 in 1999. It was in a wreck (salvage title) but mechanically remains perfect. The car has 149,000 miles on it and feels like it is just getting broke in (Im sure I will see well over 200,000). The chassis/suspension setup is solid and feels light for a 4 door sedan. A decent cruiser for the highway (75 mph=3000rpm). Took a road trip to Cali from Iowa (4000+ miles round trip)over the summer (4 people and a packed trunk) and the car loved every minute. I love the body styling. A well rounded car covering all aspects of handling, ride, acceleration, economy, and ergonomics to an extent that few other cars will in this price range.
Other than routine maintenance the Accord has had no problems(keep in mind this car was in a wreck and has 149,000 miles). Resale value for Hondas is generally higher than domestics, however with a car that begs to have miles put on it I doubt a for sale sign will grace my window any time soon. This is the perfect car if you are looking for reliability, room, economy, and practicality.

Model Reviewed: Accord EX 4Dr 4cyl Auto

Strength:

Styling, features, comfort, reliability, handling

Weakness:

4cyl Auto is a little weak on the highway for hills. Stock stereo (Premium system) gets fuzzy around 50% volume. Found this to be the speakers, which I replaced with all Boston Accoustics. Sounds great, but the amplifier in the unit is a bit under powered. Thin metal panels dent easy. Paint chips and scratches easy. Very scary to handle at 220km/h.

I have to say this is a nice smooth car. I've driven the Camry before as well, and I have to say that I did like it better for it's smoothness. I didn't like the styling of the Camry as well though and the instrument cluster is u-g-l-y. I only wish right now that I had purchased the V6 model of the accord. I do quite a bit of highway driving and I find with a full load in the car, it's quite weak going up hills. It doesn't really drop speed, but it rev's itself up pretty good.

I'd reccomend this car to someone who wants a bit more performance and styling than smoothness. If you want smooth .. go for the Camry, though feature for feature, you'll pay the price as well. Camry seems to be around 1500 to 2000 more than Accord for the same option group.

Model Reviewed: Accord SE

Strength:

-quality feel to the ride
-keyless entry
-security system
-smooth, quiet engine and reasonably gutsy engine (2.3L VTEC)
-matched with 5-speed manual
-a place to put fuel cap when re-fueling (details matter!)
-the instrumentation is clear and easy to read
-big buttons on the stereo makes changing stations a snap

Weakness:

-ignition key position is awkward when starting the car. Should be at 1 O'clock not at 10 O'Clock.
-dome light goes out too fast when entering car
-the SE trim uses a prop to hold up the hood, I would prefer the hydraulics that are used on the more expensive Accord EX V6.
-fake wood trim may eventually grow on me

This is an excellent family sedan with plenty of interior room. It feels like a luxury car, while remaining reasonably priced. I really feel it is an excellent value.

If you do a lot of highway driving, get the V6. But for mostly city driving, this combination of 2.3L 150 hp VTEC with a 5 speed manual gets great fuel economy and performance.

Sure there are faster and bigger cars, but I believe all the extras are just for the ego. I've found all that I need in this package.

Model Reviewed: / 4-door sedan LX

Strength:

Outstanding reliability,resale value,and exterior styling

Weakness:

Not really a weakness...but the paint is finally starting to go. Can't fault the car though..it's never been garaged or had a car cover since the moment I bought it in Feb. 88". Some people(not me)don't like the low seating position. You sit low like a race car driver..a Honda trademark.A minor gripe, the hard rubber strip that runs through the middle of the front and rear body-colored bumpers starts to fade out badly after the four year mark. I simply masked off the bumper and sprayed black spray paint which is designed for hard rubber. Whatta time-saver when it was time to wash the car...no rubber protectant to apply...a messy and pain in the butt job.

Well, I've owned my beloved Accord for almost thirteen years and she's got 211,000 miles on the odometer....still love the car but her age is finally starting to show. I've religously used synthetic oil since the beginning and you should see how clean the engine is with the valve cover removed...no gunk or grime...the extra cost of synthetics is worth it if you decide to keep your vehicle for the long haul. However, I wised-up and stopped getting the major brands(Mobil 1, Pennzoil, etc.) because the price was going through the roof. I've been using Pep Boys and Wal-mart's synthetics for the past couple years to save around $1-$1.25/quart. Same great benefits without all of the price gouging. I've had very few problems with the Accord except the normal wear items which every car endures. However, there were a few incidences...the fuel pump died at the 165,000 mile mark after the car was 8.5 years old(not uncommon), the alternator went around five months later at the 170,000 mile mark, and the starter finally gave up the ghost last winter after 205,000 miles....not too shabby since the Accord's had to endure 12(and counting)winters in the Northeast. One more thing, I had to replace the rear upper control arm/balljoint assembly at the 184,000 mile mark back in Dec.97". The driver's side rear balljoint popped out of it's socket so I replaced both sides since I'm sure the other side wasn't too far behind. No big deal..bought both sides for only $87.50($43.75 each)from Matta Motors(www.mattamotors.com...real nice guys...been dealing with them for years). It was a snap...jack it up,remove the bolts on the assembly, and install the new unit...voila! In short, I'm a die-hard loyal Honda fan...been that way for 16 years. We currently own a 98" CRV(love it!) and this 88" Accord...both are great products. You REALLY can't go wrong with a Honda...I had people come up to me(up until the paint started to fade a year ago) who asked me how much I'd be willing to sell the Accord for. My response..it's not for sale,...it runs great,it's reliable(particularily for it's age), and it's been paid off for 8 years..a major bonus.I also know it's been meticulously maintained and most of the normal "big" wear items have already been replaced and will probably last the remainder of the car's life. I hope to hit 300,000 miles if the body holds out...I know the engine will make it.

Our friend had a 89" Camry and I much preferred the Accord's supple ride to that of the Camry. The Camry wasn't bad but Honda's double wishbone suspension is hard to beat. I had also added Tokico hi-performance struts(which are a major improvement over the OEM stuff) so that might've had something to do with it. The Tokico's give a firm(but supple)ride and give the Accord's handling a major boost...even without aftermarket lowering springs.

Strength:

Great interior and trunk room
Good on the gas (about 375 miles)at 2.25 a gal.
Great acceleration when wanting to pass cars
Very good not the greatest sound system but it does the job. You can feel the bass and that is what I like
4 speed + overdrive auto is always where i what it to be meaning the gear.
good power
I just like the car
AC is the coldest that I have ever felt in a car
Shape of the car has that roundness to it

Weakness:

well the first month that I got the car the lighter came right out of the hole.
After a while the AC blower stops working but you can still feel the cold air.
Paint started to turn white last month and looks like sh--.
Brake are a little weak for the weight of the car.
Power ant. does not go all the way up or down

I paid 6,500 for my accord and it was already 8 years old and it had 99000 mile on it but when I took it for a test drive I fell in love with the car. I live on the Big Island of Hawaii and it is about 120 miles from where I live to go to work (one way). And does great on the gas. It cost me about 45.00 to feel the tank up and I have to do that about every other day. I have not had to put any big amounts of money to fix it just the minor stuff like changing the oil which I have Honda do it for me. My accord can hit 120 MPH with great ease If anyone asked if they should bye this car I would tell them GO FOR IT....

Strength:

It has a nice shape and feel to it. You can't beat the power steering and the sound system (without and modifications) is pretty good. These cars are excellent cars to modify. Their unique style stands out from all the new hondas, camrys, subaru legacys. You can't even tell the difference anymore. Engine sound is nice. People look at you when you go. I have 156,145 miles on it and it runs almost like new. The interior is so classy and has style. Much better then a buick regal custom or a subaru legacy (both 90's)

Weakness:

Some eletrical problems. Door light has caused some minor problems but all I need is a new spring latch so it will close and click off light. The engine throttle can sound harsh and practiacally jump into the street when you start it in the morning or when it's cold. I think it's carbuerator problems but thats about it. No major costs so far. starting off the line can be a little sluggish but in the long run, it beats all!

I got a great deal on my accord I paid $3150 on it and don't regret it. It looks excellent for it's year and can be a sweet car if modified a little bit. My next goal is a sound system. Only need the cd player. i got all the bass i need. I would rather have a 5-speed transmisson but I'm very happy with the automatic. I would definetly recomend this car. Especially if your a student like me and you drive the best 3rd generation accord at your school! yeah baby yeah. eat my dust toyota, hyandai, and yall

The styling was okay, the interior was nice but very unegronomic..
Accleration was good, felt like you were going faster than you were.
Bought the car with 110,000 miles on it, heard good things about Honda..

Weakness:

at 130,000, 160,000, 190,000 new transmissions and at 190,000 also new engine. There were other minor replacements like window motors and some wiring.. I guess Honda isnt as good of a car as I heard..

I would not recommend Honda based on my experiences with mine.. The car was a money pit... I dont see why people like them, I was afraid to drive it to the store. I also paid to much for the car in my opinion...
I bought a 93 saturn sl2 after the accord, it had 110,000 miles on it. the Saturn lasted 170,000 mile until it was totaled on a freeway. I had only one problem with it that was the serpentine tensioner, it broke, $100 for a new one and a new belt and I was on my way again.

Accord is a very reliable car for long drive this is the best car, you will never realize that you drove such long distance. That's my personal experiance. The bad part is accords do not have navigation system option. So, if you like touring... keep your eyes on the map.

I am very satisfied with my Car, it never broke for any reasons. It drives well without any single problem I put 28000 in 1.8 years.

I strongly ask you to consider Accord in your choice.

Strength:

This Accord coupe has a peppy VTEC engine, lots of space, great ergonomics, and sporty styling (especially w/ alloy wheels & rear spoiler). The interior noise is low while comfort is high! Honda used quality materials as usual and the Accord is known for its reliability.
Handling and steering is good; it's a very durable car.

Weakness:

Front of the car looks too much like the sedan. More horsepower is always good.

I definitely recommend buying this car. Don't even consider the Camry Solara!!! The Accord coupe is more affordable, more powerful, and a lot more attractive. It comes with plenty of options. There is also a large aftermarket for Accord's if you ever want to modify your car.
