Honda Civic (2010 and older) Midsize | Compact

DESCRIPTION

The Civic is Honda’s compact car that is offered in sedan and coupe versions. First introduced as a small, inexpensive hatchback in 1972, the Civic has increased in size during its lifetime while continuing to offer excellent fuel economy. The entire Civic line was all-new for 2006.

The basic Civic is available as a sedan and coupe and comes in several trims: DX, DX-VP, LX-S, EX and EX-L. The Civic SI, the performance-oriented trim, offers 57 more horsepower than the base model, a few more performance options and a starting price of around $7,000 more than the base Civic.

The Civic also comes in two eco-friendly options: the Honda Civic Hybrid, which is reviewed separately, and the GX, a hybrid alternative that runs on Compressed Natural Gas. Unfortunately the GX is only sold in California (and other states that have accepted California's Zero-Emission Vehicle regulations). It costs about $10,000 more than a base Civic.

Strength:

Price, gas is great on this car. During this harsh economy, I have save a great deal but it fluctuate sometimes.

Weakness:

Radio isn''t very good. Volume was low and my speakers were ruin because in harsh rain, the water leaked into my side doors on both side. Attenna doesn''t have good reception for some of my radio stations. As for accelation, I have to pray before I merge onto any high way. It is very slow and at times, I worry if I can''t speed up enough, I get hit in the back. Steering does shake when I drive over drive over 70mph, but I think it has shaken less. Gas does get eaten up after many years, but it isn''t that bad. And finally driving more than 60 mph, you can hear the wind in your car. But it''s not too bad for the money. It''s been reliable and haven''t broken down yet. All the problems above are minor and I can live with due to what I paid.

car is worth what I had paid for it. So I am happy, but it does need some improvements.

Strength:

Good on gas, smooth ride, good sound system

Weakness:

Too many to put into words.

I am very disappointed in Honda. This is the second Civic I have owned, so I know about the "quality" of Honda products. I''ve had the car less than a year and it has been nothing but a problem since then. Within a couple of weeks of having the car I noticed a strange noise coming from the right passenger side whenever I went over bumps in the road. Come to find out, Honda didn''t put a strut on the passenger side of my car. By making this "mistake" it affected the left and it had to be replaced. I''ve had problems with the suspension, front end alignment, crunching noises while driving, etc. And also, when stopping abruptly my passenger seat flipped up as if it was going to come off the track. I am not satisfied with my car!

Model Reviewed: Honda Civic Sedan LX

Strength:

Low fuel consumption - barely sips the fuel no matter if you''re on the highway or in the city. Very reliable. Good quality and dependability for the price. Good resale value.

Weakness:

Poor acceleration. Cheap paint - easily scratched. Uncomfortable seats. The body doesn''t feel as solid as say, a VW.

This is my first new car and like most Hondas it is very reliable. Didn''t have a single problem with it and it has been 3 plus years now. All I have done to maintain the car is the scheduled oil changes and tune ups, and nothing has broken down or failed on me (except the plastic coin holder was very shoddy and broke within a few months of purchase). I have a few quibbles about the car - in the first two years, it had quite awful acceleration (even though it was manual transmission) and didn''t seem to build up any speed climbing slopes, but the car''s drivability improved after that. The paint is cheap and easy to scratch. There is a lack of traction with the tires, seemed to skid on wet surfaces. The gears don''t lock properly in reverse gear, it makes a grinding noise initially and you have to put it into reverse gear again. However, aside from these quibbles, it''s still a great starter car, better for in city driving than long trips but very reliable which is the most important thing for me.

Strength:

brakes, overall handling, economy and excellent resale value.

Weakness:

exceleration and timing belts that have to be replaced every 90000 km.

This is the best car I have ever owned. The brake pads were replaced at 110000 km with the rotors machined. The rear brake shoes which were checked at 130000 km have 40% wear left and all other components such as exhaust system, battery, shocks etc are original. I would certainly by another Honda again but perhaps move up the the Accord model next time.

Strength:

Great gas mileage, very stylish, great handling. Love the sunroof, and my dog loves the flat back floorboard!

Weakness:

A little loud when driving on a rough road, but smooth on the highway. I wish there was more storage up front in the dash or in the armrest.

Great Car for the price!!! I have 7,000 miles on this car, and it is still running perfectly. I would recommend the EX with more horsepower. It really makes a difference from the LX. I am hoping to have this car for at least 10 years.

Strength:

still get high 30''s in mileage and runs like a top, very smooth. Still fun to drive. No rattles or squeeks at 224,500 miles, cruises at 75 mph and gets high 30 mpg. Am on my 3rd set of tires, original clutch, 3rd set of front brakes, 2nd back brakes. Amazing to me.

Weakness:

Rear defroster comes on when engine is started at times. Seat is low and position is not to good for a 5''10 man. I cut the rearview mirror stalk down because it was in my line of sight out the front window; fine now. Factory Radio/Cassette has a short in it now. Rear wheel wells rusting inside.

Great performer, very reliable. Drove it last week 600 miles with my wife and new baby in it and was not afraid it would break down - even with 224,000 on it. This is my first new car, 1990, and I still have it.
