Honda Civic (2010 and older) Midsize | Compact

DESCRIPTION

The Civic is Honda’s compact car that is offered in sedan and coupe versions. First introduced as a small, inexpensive hatchback in 1972, the Civic has increased in size during its lifetime while continuing to offer excellent fuel economy. The entire Civic line was all-new for 2006.

The basic Civic is available as a sedan and coupe and comes in several trims: DX, DX-VP, LX-S, EX and EX-L. The Civic SI, the performance-oriented trim, offers 57 more horsepower than the base model, a few more performance options and a starting price of around $7,000 more than the base Civic.

The Civic also comes in two eco-friendly options: the Honda Civic Hybrid, which is reviewed separately, and the GX, a hybrid alternative that runs on Compressed Natural Gas. Unfortunately the GX is only sold in California (and other states that have accepted California's Zero-Emission Vehicle regulations). It costs about $10,000 more than a base Civic.

Strength:

160 horses with 132 ft/lb of torque with disk brakes all the way around and front and rear sway bars. almost makes front wheel drive fun.

Weakness:

antilock brakes suck even when done by honda. front wheel drive would be fun without the abs.

the new line of si civics come in a 3 door hatchback like they used to it also comes with a new 2.0 liter i-vtec powerplant. the car has 20% more torque than the previous si. i bought the car because it is spacious, almost is sporty, and sleek as hell. the car drives like a dream. the car only comes in a 5 speed which is dash mounted like todays rally cars. the transmission is absolutely the smoothest ever. short throw, short clutch, and quiet. i was going to get a brand new impreza wrx before i bought my civic but it had an stx short throw shift kit in it that was horrible. you had to slam it into each gear with way too much force for a car with 400 miles on it. piece of crap transmission. the civic si has totally sold me on the transmission alone. but the only thing that is not perfect is the abs system. worst and first abs system they have put on there 5 speed civics and its awful.

Strength:

It's a nice car to get me to school and back. The steering wheel is pretty heavy, which is great because there's more precision at higher speeds.

Weakness:

Low hp. :(

I used to drive a Volvo so this car seems like it doesn't have enough power for me. When I press on the accelerator after coming to a complete stop, it feels as if it "sticks" before it can get to 20 mph. The same thing happens around 40 mph. I thought it felt odd, but when I took the car in to have it looked at, I was told that it was fine and that it was just me not being used to having a car with lower hp.

Strength:

Good steering,Abs braking a plus, side air bags.Gas milage is okay.Ride is smooth an quite but you can't go over 30mph in the city.

Weakness:

Need more horse power. I hope they bring back the 2 door coupe SI.It needs better struts KYB would be a plus. And 16" tires for improved road handling.

It is a great car for the money. The EX comes with all the options Honda has to offer. This copmact car is a plus in NYC, good for those tight parking spaces.Opt for the 5 speed manual it has more pep then the 4 speed automatic.Hey say that these car last but NYC streets can be murder on any car.

Runs smooth, sporty looking (well the two doors), AC is great, the speakers sound good with a new JVC stero system, absolutley dreamy.

Weakness:

None...just makes a hole in my poket book, but I get so much for my money. :)

I absolutley LOVE my Honda Civic! She is the most beautiful car and I love her with all my heart. I had an '88 Hyndai Excel (RED) which ran really good, but it had no AC! My new 2002 Honda Civic (Satin Silver) runs like a dream and is heaven in the summertime. I am very satisfied with Honda.

Smooth ride, good gas mileage, very roomy, smooth manual trans.,

Weakness:

trans. squeaks(they say this is normal) engine needs more power must turn off AC when going uphill

If you are a Costco member, take advantage of their car buying program. I bought two cars using this program and saved a lot of money! Purchased 2002 LX 4-door, 5 spd. Traded in my 1993 Civic, big difference in the ride. From now on I will buy Honda cars.

Model Reviewed: EX sedan manual

Strength:

Reliability Power (the manual beats the auto in this dept) Manual transmission is great; could use a short throw shifter, though Comfort and ergonomics Cabin noise (rattles, etc) Good sound system (factory cd unit) Aggressive braking system (just feels safe, esp with ABS) More room than I imagined, especially with the sunroof (I'm 6'1") 39/27 highway/city gas mileage Aesthetics (my opinion, of course)

Weakness:

Harsh acceleration noise Whimpy wheels...must upgrade soon Road noise at high speeds (think this is due to the average tires) Every ricer on the road thinks I will want to race them...

My civic is fully loaded except for alloy wheels and it's a great little ride. Lots of features for the price and the reliability that Hondas are known for. The price point was perfect for my first new car; I got a great deal. Overall, I am impressed. It's an economy car, make no mistake; you know it when you drive around. But it's great for a first new car.

Strength:

The realibity you can't beat it. A couple of people at work have hondas one with over 300,00 miles on it and one with 250,000. The car is all around great, The clutch feels great. No rattles or wind noises and seats are comfortable. The aftermarket world is wide open, there is no limit on what you can do with one of these cars.

Weakness:

Well every car has its weakness. A little pricy, I only had a few problems the stock cd player is garbage. It heats up and then cuts out, replaced it with a Kenwood excelon. Also The sensor that senses the brake pedal to the cruise control went, causing it think that the brake was always being applied. Had it replaced under warranty. Other than that every car can use improvements.

After getting sick of my 97 VW Gl that was falling apart. I wanted to buy something that had to be fun to drive and reliable since I drive 40,000 miles a year. I decided that I wanted a 2000 Civic EX in silver and it had to be a 5 speed. I found one and I really love it. It's fun to drive, handles well, and just an all around great car.

road noise is kind of loud

Its been a great car so far. It no has 25,000 miles on it. The only problem has been the front brakes rotors warped and the car would shudder coming to a stop. They fixed that though, and its been good ever since. No other problems.
