slow noisy no CD player I've had my car for almost one year and I have no major complaints. My minor gripes, however, are about the sounds, slowness, and vibrations. When you first begin accelerating, you can really hear and feel the gears changing; it's like a jerking feeling with a sound to accompany it (this is the most annoying thing to me about the car). It is definitely hard to pick up speed at first, but once you've cleared about 35 or 40 miles per hour, you're good to go. This car is extremely slow in hot weather (I have taken it to the desert many times, and it was very sluggish!). If you're ever running from someone (police, psychotic girlfriend/boyfriend, etc.) this is not the car for you! One review on a Civic said something along the lines of: changing the entire engine would make the Civic satisfactory for a racer...I second that opinion without a doubt. Other quirky noises are heard when you turn the defroster or the headlights on (I'm not sure why this is...I've heard that all cars do this...but I highly doubt it). Don't get me wrong...this is a good car. If you just want a comfortable car to get you around for your normal day to day driving, in mild weather, and if some minor noises don't bother you too much (after all, the noises are not extremely loud) you will probably not be disappointed with this car. I am happy with the car overall. Its cupholders are not in front of anything besides the electrical outlet. There is an armrest attached to the driver's seat (right side) that provides some comfort. The trunk and back seat are decent sizes, but are not fit for a family. There really is not a console in the LX, just a thin compartment behind the emergency break. There are only two cupholders (in the front). The LX does not come with a CD player, moonroof or V-Tech engine (all of these things are included in the EX). FYI: I am trading my LX in for the EX (the next and highest model of the Civic). With the LX, you get a car...the EX just has more to offer...more toys...more speed...more car. By the way, I just test drove the 2003 Civic EX and I loved it! If you are a prospective buyer of the car that I have now, don't fret...I'm happy with it, but I do want more in a car. A personal note: I always get excellent service at my dealer, Long Beach Honda. The sales and service departments are friendly, informed, and very helpful. I would definitely recommend buying a Civic. It's a pretty cool car! Good luck! :) Similar Products Used: none |

Strength:
1. gas mileage. $25 canadian to fill tank and I can get over 700km/tank 2. excellent winter driving. Where i live snow and ice cover the roads 6 months a year. the civic is reliable in cold weather(-40C) and controls predictabily on bad roads. The car rides on rails. You literally have to yank the hand brake to fish tail. Only problem is getting stuck in deep snow when they haven't plowed the roads in 3 days. 3. Reliablity. Honda parts are cheap. You won't have fix much anyways. Just fluids and filters 4. Easy city driving. finding parking spaces, changing lanes and fitting into super tight spaces is a breeze 5. Fun to drive in general 6. No rust so far 7. I really like the hatch/tailgate system
Weakness:
1. Whenever I honk my horn people laugh at me. beepbeep! Honda we need a new horn 2. Excess cabin noise at speed over 100km/h. depends on road surface. really hard to have a conversation or hear radio some times. 3. Put more than 2 passengers in this car and power bogs down to nothing 4. door panels are vulnerable to parking lots dings and creases. 5. base model has nothing! no power steering, no ABS, no tach, no clock. side mirror and rear winshield wiper are options. So far I have put 165,000 km and have only had to replace muffler, front brakes, and cv boots. All normal wear and tear. The motor and trans. run like new! I love Honda cars and plan on getting an Acura RSX type S when I finish school. Similar Products Used: 2002 neon |

Reliability, Good looks, SOOOO easy to drive the standard, Gas mileage, Service at the dealership is a dream, Replacement parts are surprisingly inexpensive.
Weakness:
You pay alot for a car with no bells and whistles, I had to buy the damned passenger side mirror separately. No a/c, no cruise, no PDL. FANTASTIC car!!! I've driven it 425,000km so far and I'll never sell it. Still get 50+ mpg on the highway, there was a time I broke 60mpg(while driving all highway miles & under 100kph - but what fun is that). No engine noise, I've never had to do anything but minor maintenance. I'm from Winnipeg so it see's ALL types of weather: -40 to 100 degrees F, 6 months of winter. Decent power & handling, but I do miss my 5.0 litre Mustang. Very solidly built but is finally starting to get some rattles. Very little rust. I will be buying another one when I have to. Weakness:
no torque from motor, have to be in high rpms for hp from vtec to kick in After having lived with this car for over 4 years now, I kinda have met its quirks and good points. It is a reliable car to point a to point b, but hope that is not a long distance! I have made 700 mile trips in it, and am completely beat after the first 200. Its brother the accord is a much more comfortable car for the long distances. The cabin is somewhat small and the seats are not supportive enough. My largest gripe of the car is where the put the cd player in the dash, behind the cup holder. Would love to meet the idiot who did this, but as positive note later model civics have fixed this problem. Mechanically, the car is fairly reliable, the only problem is with the automatic trans. I have had it replaced twice, and would much prefer the straight so as to put the car better in its higher rpms, where the vtec motors produce higher horsepower. Torque is terrible in the car. Fuel consumption depends on your driving style. Interestingly, I have taken this thing offroading more than most suvs will ever see, and it has held up well (driven through creeks and very very small obstacles). After having had the car for some time now I think more of its reliablity record as a marketing ploy, i have not seen exceptional reliablity of it over other cars. Overall this is my favorite year for the civic, i think this is the last year that they were using the double wishbone suspension in the front before switching to just the macpherson struts in the front to shorten its hood, presumbly for unneeded asethitics. Strength:
this car is a piece of junk.only good thing is gas mileage.
Weakness:
-acceleration -sound system -weak break -weak clutch -small engine -too expensive This car is a waste of money.First off,i thought that this car would be good in acceleration but i tried racing my friend's hyundai elantra (auto trans.) and the elantra was way ahead of me.If you're into racing like me and you think that this car is fast, you thought wrong.Don't even waste your time on this product. This car does not ride as smooth as I thought it would and again, this car is slow!!!I even put a cold air intake and a muffler and I raced a stock elantra. This car is a disgrace,I think that the only way that this car could be fast is if you change the whole engine into a bigger one.The only thing I like about this car is that it actually saves gas and that's about it.The sound system is poor, acceleration is poor, breaking is poor, clutch is weak, and a lot more. Vtec hits hard and makes chrping 2nd great. Sound is nice even stock. WAY more stylish then the new Si.. (and faster too, dont care what the haters say.)MPG is good too.
Weakness:
Needs more power, but is great for little hard runs (hey.. u can take base model mustangs!) I had always dreamed of having an EBP Si, so when I found one for cheap I was ery happy. Power is impressive for the small 4 cyl. Vtec runs great with my mods. I love the car overall, yet I would go with something more powerfull in the future. Similar Products Used: None. |

/EX coupe
Strength:
*Stylish (civics after 2000 are so ugly) and fun to drive *Good fuel econonomy when not trying to hod-rod with it (but tank only holds about 11-12 gallons). *Plenty of storage in trunk w/fold-down backseats. *very upgradable if you like to waste money *pretty safe
Weakness:
*Interior wears pretty fast. *Low-lifes love to jack civics for some reason *Rain drops settle on back window, no rear-wiper *Fuel gauge is very unreliable to go by. Needle moves up and down like crazy while driving. Never been a fan of the Hondas but I got a deal I couldnt refuse. The EX is the top-of-the-line model w/ sunroof. This is a fun and stylish car to cruise around in but I wont buy one again The HP/torque specs seem pretty weak but since the car's only 2500lbs and high revving, it makes for a pretty fun ride. I can make 0-60 in 8secs. I regret not getting the manual so I can hear the VTEC more, but the automatic is pretty trouble free. It goes up hills w/o a flinch. The interior and electronics are pretty cheap though. Risk of theft and insurance rates are high. |
