Strength:

Great top end 120mph+ on stock engine with auto tranny. Twisting mountain roads are no sweat at 30 over the posted limit. Targa top is great. Roll down back window also great. Lots of room once you get in the car. Very reliable, great milage. Even when getting on it. If you keep the car clean and follow the instructions about keeping the roof seals lubed it wont leak or rattle. Very fun to drive!

Weakness:

Hard to get in. Automatic is a little soft off the line. No where to put my skis or golf clubs. It's easy to find yourself going 80 without realizing it.

I drive my del Sol all over Colorado. It's fine in the snow. On dry mountain roads this car handles great. The worst milage I've gotten is 27mpg on a 100mph+ trip from Dever to Colorado Springs. Normally it gets at least 32mpg. My del Sol doesn't squeak, rattle or leak. The blind spot isn't all that bad either. To bad they quit making them. Everyone that has ridden in my car is suprised to find out that it only has a four cylinder engine.

where do I start?? I love this car! i got a red Del Sol S, i about went for the Si or VTEC but i decided to go cheap! anyway i love this car! The removable roof, if AWESOME, and also the electric back window, its down like every time i get in!

Weakness:

The only thing I dont like is the rear wings, behind the door. they get in the way when backing up in a parking lot.

I love the SOl and i recomend it to ANYONE! i give it 5 stars! it is awesome, if your shopping for a car, at least give it a test drive, I think you will love it! My roof hasnt leaked yet. I put vaseline on it like monthly to keep the seals moist, try that if your top is leaking. GREAT CAR

Strength:

Vast amounts of aftermarket goodies for both performance (Greddy Turbo Kit or jackson racing supercharger) and style. Great gas mileage and looks. Targa top and big trunk space. Sliding rear windows. The seats are awesome. Great handling.

Weakness:

The cup holders and sun visors are useless. I got the automatic tranny, wish it was 5 speed. Mine came with the Single cam vtec(d16z6 motor), wish it was the twin cam one. No trunk lid release. hard to get in and out of at times. Hard to find space in the cab for a subwoofer.

I love this car. great gas mileage and it runs great. oh, its got 100k miles on da motor and not a knock on it! no leaks either and still smooth idling. pretty quick for an automatic. added a k&n intake and dc sport headers DTM exhaust. helped it out a bit. planning on a jackosonracing supercharger. oh, the car is lowered with 17" rims and low-pros. looks awesome!! handles awesome!! drives awesome!!

i think the ultimate comparison for this car are the mazda miata and the new honda s2000. driven the miata, i liked the short shift throws on the miata (compared to my automatic tranny) never driven the s2000. the new toyota mr-2 spyder might do well against the sol but for the price, i'd get the del sol.

Strength:

The unique looks of the car, the performance upgrades that are available for the Del Sol and the idea that i will never see 5 or 6 del sol's parked in the same parking lot.

Weakness:

The 1.6 L engine is weak in its stock form. It took alot of modifications for me to get my sol over 200 Hp.(and alot of money). The widndows seals leak in the rain and the windows fog up to much in the colder weather.

I would definitly recommend this car if you like roadsters and If you are intrested in fixing up low horsepower cars and making them monsters.

I test drove an toyota MR2 and a Honda Prelude. To the MR2 it handles a little better and to the prelude it is alot cheaper.

First of all, totally fun to drive. Takes corners well...great on gas...and surprisingly, is very comfortable on long trips. The interior is absolutely gorgeous, and laid out beautifully. One gets a very "cozy" feeling while in the drivers seat. Mileage is unbelieveable..in city as well as highway.Plus, if you happen to be a single person...this car is still a real head turner! Oh, and did I mention reliable?? Had the car over three years...0 problems!!

Weakness:

A somewhat annoying blind spot for the rear view mirror, due to the pillars on the side.

Highly recommended...dependable,attractive,and a gas miser.

Miata is the main competition...test drove one and there was just no comparison.

Strength:

The Del Sol is a very interesting car, totally unique in the sense that it was such a radical departure from Honda's image. It lives up to Honda's standards of reliabilty and is incredibly fun to drive.

Weakness:

The structural integrity is a bit weak, lots of squeaks and rattles due to the open top design.

When I bought this car in 93, it was one of only 6 available in the state, a bright Samba Green SiR (which became the VTEC in 94 I believe).
Anyways, people would actually stop in the middle of the road and stare, noone had ever seen anything like it. Everytime I came out of a store, people would be gathered around it. Even 7 years later Del Sol owners rarely see themselves coming and going and the car still draws looks especially with the top down. So I would definately recommend this car to anyone looking for a unique ride with an interest in the nostlagic roadster experience. Oh yeah, It's a great chick magnet too!

Designed to rival the Miata, which in my opinion are only driven by gay men and divorced women.

Strength:

Fast, handles well, I LOVE to take corners in this car, and it's very comfortable. A convertible-hardtop hybrid. The interior is also quite beautiful, red and black, which happens to match the awesome Sony XPlod 7000x sound system (definitely NOT standard equipment!). :) Mine has a white exterior with a spoiler, and it looks a bit like a racing yacht adapted for the open road! Women like my car. There's nothing extra on the dashboard, everything you need is there and easy to see/get to. I personally like the cruise control and power locks and windows.

Weakness:

A pretty bad blind spot, virtually useless sun-visors, and the cup holder stinks. That's it. None of these things stopped me from buying it!

I recommend this car to anyone who wants the economy of a Civic but the style of a sports car. I get around 37mpg overall.

Overall the only other car I have any experience with that compares to this is the Miata, and there simply was no indecision for me. I prefer the targa top and the feel of this car over the Miata, and I am VERY glad I bought the Honda instead of the Mazda. I always wanted an MG when I was a teenager but never even drove one. Now I know why!

Strength:

This car is perfect for people (especially teens) who want a good, reliable sports car but can't afford anything too pricy. It has decent power, it's great on gas, looks good, and is good for just about any sized person (I'm 6 foot 1). Girls LOVE it.

Weakness:

The trunk is a bit small, so if you want to put something big or a subwoofer in you have to do a bit of work. The top also squeeks every once and a while, but isn't really noticeable. It's also a 2 seater and really isn't good for carrying more than 2 people (trust me, I know this from experience).

I love my Del Sol and urge anyone who wants to own a Honda other than a Civic or Accord to buy one. It has good power, girls dig it, it's cheap, it looks good (even for a 93), and has plenty of room for improvement for those of you who want to pimp out your ride. The only problem that I really have is the small trunk limits what type of subwoofers you want, unless you want to dish out tons of cash on a custom box. Otherwise, this car is very cool and you definetly don't see tons of them on the road, unlike many other imports.

Similar Products Used:

I've driven a few Mazda Miatas (the Del Sol's arch rival) and the Del Sol is a bit weaker because it is front wheel drive. I still like the Del Sol better because it is cheaper on initial price, gas, and insurance.

Model Reviewed: Civic Del Sol S

Strength:

It was FAST!!! My Del sol lasted for 8 wonderful years without any major problems. It refused to start once in all that time. It would easily push 90 MPH on the highway. Maintenance was extremely low. I never planned on getting rid of this car. The rear window going up and down was great. It sure baffled people when I would roll it down. Trunk space was amazingly large in comparison to the size of the vehicle.

Weakness:

Anyone larger than average had problems getting in or out. Cop magnet =)Not so great in Michigan snowstorms. WATCH OUT FOR DEFOGGER. It does NOT work adequately. Expensive parts (but arent all foriegn parts for discontinued models?) I was concerned that in both accidents I have seen with Del Sols the airbag never came out, but both were side impact and that probably is the reason.

My Del Sol (the 118th EVER made) met its end this week of December 5th when it hit black ice, spun out across 2 lanes of oncoming traffic, and half rolled into a ditch (I was traveling a good 70 MPH when it happened) The defogger was NOT working that day and ultimately lead to the end of this car. My sister had a matching black '95 Del Sol S that succumbed 6 weeks earlier. My sister, my brother (who was with me in my accident) and I all came out alive from very bad accidents in these cars. My sister had a broken collar bone from hers, and I suffered 2 scratches and a bruise. For such a small car it sure took that impact well. My Del Sol was pushing 80,000 miles and was running like clock work. I had to replace the exhaust and front brakes last summer, but it was an old car. If you want a teenie little sports car that is dependable, low maintenance and fun to drive the Del Sol is a great buy...if you can find one. If you want a powerful sports car to edge out vehicles that cost more than some houses find a car in that price class. If I lived in a place without snow and ice I'd buy one again without hesitation. I plan to purchase a Honda with 4 wheel drive to replace the Del Sol.

Strength:

This is a fun car to drive from the get go. It is unique in style and for it's size lots of room in the cockpit and trunk, more than enough.

Weakness:

Unfortunately I have the standard engine and it lacks power. I have not seen much aftermarket parts to perk it up. If anyone knows of reliable after market parts, e me. The heater in cold weather lacks.

I would recommend anyone to buy one, it is a good second car.
