Honda Civic (2010 and older) Midsize | Compact

Honda Civic (2010 and older) Midsize | Compact

DESCRIPTION

The Civic is Honda’s compact car that is offered in sedan and coupe versions. First introduced as a small, inexpensive hatchback in 1972, the Civic has increased in size during its lifetime while continuing to offer excellent fuel economy. The entire Civic line was all-new for 2006.

The basic Civic is available as a sedan and coupe and comes in several trims: DX, DX-VP, LX-S, EX and EX-L. The Civic SI, the performance-oriented trim, offers 57 more horsepower than the base model, a few more performance options and a starting price of around $7,000 more than the base Civic.

The Civic also comes in two eco-friendly options: the Honda Civic Hybrid, which is reviewed separately, and the GX, a hybrid alternative that runs on Compressed Natural Gas. Unfortunately the GX is only sold in California (and other states that have accepted California's Zero-Emission Vehicle regulations). It costs about $10,000 more than a base Civic.

Model Reviewed: Honda Civic SiR (Canadian)

Strength:

Great handling, great power, awesome reliability, exceptional quality, beautiful looks, phenominal resale value

Weakness:

Stock tires are subpar. I knew this before purchase and traded them in immediately.

Great car for the performance minded on a budget who needs five passenger seating and decent trunk space. There are faster cars, there are less expensive cars, but there are NO faster less expensive cars than the Civic Si/SiR.

You need to utilize the upper reaches of the rpm dial to extract maximum performance. There is nothing to it - rev to redline and shift, no problem. Use the slick gearbox, it works great! For those who complain about a lack of torque, learn how to use the upper revs and gearbox and you will have no problem... Same goes for the S2000...

If you are not looking for performance (example - you want an automatic) go with the EX (Canadian Si). The things that make the Si/SiR more expensive will not appeal to non-performance minded people...

Strength:

Good handling, good on-center feel, good gas mileage, driveability, high rev engine

Weakness:

No low rpm torque, noisy at high speed, plastic seats, plastic everything, no right side mirror, no rpm meter, NO 5th gear!

Obviously at $1900 I shouldn't be complaining. bought it at 12500 miles and have put about 30k more without any major problems. Amazingly the car has a very good handling, with very good steering torque (manual) and manageable understeer during hard cornering. Almost no rust, considering it's a Michigan car where winter is sometimes too much for anything. Wished it had more than 70 horses under the hood, but this thing wasnt designed to perform like the S200 or its VTEC cousins.

Model Reviewed: Civic EX coupe 5 speed

Strength:

Nice clean design.
Tons of aftermarkets available.
Nimble handling.
Affordable.
Reliable.
Good resale value.
Quite roomy for a coupe.
Big trunk space for the vehicle size.
Bright headlights.

Weakness:

No torque.
No cassette/CD standard.
Brakes can be better.
Standard tires can be a LOT better (grip, etc)
Thin sheet metal. Dings easily.
Paint scratches easily.
Gas mileage not very good (25 mpg for 75% highway)

If you own this car, you will not be lonely. Everybody and his granny owns one. :) That can be bad and good. Bad, thieves love to steal them. Good, aftermarket parts are abundant.
In this price range, actually Civics have many competitors, from Neons, Corollas/Prisms, Cavaliers, etc. And Civics are priced on the upper part. But with a promise of reliability and good resale value, Civics seem to be a wise choice. It's not the best car of the bunch, though.

Strength:

I liked everything about this car. These cars are vary good on gas mileage. and fun to drive... and also vary easy to turn around in. It turns in like about one lane. I was pretty impreased with that.

Weakness:

nothing everything is great. I just think that Honda needs more colors to choose from. I also drove a automatic Honda EX which sucked it had no power it was really working it's self to go. I had my foot all the way to the floor and we were going like 45 or 50, but when it kicks in it goes. That's the bad part about the automatic..

If you plan on buying a Civic spend a couple more thousand and buy the Si model. I just drove this car once and it was so much fun!!! I just learned how to drive stick and was doughtful on driving a manual transmission, but this car made me want a stick.. If your going to get a car get a stick I'm telling you it's so much fun... The Nissan's are great cars to and they are cheaper. So I would check up on them to.

Strength:

quick nimble ride. looks. cool a$$ dashboard.
It actually has alot of backseat space! Much more than an acura 3.2 TL.

Weakness:

price. my dealer raped me for 19,500. very high demand & low supply in hawaii.
IT GOT RIPPED OFF WITH LESS THAN 2000 MILES!!!
found it 3 days later COMPLETELY stripped.
high RPM at 55 in 5th gear (about 3000)

I would recommend it if you could get it for 16,500. I paid WAY too much for it. I actually wasn't upset when it got stolen. That got rid of the $380 a month payments.
It is a fun car to drive. The Si model is MUCH faster than any of the other models and the dashboard is very nice.

Great car if you can get it alot cheaper than I did.

Strength:

Easy to drive, feels like a little sport car, very reliable, works well also in bad weather condition (snow, rain...)

Weakness:

RUST!!!! Even if you are very careful and take care of your car the rust will kill it!!! But I heard they improved that...

I bought it from my dad 6 years ago and it already had rust on it so I did my best to keep it clean and beautiful (not easy...). This model was really beautiful, more refined than the 2000 version I think. Especially mine, the special edition is all-white and the interior is superb. I've driven and driven this car and it now has 261 000kms!!!! It works pretty well but I really have to sell it now before it starts depreciating ($$$), I drove long distance everyday. I am really gonna miss my little civic, I once drove in 50 inches of snow with it and it went so well! But the rust really bothered me. I am now buying my dads Volkswagen Cabriolet 1992 with NO rust and 80 000kms...We'll see if I can get to 261 000kms on the odometer with this car! Maybe in a few year a new model of civic will catch my eyes...
Civic 1991 SE :It is definetely a good choice to buy this car if you want good quality for your money!

Purchasing a Civic was one of the best deals I've ever made. For an all around good car for your everyday needs, the Civic comes through. Reliable, and fun to drive, it also is economically sound. If you're looking for something that has a little more zip, there are thousands of products for the Civic to boost performance or enhance the look. This way, no two Civics will be exactly alike.

Strength:

Great handling, turns on a dime, peppy, unreal gas mileage, huge interior, spacious trunk, and a fair price, too.

Weakness:

Not extremely fast, and a CD player is not standard.

We got this car brand new for only $13,088 at Riverside Honda, and so far we only have great reports for it. It gets around 34 mpg in town, and 40 mpg on the highway. The rear foot room and head room are superb, and you can go twice as fast around curves than the recommended speed. Nothing but good news for this car! And with Honda's great reliability records, this car will be around for a long, long, time. Buy it!

Strength:

Reliability, economy, versitility

Weakness:

Interior looks cheap.

No real complaints. Honda has done a fine job of packing lots of features into a small car -- while not as nice as the Integra my wife drove before, it's reasonably peppy, very reliable, and has enough room to stuff three adults and two kids in for short distances, or two adults and three kids for longer ones. Carries Christmas trees well on the roof, although at speeds over 50 mph, you can feel the lift!
