Honda Civic (2010 and older) Midsize | Compact

Honda Civic (2010 and older) Midsize | Compact

DESCRIPTION

The Civic is Honda’s compact car that is offered in sedan and coupe versions. First introduced as a small, inexpensive hatchback in 1972, the Civic has increased in size during its lifetime while continuing to offer excellent fuel economy. The entire Civic line was all-new for 2006.

The basic Civic is available as a sedan and coupe and comes in several trims: DX, DX-VP, LX-S, EX and EX-L. The Civic SI, the performance-oriented trim, offers 57 more horsepower than the base model, a few more performance options and a starting price of around $7,000 more than the base Civic.

The Civic also comes in two eco-friendly options: the Honda Civic Hybrid, which is reviewed separately, and the GX, a hybrid alternative that runs on Compressed Natural Gas. Unfortunately the GX is only sold in California (and other states that have accepted California's Zero-Emission Vehicle regulations). It costs about $10,000 more than a base Civic.

Strength:

The reliability of this car is great. In three years I haven't had any problems except a new starter, which I was told is extremely rare. The factory stereo is great compared to others in its class. The looks of the Civic still get my eye even though there are a million on the road.

Weakness:

The cupholder is the worst, but just a minor inconvenience. The engine could use more low end torque, wish I would've gotten a 5-speed instead. Road noise is horrible, but heard that it is the stock tires, not the car.

I love my Civic. I leased it and the lease expires in 6 weeks. Considered buying it off of the lease, but going to grad school so can't afford the payments. I think the 96-2000 civics are much better looking than the 2001. I think that Honda needs to make more of the options standard for the price. How much would it cost them to make the CD, floormats, and rims standard on a car that already costs 17000. The resale value is great. My car has only depreciated 2500 in 3 years. I will miss this car alot, but am replacing it with a 93 VW Passat GLX VR6, so I will get over it quickly.

Strength:

Definately sharp looking, LOVE THE AFTERMARKET PARTS!!!!!! Fairly easy to work on.

Weakness:

That everything is metric. The engines don't have enough power unless you have a V-Tec, That damn rust that occurs in the wheel well. All honda's should come with power steering. If you don't keep your honda tuned up you can be in for a world of trouble. It will start to smoke, ping and sound like it is on it's last leg. My advise is to definately take good care of a honda, esepcially dealing with an oil change.

I have always loved hondas. I think that they are one of the best cars on the market. They are great on gas, fairly inexpensive to fix and are definately impressive to look at. Aside from that I love how there are so many after market parts for them, you can't find half the aftermarket parts for american cars like you can for a honda. Honda's are definately one of my favorite brands cars.

Similar Products Used:

Probably an Acura is a similar car, but I'd say that Hondas are definately better looking and all around a better car. Acura's are more expensive to fix

Strength:

Quick, well built. Nice platform for aftermarket upgrades. Nice platform for a good audio system. Formula One engine sound towards redline. Very entertaining car to drive.

Weakness:

Has to be driven like a rental car to achieve advertised performance numbers. Doesn't make peak power until 2/3 of the way to the 8000 redline. When it rains the windows must remain completely closed. Poorly desined roof/door junction means water poors into the car soaking the interior of the door. Aftermarket window shroud a must if you live in rainy area.

A well built 'po' man's BMW 328. Fast for a car of it's class and beyond. Somewhat pricey.

Strength:

Great handling, fit and finish and styling.

Weakness:

exhaust manifold cracked, unexplained predetonation problem. Previous owner obviously abused this car. Don't get your Honda worked on at a Ford dealership, they will screw it up.

I hate to give a bad review on a Honda, but mine has been nothing but trouble. I bought it with 66,000 miles on it for $8995 and have put another 5,000 miles on it. the car looks nice, handles well, has no rattles or squeaks and gets good mileage (32-39 combined city/hwy). However, the exhaust manifold cracked and cost $800 to repair. The tires are wearing funny, the clutch is going out and I have a problem with the engine knocking and pinging when going up a steep grade. I didn't bother to purchase a warranty when I bought this car because I never thought I'd need one with a Honda. I must have gotten an abused car. I would definately buy another Honda, but I would do more research on it next time to make sure it wasn't owned by a young driver.
The area Honda dealer (Mick McClure in Lewiston, Idaho)has been great and is the best dealer I've ever dealt with. The car is washed every time, the bill is what they said it would be (or less!) and everyone is friendly and apologetic for the problems I'm having. Can't wait to get out of college and buy a new Honda!

Strength:

Fun to drive, economy, durability, looks, relative comfort.

Weakness:

Wind noise (door seals), no wagon version (I'm looking at the Toyota Matrix and Mazda Protege 5) and poor bumpers.

We have had the Civic EXV for 9.5 years and have been very happy. It has been virtually trouble free for 225,000 km. It was a great value giving us 90% of an Integra for Thousands less. Excellent Product. Incredible value.
I didn't get along with the Honda dealer so I get my service done at Balmoral Park Acura and treated like a king.
It has never left me stranded but it was towed twice from home for unrelated ignition failures. Other than that the major items that were replaced were starter, wheel bearings, and suspension bushings. That is it other than brakes, batteries and CV boots! Would heartily recommend the product, disapointed with the dealer.

Strength:

Great synergy between shifter, clutch, and accelerator. Excellent handling in the twisties.
Driveability in town is superior to many cars I tested and highway driving is also a real pleasure. I have the 115hp engine and find the acceleration more than adequate in normal driving and passing - and I'm not a Mr. Slow type driver. I keep hearing about cup holders in these reviews - hey they work fine for me - maybe people have the wrong shaped cup! Fuel economy and reliability have also been excellent.

Weakness:

Hard to find any! Slight road noise on rough pavement - but less than any other import cars in this price range - and certainly not bothersome.

Love this car! I test drove everything in and within $4000 of the Civic's price. This car is impossible to beat in terms of all round features (reliability, economy, fun factor, comfort, quality and price). Fact is, I become more impressed with this car the longer I own it.

Strength:

Mileage is great average 27 mpg with a/c and quick accelerations. Very easy to modify and it has hundreds of after-market modifications to add to it. Handles great.
I've had it for 38000 miles and the only things I've replaced are the tires, windshield wipers, and the crappy stock stereo. The speakers are decent, not great.

Weakness:

Lots of road noise and lack of power with a full load or a/c on.
I have an LX manual...I wish I had a v-tech engine that comes with the EX models

This car is great in every way except that you need an EX v-tech or SI manual for enough power
You definately get what you pay for in the long run
RELIABILITY is what you pay for from the start and you definately get your money's worth!!!

Honda, Honda, Honda. I still have my first Honda, 1990 Civic hatch. Made to last. Auto tranny is really smooth. Interior room is pretty good for 4 people. Trunk is pretty big as well. Good gas mileage.

Weakness:

1.6 is under powered with people/cargo in the car. Wind noise at highway speeds. ABS super expensive option.

Love this car. Could use a little extra power. It's two years old and NEVER been to the dealer yet. Just regular maintenance. Are you listening Ford? Very solid feeling to it. Pretty quiet at highway speeds (except for windnoise). I would recommend this car to anybody. Cheaper to buy/maintain that VW golf/jetta, better quality than gm/ford/chrysler, nicer than toyota/mazda. Do your research about dealer invoice cost since many will not budge unless you show them!!
