Honda Civic (2010 and older) Midsize | Compact

DESCRIPTION

The Civic is Honda’s compact car that is offered in sedan and coupe versions. First introduced as a small, inexpensive hatchback in 1972, the Civic has increased in size during its lifetime while continuing to offer excellent fuel economy. The entire Civic line was all-new for 2006.

The basic Civic is available as a sedan and coupe and comes in several trims: DX, DX-VP, LX-S, EX and EX-L. The Civic SI, the performance-oriented trim, offers 57 more horsepower than the base model, a few more performance options and a starting price of around $7,000 more than the base Civic.

The Civic also comes in two eco-friendly options: the Honda Civic Hybrid, which is reviewed separately, and the GX, a hybrid alternative that runs on Compressed Natural Gas. Unfortunately the GX is only sold in California (and other states that have accepted California's Zero-Emission Vehicle regulations). It costs about $10,000 more than a base Civic.

Anaconda in my Honda
Model Reviewed: civic Si

Strength:

The Si is a real racing car i've done an easy 50mph in 2nd gear. My car kinda takes forever to get to 60mph. It should feel alittle bit faster than what if feels like with its vtec motor with a few upgraded aftermarket parts.

Weakness:

i lost to my friends Honda Civic Ex by a car lengh. He has Rs Akimoto intake,Exhaust, wires, sparkplugs, headers, fuel injection valve, and pcv valve along with 4"total drop springs and coil overs. His car does 0-60 in the high 6's to the mid 7's sometimes. Mine just the mid 7's and a 7.0sec when i really shift the heck out of it.

I like the Si just need a little bit more aftermarket parts then it's ready to get up and go. Planning on doing the interior now and then the engine later already have cold air intake, plugs, exhaust.

Model Reviewed: DX manual, 2door, with CD, AC

Strength:

An excellent city driving car. Stick shift is a must! Excellent handling, and a lot of fun. It's comfortable, and large enough for the driver and passenger, but the rear seats are very small - which doesn't matter to me cause I'll never sit there :)

Weakness:

After a little more than a month owning it something in the back is rattling, and my steering wheel makes a slight rubbing sound when I turn it.

The engine and the entire car in general is very loud. On the highway it's almost to the point of being annoying. The engine is a little on the weak side (which contributes to the noise most likely). Also it does not seem to idle nicely, at a stop light there is a noticeable amount of vibration that I did not expect a brand new car to have.

The DX model comes pretty bare which accounts for it's low sticker price, but therefore costs extra to have CD and AC installed. CD and AC should be standard accessories. Also the DX manual transmission model does not come with a tacheometer, so you're gearing by ear/feel (which I suppose is what *real* drivers do anyway right?)

All in all, I have a very good feeling about this car. It starts up in flash, and it's very zippy and fun to drive around the city. It's not ideal for long distance highway driving but does suffice. I was on vacation for 2 weeks and when I came back it started up without a hitch - a nice feeling.

I got the cheapest model possible, and I'm very satisfied with it. Not because I'm a cheapskate, but because my driving needs at this time really didn't warrant anything more expensive. I would have considered buying a used Civic, but the resale values of Honda Civic's are ridiculously high. It's hardly even worthwhile buying one used. This is very reassuring when it comes time for me to sell it.

I did test drive and was seriously considering the Honda Prelude as well. Now that's a fantastic car! The engine is more than twice as good (on paper and on the road) and really is everything I could want in a car. But the one thing the Civic had over the Prelude was the interior styling. The Civic looks so much nicer than the Prelude that it's just silly to think what Honda was thinking about when designing the Prelude. My next car will likely be a Prelude if they update it with more modern exterior and interior design. But for the time being, the Civic will serve my needs very nicely.

Being under 25, I get raped on insurance costs. And it was so releaving to find out that my car insurance didn't cost me an arm and a leg. I won't even repeat the numbers that I was quoted for insuring a Prelude at my age.

Apart from the weaknesses I listed above, it's still a great car and would recommend it to younger drivers, or someone looking for an inexpensive and reliable car to get them around.

quick, great suspension,i can take high speed turns with ease, affordable
comfortable, sporty, never dies very reliable, air conditioning cools quick

the only bad thing i can really say i guess is more leg room in the back seats like thats a big deal but it is what my passengers are always complaining about

love this car, if your shopping and comparing cars just go and test drive the car and you will be convinced. I literally try to destroy this car but it just won't die. fun to drive great acceleration and best of all I get
almost 40 miles per gallon with this car and it only costs me like 13 bucks to fill this car up. I really want to get one of the faster SI models
when the time is right. If you want to drive a really cool car that by far is probably the best built check out the subaru wrx impreza. this car kicks but. im telling you if not a honda get the impreza this car is tight

Love the new body style. I can just see this car done up. ooh!! Slam it, mod it, and rub it down!!

Weakness:

Could use a little more HP but for the price I guess I can't complain. Optional leather interior would be nice...

Re: someone's comment about the extra compartment below the CD player. (It's supposed to be for a tape player, optional addition)

I've found this to be the perfect spot to keep x3 CD's. They fit so perfectly that they don't move around when you're driving. I'd be awefully impressed if they did that on purpose. >=)

pretty smooth ride, 5-speed manual is a joy to shift, good handling, good freeway speed, oh also great on gas, so i can laugh at all the camaros and firebirds when gas is $2.50 a gallon and i am still getting 40 m.p.g on the freeway.

Weakness:

low torque, small back seat, not much else

i bought this car in may of 1999. I put some chrome rims with 205/45/16 on it. Rims and tires are a must as the stock tires suck ass, the car is now a blast to drive. i have driven this car to L.A. so many times. Very Very Very reliable, that is the best thing. looks good and there are many after-market upgrades available.

Model Reviewed: Civic EX Coupe

Strength:

This is my first car, and now I'm gunna be a Honda/Acura buyer forever! Nice engine, good power. Very upgradable (lots of aftermarket performanceparts), great looks, extremely reliable (I'm running on the stock clutch just fine after 106,000 miles), never fails to perform. Very solid ride, except for in slush or snow when it drives like crud. Does snow ever fall in Japan? :-). Great suspension. Great visibility. Very nicely designed and put together. I also like the seats. The headrests are really futuristic with their one post and the seats hold me really well with the side grabber things when I'm doing hard turns (which, with it's low stance, it's excellent at). I feel that I got a really good car for the $6800 I paid for it.

Weakness:

Flimsy interior, door molding creaks when you press on it, hard to eliminate all rattles after installing a really powerful stereo system. I've had to have both font CV boots replaced with 100,000+ miles on the car. (I don't know how common this problem is) I would have liked more wiper speed settings, a faster moonroof, and larger wheels stock. Also, it drives like crap in snow or slush. Might as well drive a stainless steel spoon. Maybe they don't have snow in Japan? :-) Other than that, that's pretty much it. I can only say what I know about this car since I've had it... so some of my complaints about the Civic are probably just due to it being a car with a lot of miles on it that I drive a lot, and drive very hard.

Strength:

Very peppy engine. I had a DX hatchback and swore I wouldn't get rid of it...I did. I love the new look, it's very sleek. The EX has all the toys. I had alloys put on the 15 inch tires, what a major difference in look. Also got the side airbags which made the insurance drop a bit..Love the silver accents too. I purchased the satin sliver exterior color to compliment the inside accents. The trunk is HUGE. Better cup holders than my 1999 model. I only had the car 5 days and so far I am pleased.

Weakness:

Needs a full size spare in the trunk..I hate donut tires! Leather option would be a plus. The stereo is only 30 watts per channel...would be nice to see 50 watts. that's all I can come up with so far.

Basically did that in the above paragraphs.
The only thing I wanted to mentioned was that it takes 2 trys to shut the trunk. I am wondering if it is just my Honda, or have other 2001 civics have this problem as well.

Strength:

Smooth ride, nice handling and turning capabilities, brakes well.

Weakness:

WHY did they put the stupid cupholders so close to the CD player? I don't like it either that I have to flip the holders open...if I have my hands full I want to be able to just put the drink down. Stereo is less than stellar, and if you take it out the keyless entry doesn't work.

I havent' had my car for very long. I bought it with 25,000 miles on it and it is 3 years old. I had them "certify" the car for peace of mind. I agree with most Honda owners in saying that the paint scratches way too easily and is prone to door dings. (But, if you take care of the car, that shouldn't be too big of an issue) The seats are a little hard, but what should we expect, this isn't a Lexus or anything. The main reason I bought this car was its reputation of reliability. It is more expensive, but I feel it is worth it to have the peace of mind knowing the car will start each and every morning. I have seen Honda's go 260,000+ miles and God willing that's how far mine will go! I seriously suggest a Civic to anyone, it's a great value!

New sleek body, and roomier interior. engine 1.6 - 1.7 is very noticable power gain.

Weakness:

suspension is very bumpy, 2000 model civics had better suspension. Only gets its power at higher RPM's under 3500 RPM its basically gutless.

personally when i got my civic in the first 3 months i had the computer relay chip , that sends gas tho the engine FRY!! my power steering pump wasn't working, my dashboard and arm rest just fell off!! and a complaint about the Customer Service at Calgary Honda when i got my windshield cracked, the dealership represented very poor management werent helpful at all, they tried fixing the crack it started spreasding and they refused to change it even though they did not repair it properly. Overall i recommend to stay away from the 2001 model, waqit until they fix all their mistakes by 2002

0-60sec....7.62
1/4 mile...16.01@82.64mph /DYNO TESTED
The Motor Trend Magazine says 0-60sec....7.2''1/4..15.7@89.68mph stock. My car is not stock. I can only take it up to 115mph then it shutsdown.

Weakness:

Honda doesn't have that much Reliabilty/Quality as much as it is advertised. Plus Honda is supposed to be the #1 selling car in the whole world and mostly everybody is not satisfied.

The Si is most likely to be like a sporty type car like the INTEGRA GS-R style. The Si has not shown me nothing like being reliable only the gas though. I Drive 80/above and average around 27 mls per gallon tank. I chose The Si cause i'm kinda into sporty cars. Don't choose Honda if you have an oppertunity to get something more highly reccomended. If so choose an accord EX-V6 Stick you can get an combination of sports/family Sedan. An Si is not a family car mostly like a racer type style like myself.
