Honda Civic (2010 and older) Midsize | Compact

DESCRIPTION

The Civic is Honda’s compact car that is offered in sedan and coupe versions. First introduced as a small, inexpensive hatchback in 1972, the Civic has increased in size during its lifetime while continuing to offer excellent fuel economy. The entire Civic line was all-new for 2006.

The basic Civic is available as a sedan and coupe and comes in several trims: DX, DX-VP, LX-S, EX and EX-L. The Civic SI, the performance-oriented trim, offers 57 more horsepower than the base model, a few more performance options and a starting price of around $7,000 more than the base Civic.

The Civic also comes in two eco-friendly options: the Honda Civic Hybrid, which is reviewed separately, and the GX, a hybrid alternative that runs on Compressed Natural Gas. Unfortunately the GX is only sold in California (and other states that have accepted California's Zero-Emission Vehicle regulations). It costs about $10,000 more than a base Civic.

Model Reviewed: Honda Civic Si

Strength:

Very fast, nimble, moves in and out of traffic very quickly (important especially in a city like L.A.) , a very fun car, sweet engine noise.

Weakness:

Lack of quality in materials, simply CANNOT out perform German cars. Weak A/C, Tight interior. It's not a BMW

Overall, the Si is a cool car for someone young and lives in California (like me). Other then that, its not a car to race in just because its the best car out of all the other civics (or Honda for that matter). Reliability is also a someone that you should NOT be worried about when owning a Honda, thats a plus. All in all, my final suggestion to all car buyers is get a BMW if you can afford one, if not, a used. It WILL save ur life in an accident and better yet prevent one.

1987 BMW 325 2 door. This is the best car iv ever owned, not because its a BMW but because it has 260,000 miles on it and it runs PERFECTLY like new. No problems on it just schedules maintenance. Out handles any Japanese car ANY day of the week twice on sunday. German engineering is simply unbeatable.

Strength:

Excellent handling, powerfull, good looking, comfortable and never broken.

Weakness:

The doors are heavy and the doorlocks are cheap.

My Honda Civic is the best car I have tried. The engine is powerfull, the transmission works well. It's an excellent car for the category. Also, it's a car that won't break, even if it has a high mileage.

Strength:

Good looks, ABS, power everything, moonroof, cruise, low gas mileage

Weakness:

no side air bags, slow acceleration, awful sound system

Paid $16,800 (tax excluded) for a 2000 Civic EX with the appearance package and automatic transmission. It's a car that would be around for a long time if properly maintained. Highly recommended for college students and is a great second family car.

Similar Products Used:

2000 corolla - almost the same gas mileage. The LE model I used doesn't have ABS, moonroof, side airbags but are optional and are too expensive. Also, the 2000 Corolla LE's interior and exterior looks and designs does't
have any appeal in it.

Strength:

This is a great car! It will run forever if you treat it right. Sporty, great handling and gas mileage.

Weakness:

The hood rusted through in spots and then in chunks. Had to have it painted and then did the same thing.

I bought this car used in 1994 for $9,000. Thought it was high, but the resale value on this car is great. Now has $138,000 miles on it and in spite of the rust problems on the hood, it still runs and looks great. Had few maintenance problems...computer went out one time, but I got a used one and haven't had problems since.

I love to drive this car. It handles well and never had any problems starting. Gas mileages is wonderful. Great space inside for four people. Not great for really large people. Trunk space is great.

I am currently trading mine in, mainly due to the rusting problems, but I would buy a Honda anyday of the week.

Strength:

Quick and Responsive. A lot of room in the back for legs, not much head room for tall people. Plenty of room in front for all types of people. Great resale value. Parts and maintainance are good, cheap, and easy to find, although rarely needed. Also great gas milage. Also great of aftermarket additions, all types of parts and audio equipment fit into the civic, same goes for performance additions. Trunk space is also good.

Weakness:

The head room in the back could use some fixing.

A great price, averaging from 9K to 18K for a new car. Getting the higher trim is a good deal, paying the higher price pays off when you don't feel like using energy to roll up the window. I would defintely recommend this car, any trim. Last comment, this car is very reliable as long as u take car of it, it will last a good 10-15 years.

Similar Products Used:

I've driven other cars and the civic seems more sturdier than most. The gear shifting is much smoother. The different functions and room make this car the best compact, cheap car i've ever been in. The combination of all these features and great gas milage make this car a great value.

Model Reviewed: Honda Civic EX coupe

Strength:

Styling, reliability, placement of controls, instrument cluster easy to read. good visibility from drivers seat. large trunk, 2 rear cup holders,
smooth ride

Weakness:

placement of sunroof controls on left side of dash, cup holders not deep enough, storage bin under radio lacks closeable cover. road noise, no ashtray, air conditioner not strong enough for hot, humid Tn summers, not enough low end tourque

I bought the Civic because of it's reputation as a best buy for so many years. Eventhough the car is being redesigned for 2001 the carrent model is still the best small car on the market. I get about 34-36 mpg. The 5 speed manual is easy to use and seems to bring more out of the engine than the automatic. The sheet metal seems to be a little thin and is very easily dented. When I purchased the car there were some scrates on the hood and trunk lid but the dealer quickly fixed that problem. Anyone looking for a reliable small car should put the Civic at the top of their list.

Quality, ext look, after parts galore! Fun to drive. Solid build quality. Lots of room inside for a 2 door. RELIABLE!

Weakness:

Engine is sohc vtec - HP is about 125 stock - I've dont lots of blot on mods and still don't have the power I'm looking for. But the engine now has 105000 miles on it. Maybe I expect too much.

Get car, lots of them to choose from. Will probably run forever. Plan do do engine mods if you want lots of power - maybe turboit.

Model Reviewed: Honda Civic EX Sedan

Strength:

Excellent Gas Mileage
Nice Room in Cockpit
Good Amount of Room in Back Seat (which is lacking in many compact cars)
Smooth Ride on Highway, especially on Cruise Control
Quality Sound System for a Compact Car
Suspension System is Outstanding
Excellent Manuveurability (due to short turning radius)
Great Slant set-up for controls for easy access without reaching
I Love the low cowl for an excellent view of the road

Weakness:

Cupholders Too Close to Tape Deck
Engine is Weaker at Lower Speeds (Make much noise when accelerating)
Brakes are Average
Doesn't have the sporty appeal of other compacts, only functionality
Cassette player is an option, while moonroof is standard. What's that?
Seats are not as soft as they could be.

For my first time having a car, I did pretty well! When I got my first real job out of college, I needed a car. I did plenty of research via the internet on compact cars.

I initially planned on the Dodge Neon. It was inexpensive. It looked cute. It was a care tailor-made for people on a budget. However, I had a friend who told me his brother's Neon was stolen 3 TIMES and recovered. Obviously, it was a highly-stolen car. I also heard about questionable reliablility histories. I decided against that.

I asked a colleague at work to sit inside of her 1996 Chevy Cavalier. It felt too heavy just sitting in it. The cowl was too high. I decided against that. I had no interest in a Ford Escort. I then heard bad reviews about American compact cars and their reliability. I then set my sights on a foreign-made car.

I looked at a Toyota Corolla. I found the cockpit too small when I sat in it. The accelerator pedal and brake pedal were too close. I only looked over a Volkswagen Jetta. The back seat seemed far too cramped when looking into the car.

Finally, there was the Honda Civic. I asked someone at my work who owns a 1996 Civic could I sit in the cockpit. It felt comfortable. I then decided to go buy a Civic. I've had my car for over two years now. This car is smooth, and fuel efficient.

On a side note, I decided to go to a Dodge dealership and test drive a 1999 Dodge Neon. It felt horrible. I guess that after two years of driving a high-quality car like a Honda Civic, a Neon seems like a piece of junk. That experience makes me appreciate the Civic.

Strength:

Very crashworthy body and chassis, excellent resale (however I won't sell it,) Sporty design for a compact Coupe, creature comforts standard on EX, Great gas mileage, Stereo with CD in dash with component set-up speakers stock, Power everything (except the seats), my Lab Retriever Loves the Sunroof! Tires are very good and cheap to replace, spacious trunk.

Weakness:

Sheetmetal a little on the thin side so dings show up fairly easy, passanger seat has no adjustments like the driver seat, the Si doesn't come in White!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I paid a little over 16300 for mine, but had to be trucked in from another state to get white coupe with auto tranny. I love this car! I did about 6 months of research and checking for financing before I bought it, needless to say Honda financed it @ 5.9% for 60 months! Really wanted the Si but this car was for my wife, she wanted an auto but if the Si came in white, we'd have one and she'd have to deal with the stick! The DOHC V-Tec is one bad-ass motor, bone stock. I would like to tighten up the suspension alittle but nothing too aggressive. Who knows. If you are thinking about it, buy it, but buy the 2000 cause I really didn't like the pic of the 2001 in a magizine I saw. Thoughts I think...

Strength:

handles great, fun to drive, 35 MPG in the city, cheap to insure, reliable commuter, and easy to maintain.

Weakness:

it dents easily, needs more power (1.5 liter is a bit weak), right window rattles if left cracked open on freeway.

Bought it new in 1992 for $10,800... black color without a/c after almost killing myself on the '88 Prelude (did a 270 on a freeway off ramp curve going 80 mph, didn't hit anything). It's a perfect car for a recent collage grad who should know better than buying a sports car.
oil and filter change every 2,500 miles or every 3 months.
Currently have 103,500 miles on it and I Highly reccomend it.
I want the 2000 Civic as 2001 Civic loses the 3 door model.
