Honda Civic (2010 and older) Midsize | Compact

Honda Civic (2010 and older) Midsize | Compact

DESCRIPTION

The Civic is Honda’s compact car that is offered in sedan and coupe versions. First introduced as a small, inexpensive hatchback in 1972, the Civic has increased in size during its lifetime while continuing to offer excellent fuel economy. The entire Civic line was all-new for 2006.

The basic Civic is available as a sedan and coupe and comes in several trims: DX, DX-VP, LX-S, EX and EX-L. The Civic SI, the performance-oriented trim, offers 57 more horsepower than the base model, a few more performance options and a starting price of around $7,000 more than the base Civic.

The Civic also comes in two eco-friendly options: the Honda Civic Hybrid, which is reviewed separately, and the GX, a hybrid alternative that runs on Compressed Natural Gas. Unfortunately the GX is only sold in California (and other states that have accepted California's Zero-Emission Vehicle regulations). It costs about $10,000 more than a base Civic.

Strength:

new style!! more base hp,a great new interior, more torque, small price hike, even better ac!!!

Weakness:

too soon to tell

I have seen the new honda civic and it is cool!!! It should go on sale in august ,is only about $500 more, and is way better than the 2000. Check this out, honda says the base(DX)horsepower is 130! yep, thats more than a 2000 ex. the interior is more modern with larger instrument gauges and newer designs, more plush seats(cool),and is a little roomier. the outside of the new civic isnt what you heard, its actually WAY nicer than the current civic! It honestly looks like a mix of the new accord coup and a small bmw. like I said, way nicer! It also has more torque especially in the lower end(A commen complaint about the more recent civics). If you are thinking about getting a new honda..........THE NEW CIVIC IS HERE!!!

Strength:

Very reliable, great gas mileage, decent acceleration and brakes, good styling, quality interior components.

Weakness:

Steering is slow, 13" wheels are a bit small

I purchased this as a used car from a local dealership. It replaced my 89 Toyota MR2 which was great but very small. Overall acceleration and handeling is pretty good. I have only had to replace the muffler due to rust in Cleveland. Steering however is not the greatest. It is rather slow and requires alot of motion to turn corners. The front brakes were squealing when the pads weren't pressed hard. My excellent mechanic Alternative Solutions Care in Cleveland Heights lubricated and adjusted them for $20 and this fixed them. The rotors and pads were brand new when I bought it with 48k for 7500. It now has 53k.

Model Reviewed: 5D 1.8 VTi

Strength:

Good fit& finish quality, suspension, brakes, handling and first of all - engine - 170 HP virtually the same unit as in Type-R integra! Heaps of power at high-end revs. Just tremendous sporty sound and feel of the engine.

Weakness:

hmmmmm.......just one - lack of low rpms torque

definitely worth spending money for. Thats the model offered just in europe but its unique experience. Well made, typical Honda, practical and powerfull - in PL for 90000 PLN (20000 USD). Maybe saloons with bigger engines have more torque or V6 sound, but 5D 1.8 VTi has phenomenal ability to scream like a race car and the feel when revs are rising is just unbeatable. Needles to say, when I race sometimes I do experience the same advantage as many of Honda VTEC users - the car which is eager to race quickly gets out of breath and have to switch upper gear - at the same time my engine is around 5000 or 6000 rpm and literally starts to run, after that I can see competitor in the mirror (regardless of the make - BMW, Audi, Toyota...whatever you want)

Highly recommended H

fun, great gas mileage, handles well, reliable.

Weakness:

seats are a little uncomfortable

what can I say. It's a great car. A good car to upgrade, but it's still pretty fun stock, especially in manual. Gets very good gas mileage, and handles well. Also, honda's a very reliable. Especially the civic. all around good car for anyone.
the only problem is that the seats are a little uncomfortable. But I can live with them. I would recommend this car.

Hondas are very reliable cars this car has been inmy family for 10 years Weve had about $1500 of maintanance done (not bad for 10 years) clean durable and fun to drive.

Weakness:

No Low end torque. Small tires. if there's more than 2 people or you have the air on forget about acceleration

$6500 when first purchased. Is a great value. Just got a new stereo system that just makes it that much more fun. I would recomend this car to first time drivers as a safe afordable car. The hatchback is very convienient. Besides the lack of Power it drives well. Comfortable and roomy back seat. Good breaking and steering.

Strength:

Gutsy little car, more than my mom's 94 Neon or her 89 Tercel. The MOST comfortable seats I've had in a smaller non-performance car. Great mileage, couldn't kill the darned thing. I drove that thing to Tucson, Az and back several times, and also to Vegas from there, and even to Texas with no probs. Winter starts were not an issue, but it was a mild winter. GREAT backseat room for a compact, and big trunk too!

Weakness:

It was 15 years old, so it started failing. I rebuilt the engine, replaced a CV Boot (it was always going through those things), and replaced the ignitors though, and it was good to go. It was carburated, so I could change the sparks myself and do the oil change myself, which is harder with the fuel injected models. The A/C produced MAJOR drain on the engine though, and the fan was weak. Could have just been age, but thought I'd let you know. Also, the vinyl headliner did NOT stand up well to the sun. Cracks all over! Soft as butter now! The dash was ok though, and the seats were nice and soft still in the front.

I paid 1500$US for it in June 1999, and I sold it for $1400US in June 2000, so I'd say it did me pretty well. Unfortunately, my year was the year it needed the engine redone, but I think paying 1500$US for repairs in a year is worth about 20,000miles of hard travelling. :) I just today bought a 97 Civic EX-G, and I'm already in love with it. So yes, I would definitely recommend this car to anyone. I paid 15,800$Cdn for the EX-G before taxes.

Similar Products Used:

89 Tercel - not as comfy and not as gutsy, and WAY less trunk space
94 Neon - handles like a log, not as good mileage, not as comfy, but more space.
78 Acadian/Chevette - sluggish but just as powerful, similar probs with vinyl headliner, only a 2 door, so smaller backseat

Strength:

It's been a great and economical car. It's may not have the muscle that I would have liked, but I've had it for nearly 4 years and haven't had a single mechanical problem. The base stereo sounds pretty good to boot.

Weakness:

Nothing actually comes to mind.

I originally leased it with no money down for $255/month (I think the sticker was about $16000). I then bought it out at the end of the lease and have just sold it (actually trade-in for a Subaru Forester) for $8000.

Strength:

EXCELLENT gas mileage (this trim has a 10 gallon tank and it gets ~380miles)
Manual transmission super easy to use, good for teaching beginners
Bulletproof reliability
Even though it has 70hp, the torque is almost the same as DX, EX, and Si, only at a lower rpm (2000rpm) so it has enough pick up speed.

Weakness:

Road noise (2100lb car, they dont put enough soundproof)
Tiny 13" tires (165mm width...pleh!)
Brakes dont feel secure

First of all, this is a super economy car, its like a Geo Metro...but from Honda so its better. The gas mileage is excellent. But it does have its downside, there's quite a bit of roadnoise on the freeway so you better add aftermarket speakers if you wanna listen to music. Although it has a puny and laughable 70horse powers, the car itself weigh 2100 pounds and i managed to get 97mph on the freeway with a passenger. It has 90 lbs of torque @2000rpm, as opposed to 92lb@4400rpm for the EX/Si engine so it feels just as or even more nimble. Thats about it.. I love pumping gas in this thing hahahahah. Oh yeah, I got a $3 can of Milano Red paint from Kragens to color-match the door handles and side mirrors so the car doesn't look that cheap. It's all good.

Strength:

Reliability - never a problem, ever. Gas mileage (I had the DX HB) around 40mpg. Cheap parts (wheels were stolen.. $40 to replace each). Great car for high school/college student or first car. Decent driveability with 5-speed.

Weakness:

Trunk space, performance (what do you expect for $12K?).

$12K new and I got the DX HB with one option: A/C. I was just starting a new job and needed wheels. It got my to my current car, an Audi A4, which is an AMAZING car. I like German cars personally, but this little guy held up to the Honda = bulletproof claim.

It is NOT a performance car (except for the Si). I don't see why some people think that adding a big pipe and rims will make this a sports car. It is a reliable, economy car.
