Honda Civic (2010 and older) Midsize | Compact

DESCRIPTION

The Civic is Honda’s compact car that is offered in sedan and coupe versions. First introduced as a small, inexpensive hatchback in 1972, the Civic has increased in size during its lifetime while continuing to offer excellent fuel economy. The entire Civic line was all-new for 2006.

The basic Civic is available as a sedan and coupe and comes in several trims: DX, DX-VP, LX-S, EX and EX-L. The Civic SI, the performance-oriented trim, offers 57 more horsepower than the base model, a few more performance options and a starting price of around $7,000 more than the base Civic.

The Civic also comes in two eco-friendly options: the Honda Civic Hybrid, which is reviewed separately, and the GX, a hybrid alternative that runs on Compressed Natural Gas. Unfortunately the GX is only sold in California (and other states that have accepted California's Zero-Emission Vehicle regulations). It costs about $10,000 more than a base Civic.

Strength:

Great reliability and cold starts. Acoustically designed. The stock intake and exhaust headers are better then most aftermarket brands. Very easy to customize. Can make a U-turn in a 2 lane. Great fun.

Weakness:

Gas mileage since I've installed my supercharger and exhaust kit. Before it used to be great. I wish they came with wider wheelwells, narrows down the selection of aftermarket wheels you can install with out them rubbing on the inside.

$9,600. Great value, I bought it used with 11,000 miles on it and 2 years old. I've been very happy with it, especially when i saw the difference of how it starts in winder compared to other cars. I live in WI, so it is cold here. The supercharger (a 8 psi positive boost) made good difference, definately recommend getting one with the exhaust upgrade at the same time, improves mileage greatly! Overall, GREAT car.

Bad Ass Car. It is so much fun to drive. Before this car i have been getting a new car every year. I think this one is a keeper. I get many compliments on the car and its performance. I like the idea of comming with the moonroof too, that is a plus!!!

Weakness:

Well let's see, low end tourque is 1. I love the color of mine but for other drivers, i think there should be a few more optional colors, silver is a def. and i bet they'd sell if it came in yellow. I heard a rumor about the clutches going around 10K-20K. I would believe this because i think an EX clutch is thrown in to save on cost, which is BS. I am buying a car with 160 horses and getting a wimpy clutch. I dunno what some of you people are talking about either with gas mileage take my advice: Don't red line the car every time and shift i bet if it is driven "properly" your gas mileage will be at 26/gal. not 20. I use to have an 89 mustang GT runnin 11's in the 1/4 mile and i got better gas mileage then 20mpg.
Last weekness, this car def. should have 6 gears.

Great Car. Never had a honda, now i am glad i do. Fords are great but i needed a change. I spent only $500 above the invoice (Beat that). But that wasn't counting options. i pay out the A$$ a month though but it is totally worth it. Anyone considering an SI, GET IT!!! unless You can afford a Prelude or BMW. For the value rating i give it 4 stars because it needs 6 gears not 5.

Strength:

I like the fact that the depreciation is slower than most cars. It has power about 4,000-6,000 rpm range, expecially 2nd gear--easily make 40-45 mph in 2nd. Reliable, no repairs in 20 months. Decent gas mileage.

Weakness:

Cup holders block the cassette and/or CD player when open. Shifting isn't always smooth. Wind blows the car on the highway sometimes.

I paid $16,800 fully loaded with ABS, Cruise, Moon Roof, Tilt Steering, Power windows, Power locks. AM/FM Cassette.
I would highly recommend the car if you can afford the high price tag.

Gas Milage, Transmission (shifts very smooth), Reliability, Looks, OK power for a 1.5 LTR 4-cyl

Weakness:

Expensive to repair, no center console,cup holders are in the way of the coin box. A/C was a very expensive option(dealer wanted $1600) No, I didn't buy it.

I paid $11,500 which was $700 under MSRP, but only because that was the only way the dealer would finance me. This has been the best car that I have ever owned. It has been so dependable that I probably won't buy anything else in years to come. I have 111, 500 miles on it and it runs like new, and that's without taking good or even appropiate care of it. I like the power for a small engine, it can't compare to a V6, but it is no Metro either. It will merge into traffic OK, although going uphill is another story, it'll go up with some authority, but it isn't safe to pass anybody. I have driven an automatic and it is even worse, I wouldn't get aoutomatic with a Civic. Gas milage has been great, I recently went to LAX and averaged over 40 MPG, not bad after 111,500 mi. I would recommed this car to anybody, the sedans are also pretty nice, but, not automatic. I can't wait until the new models come out, I have seen some sketches and they look pretty nice. Also, Honda UK, has several different models, including a Civic Wagon which by the way it looked, that may be the new style and I could live with it, although they an option of a 1.8 LTR engine VTEC that might be coming to the the US. Can't wait.

Weakness:

Seats sit up soooo high( i am 5'6 female) My hair touches moonroof.Need long arms to reach shifter, Arm rest in middle is too low,and window arm rest not at right height either.

Price paid: 17,700- most dealers I talked to in Seattle wouldnt go below 18,000. I would recomend it to people who like the reliability of a Honda with a nice looking stand out from the normal civic crowd.

Strength:

* Fuel economy
* Great in the city
* One good looking car

Weakness:

* Paint around wheelwells seems prone to stone chips
* You really do notice it when there's more than two
people in the car (slow acceleration)

I would recommend this great little car to pretty much anyone. It's great in the city where the parking spaces are getting smaller every time they repaint the lines. It fills all my needs which include sometimes actually carrying four people in the car (ughh). It's not happy about it but once it gets up to speed everything is fine. The brakes could use a little work but being a Civic there are plenty of aftermarket parts available for it and once the original disks wear out (or warp) I will replace them with slotted rotors. Other than that it's a great car! My next car will be a Honda (Si) or possibly an Accord (but Honda all the way!)

Sporty styling. The 127hp engine is a tad enemic under 4000 rpms, but perks up after that. Decent gas mileage. Lots of nice standards: power everything, sunroof, tachometer, ac, 6 speaker cd.

Weakness:

Was a bit pricey with an automatic. Wish I'd gotten a 5 speed, so I could get more power out of it, oh well. The wheelcovers just dont cut it. I recently upgraded to SI rims. Seats are too high. Suspension needs a lil tuning, perhaps lowered a tad.

Lil pricey but very reliable small car transportation. Perfect college student vehicle. I recommend you shell out the extra $1500 and get the SI model though, you get alot more: rims, 4 wheel disk brakes, 160hp engine, better suspension, front chin spoiler.

Strength:

Engine, handling.

Weakness:

Slightly high center of gravity, uncharacteristic (for Honda) rattles and squeaks, no low end torque.

I needed a commuter car that was enjoyable to drive, that I wouldn't have to worry about leaving parked all day in a lightly patrolled parking lot, less than 20k. I narrowed it down to a VW GTI and the Si. I was leaning towards the GTI but the fact that the Honda dealership is much closer and that the Honda service department in my area is superb narrowed it to the Honda. I paid 18,100.00 including destination, options and taxes. Having owned the car about two months I'd list the pros and cons as follows:

Pros: GREAT engine. The only thing keeping it from hall of fame status is that you have to keep the engine spinning at above 4 grand to fully take advantage of what it has to offer. Below 4 grand it's a little weak. Beyond 4 grand up to the limited 8 grand red line the engine sings like a Ferarri, pulls like a strong six. Great transmission. Tight, quick throws. Excellent handling. It's center of gravity is significantly higher than a '90 Civic EX I owned. In absolute terms the Si handles better than the '90 however the '90 FELT like it handled better. The '90's lower center of gravity was a trade off. It was a great handling car but it sat so low every dip and bump would bottom the suspension - I have yet to bottom the Si's suspension. The seats in the Si took a little getting used to. They're height and tilt adjustable but I found them to be uncomfortable for a couple weeks - until I got used to them I guess. The seat bottoms are wider and flatter than other similar cars I've owned and driven in. Probably a concession to the wider American butt. Excellent climate control system. OK six speaker stereo. Fairly roomy rear seat compared to similar cars. Tons of aftermarket parts.

Cons: UnHonda-like squeaks and rattles. Cross winds will move this model around more than other small cars I've driven. A '90 EX I owned seemed to be crosswind proof. No low end torque. The car's a teen magnet. Everywhere I drive, kids stare, blast past me as if challenging me to race, god knows what else.

That's it. One word of warning: There wasn't much negotiating with the price. The dealer hold back is only two percent. They wouldn't give any of it up nor would they back off much from MSRP. The one place you can save money right off the bat is by deleting the following three 'options'. I say 'options' because the throw them in without asking and in my area charge criminally high prices - $295.00 each for mats, rubber wheel well molding and mud flaps - almost a thousand bucks for what Honda America's website - www.honda2000.com - shows at about a third the cost including installation. Order the parts from Honda America or any of many aftermarket sources and save yourself 7 or 8 hundred bucks.

What don't I like? It's got style, reliability, pretty quick little engine, I just like everything about it.

Weakness:

My only problem with the car is that it gets little knicks and scratchs easily

This is my second car and it is a step above my first car in every way imaginable. My first car was just a basic little car. No A/C, no power steering, Vinyl interior(which gets hotter then anything in the summer!), you name it and that car didn't have it.
I've read the reviews summited by others and I agree in all the possitive parts. The seats I found to be very comfortable (if you drove my Colt then you'd understand). The handling is just amazing. I'm a college student and I use that car a lot. It's got 63,000 on it and it still looks and runs like brand new.
I test drove many otehr cars and read reviews. I know people who own Chevy Caviliers and have had various problems with them. The Honda was clearly my best choice and I would recommend this car to anyone.
