Honda Civic DX coupe
Strength:
Great handling, nice look, smooth steering, large interior, powerful headlights,
Weakness:
Dents incredibly easily, no torque for the hills, slow acceleration, (106 hps), gas pedal is a little sensitive, terrible radio reception. Doors feel light and cheap when you close them. The car is very smooth and responsive. I drive it A LOT and have had no problems except that the tires wear fast and the air conditioning is weak. I would recommend it to any one who wants a very well engineered car that requires little maintenance. It seems like the front tires lose grip rather easily when you drive over manholes on a turn. Strength:
-Great mileage
Weakness:
-Rather cheap, plasticky looking interior (but, very utilitarian) Paid $12,500, used in Summer of 1999...felt I got a pretty good deal for it...looked brand new. Has performed flawlessly so far. I drive to get good mileage so I routinely get 40mpg and have gotten as high as 45 if I really, really get crazy about it. Can easily get 30-35mpg. The LX engine (non-VTEC) is enough power for me at this point, despite the lack of torque. My main gripe is tire and wind noise at highway speeds. I would definitely recommend the Civic LX to anyone who wants not much more than basic transportation...it is the epitomy of smart, utilitarian (but can easily be transformed into a speed machine with all the aftermarket parts that are available), quality and very reliable transportation. It makes sense why there are so many of them on the road. Highly Recommended! Similar Products Used: My first car, but seems to compare well with the Toyota Corolla, Mazda Protoge and Ford Focus. |

Honda Civic EX
Strength:
-holds value
Weakness:
-everybody has one I paid $17200, but I traded in a Dodge Spirit and ended up owing on the trade-in value. After 4 years into a 5 year loan, I have ended up with about $1000+ equity in my Civic (and I put about 20,000 miles a year on a car). I think this car is a smart investment. Strength:
The car gets great fuel economy. On average in town I can go approximately 350 miles on one 10 gallon tank. Also the ergonomics of the car are smartly laid out and all the controls are easy to find. The power window buttons are on the door arm rest where they should be. The radio is placed in a way that is easy to reach while driving. The climate controls are near the radio and can be operated easily and safely while driving. The most noticible strenght of my Honda Civic EX is it's fit, finish and overall quality. There are no rattles or buzzes usually associated with small compact cars. The interior is incredibly quiet. All the doors and body panels fit together tighly with no gaps. When you shut the door you can tell the car is sealed. This convergance of fit, finish and overall quailty help add to the cars most important strength, it's safe feel. The car is so solid, firm and well laid out it feels like you are in a larger, heavier car, making you feel safe and comfortable once inside. Plus all of Honda's usual safety features and sturdy dependable build make this the best small car I have owned and I have no regrets in recommending this car to anyone.
Weakness:
Their are few weaknesses I could find with my Honda. One of the most noticable weeknesses though would be the seats. I own a coupe, and I have kids which means I am constantly moving the front bucket seat to allow access to the rear of the car. Unlike many coupes, the Honda's front seats do not reset to where they were before you moved them, making it sometimes cumbersome to get in the car, especially in the rain! You actually have to reset the position of the seats everytime you move them. Also, the power windows seem a little slow. They go down fast, but the motor seems weak when raising them back up. The final weakness I could find was the gauge cluster. When you turn the lights on when going through tunnels, which I do daily, or in a rain storm or any dim light situation, the instraments are hard to see. Sometimes you can not even tell the lights are on. It works great at night, but the dim light situations are difficult. My 2000 Honda Civic EX was purchased for $16,500. With the features it came with and it's overall performance so far that is a very reasonable price. I have no problem recommending this car to anyone. We are a young middle income family. My Honda Civic has sporty looks, a great sound system and a fun, powerful drivetrain, which really appeals to me. Its safety, quality and style are what attracts my wife to it. It is the kind of car you can through the kids in and drive 200 miles to the beach comfortably, go to the grocery store or the mall on a whim or pull into a nice resturant and let the valet park your car without feeling embarassed. Similar Products Used: Before I bought my Honda, I owned a 1999 Kia Sephia. I bought the Kia after seeing thier adds comparing them to the Honda Civic. The adds are true that the Kia is less expensive, but that is the end of the comparison. The Honda is in such a different class, it is an unfair comparison. The Kia was poorly put together. I ended up having to have Kia repurchase my Sephia from me under the Lemon Law due to faulty brake rotors. Though the rotor problem was determined to be from the parts manufacturer, my Kia was constantly in the shop. I have had my Honda in the shop once in 6 months. A SRS airbag sensor was faulty causing the airbag alert to light. I do not mind that kind of fault. Overall the Kia Sephia does not compare to the Honda Civic. The Kia had far less horsepower, the interior was cramp, cheap feeling and loud. It was not common for a knob to fall off or for the center console door not to close properly. Plus the estimated gas milage was nothing like the Honda's. I could go approximately 280 miles on a 10 gallon tank in the Kia Sephia compared to 350 miles on a 10 gallon tank in the Honda. The Honda is far superior to the Kia in every way. |

Strength:
Good looks , Very Easy to upgrade car for more power, lots of aftermarket products, smooth shifting, good handeling (excpecially when lowered)
Weakness:
Purple on instruments is gay, lights fog up when easily, rain leaks on top of doors, tape/cd undernether everyhing else, poor stock power, puny wheels 14" i paid 11,000 for my 96 civic ex, i love it even with all the weakneses listed. Its great for me or anyone else who is looking for a car to modify, as there are many many many aftermarkert products for the civic out there. It is such an easy engine to understand and work on and very easy and realitivly inexpensive to take a 127 hp civic and create your own 300+ hp civic R. Honda Civic LX Sedan
Strength:
The civic has proven to be very reliable and it doesn't drink that much gas. I generally get about 35 miles to the gallon. The styling looks great and it is nice and sporty, more so than the newer or the older generations. The navy blue body color is great although the interior is a bit too drab. There is not much in the way of low end torque or power. However, it will get you there once you rev it up past 3500 RPM. The gear shift and the clutch work great together but it took a while to get used to the hydraulic clutch. It does not have the same "feel" as a conventional clutch.
Weakness:
The handling is only average (I'm currently working on improving that aspect of the car). When you hit a bump while turning it tends to affect the steering. The interior is a little too small for someone of my size (6'4", big boned) but that is my parent's fault, not the car's (haha)! And, as I mentioned before, it is rather sluggish if you don't rev the engine past 3 grand or so. I paid $9,500.00 USD for this car last August (1999). I didn't care much for the dealer (Open Road Honda in Edison, NJ). But I guess that all car dealers are somewhat shady and unreliable. I really recommend this car to average sized people who are in need of a great automobile (bigger folks might like to try the Accord. I couldn't afford it at the time). I love the fact that there are so many after market parts for the car. So far I have bolted on strut bars, tie bars and a Ractive heat shield air intake. I'm not really certain if they improve the performance that much but they do look trick! I think a header and a cat-back exhaust are next! Similar Products Used: 1983 Honda Civic 1300 Coupe. Another great car. However, you can't compare it to the newer models. It did not have the same features and it was very small (but nimble!). |

Smooth ride, spacious backseat and sleek look. The little chirping noise when you press the remote door lock (it makes people "think" you have an alarm).
Weakness:
Well...where do I start? I am very disappointed with my FIRST experience with Honda. I always heard friends and coworkers rant and rave about Honda's customer service and reliability. Now I am wondering if the Hyundai instead of Honda! When I go to the dealer to discuss the problems I am having with my 3 month old vehicle, they make me feel as if I am making a big deal out of nothing. My concerns are undermined and quickly dismissed. I have been there so many times all the mechanics know me by name! Similar Products Used: Nissan 200SX |

This is a sweet little car. It goes fast when I want it to and it goes slow when I want it to. THe car seems to know what I'm thinking. It handles better that my dads Audi TT.
Weakness:
When I fisrt bought the car the suspension squeeked a little. Took it to the dealer and they fixed it. Also after the first 3000 I'm going to have to take it back to have the alingment adjusted. I know what your thinking but I've not gone over anything to cause this. This is a great, and I mean great little car. Lots of personality. Quick, nimble, and well built. I would reccomend this car over and over and over . . . Is not a fuel hog. Does not complain when driven hard. The car actually seems to desire a firm hand and if your not careful, can get out of control. THe specs say 0-60 in a little over 7 sec. I've been clocked on a flat surface, no wind, in 6.5 flat. The only thing I'd do differently is put in some more noise damping material, which I'll do thank you. Oh yeah, braking is not the greatest in the world. However, this can be ammended. Finialy, there are more aftermarket items for this car than any other when it comes to performance modifications. I think after the warrenty leaves I'll attempt to get the 0-60 mark at or bellow 6 sec. A new headder, exaust, ect . . . Anyone for 180hp on a 1.4 litter 4 valve pocket rocket. I love this car. Similar Products Used: Audi TT, Nissan, Toyota . . . I shoped around. This car is for any who are going to buy the civic and want more power and handling. Oh yeah, no more civic si's in 2001 |

Strength:
good handling, good gas mileage
Weakness:
wind noise, very unpleasant on the interstate highway My 10-year old Ford Tempo was a more pleasant ride. I should have never bought this car. The dealer was not very responsive after purchase. Customer service at Honda is minimal at the top layers of management (the customer service reps were good however). Greg May Honda in Waco picked up the ball and were very courteous, but were stopped dead in their tracks by their district manager who said he couldn't hear any noise and it was only 'turbulence'. They blow off customer concerns and make you feel stupid. Honda has built a name for themselves and now feel that they are above any customer complaints. Well, they just lost me as a future customer and all my friends as well! Honda, that will cost you much more in lost sales than if you had simply fixed the wind noise! BOO to HONDA! SHAME on you!
