Strength:

Super Fast, reliable!! - I race this car on the track, am hard on the engine, but ive driven 14,000 miles and not a hint of problems.

Weakness:

People say its heavy but you need the weight to support high HP, I think it is fine. THe back seat is cramped but ive sat in it, and its not as bad as other sport cars. Ohh Yah, i change my friken oil every 800 miles.(synthetic)

Amazing Machine, you dont apreciate this car until you shift regularly at 7500 rpm, right befor the redline.
I have invested in a Jackson Racing Supercharger, DC sports headers, cold air intake, Catback exhaust, Vtec controller, iridium plugs, and upgraded camshafts and pistons, as well as a 100 shot of nos. Had to replase rotars and bigger brakes. (although stock ones are very good).
THIS CAR IS THE FASTEST CAR ON THE STREETS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Forget an M3, do what i did and you can challange 395hp ferrari spiders!
This is the fastest car ever.

smoked a stock nsx, cant touch supercharged/turbocharged/nos nsx's
Integras are jokes, even type R. (actually I have high respect for a type r I raced with a custom stage 4 turbo plus a little squekin of nos. It gave me a run for my money, but thats a rare exception.)

Civics are great, but not against the prelude, (even stock).

Eclipses are slugish.

Tiburon!!!! That is the most stupud thing ive heard, i didnt even now it was considered a car that goes fast. I thought it was like a geo metro or somthing.

No stock cars.(any make) of course theires 200,000 dollar cars that will blow my doors off, but they dont count. I only spend 10,000 more, for my car.

Almost the Integra, and once a Subaru WRX, it was turboed or something, it was hella fast. Stock oneds are stupid thoug.

Anyway, Buy this Car, If you want more power than the more than enough 200, its hella easy to get aftermarket parts. You can smoke anything, and keep the engine in working condition.

My car has a black widow kit and all the cosmetics, (you can win shows with this beauty!!!)

Spend the 25,000!!!

Thats easy : Brrrumm brummm, the engine is UNBELIEVEBLE, hendaling is Superior to any other car under 30k, Styling (chix dig it), and just about anythink about that car. If u're under 30 years old U GOTTA LUV the V-Tec sound when it kicks in :)

Weakness:

Back seats, trunk, paint quality (don't buy black, it WILL reveal ANY little scratch). Take good care of this car and it will never disappoint u.

Young people out there - SAVE your cash, get a Lude!!! If u think there is any other car to consider , stop thinking . The lude is a pimp mobile of this next millenium people !!! I can't imagine any other car that will provide me with so much satisfaction :) This car won't let u down. I drove alot of other vehicules and I must say that I felt in love with the Lude. LUDE 4 LIFE. It's worth to pay that extra bucks for a car that will satisfy your driving needs. Honda gets a BRAVO for the Ludes, all the generations. I must say that I haven't seen alot of 15 to 20 years old pontiacs or Chevys (under 30k) but I did Hondas so that is a living proof of Honda superb quality . Go get ONE NOW !!!!!!!!!

99 Carrera 911 - Hmmmm, I would prefer to put that extra 70 000$ in some serious mods of my lude and IT WILL outperform the supa dupa Porsche.

Model Reviewed: Prelude 5 speed

Strength:

Its a Honda! Quality "feel" to switchgear. Handling is first rate! Sweet, sweet VTEC!

Weakness:

lacks options that most of us that can afford the price of the Prelude want on their cars. No headroom, even for short people! Poor placement of cupholders when you have the 5 speed. Delicate "feel" to sheetmetal. Quality issues on a Honda?

I have owned several Honda's, an '81 Civic Wagon, '91 CRX Si, a '96 Integra GSR and a '99 Prelude. I bought all of them new. The CRX was the best car I have ever owned. I traded my CRX for the Prelude.

Having always had great experience' with Honda's, I decided to stick with a good thing. I looked @ the Accord Coupe, but decided it was too popular. I bought the base model Prelude with a 5 speed tranny because I wanted the extra 5 horses the manual has over the auto (200 vs. 195 bhp). I also didn't want the trick suspension the Type SH comes with.

I guess I bought this car too late in life. No doubt about it, it is a great car to own, if your about 22, single and short. Living in a large city (Houston) with dreadful traffic, the 5 speed (though sweet) has been a poor choice. In the City, I rarely get out of 3rd gear because of the heavy traffic, so the constant shifting and clutch work grows tiresome.

Inside, the front seats are comfortable (firm & supportive)in a grippy/sturdy black fabric. You have a choice of interior colors as long as its black. Switch gear and instruments are clear and have that great "quality" feel to them.

Considering the Preludes price, it would be nice to have had automatic climate control. The air conditioning and heat perform well, although the switchgear design is an older looking slider design vs knobs.

Getting into and out of the car isn't easy for my 39 year old body. The drivers seat comes with a manual height adjuster, which I have found to be useless since headroom is lacking no matter how I adjust the seat.

With the 5 speed, if you have anything other than a small can in the cup holder(s), the drink will be in the way of shifting the gears. I always end up putting the drink between my legs!

The back seat is not as bad as your told in most reviews (as long as your under 5'8). Getting in and out of it is a chore, but the front passenger seat slides forward to allow easier entry. There is even 1 cup holder back there!

The base stereo CD sounds great to me!

As earlier stated, the option list for this car is limited. It comes standard with what I consider the basic "luxury" items, power windows, locks, mirrors, and moonroof. You can't get leather, the previously mentioned automatic climate control, a garage door opener in the visor and side airbags.

Truck space is good (considering) and you can lay the back seat down providing even more room.

Handling is this cars forte. Its ride is above par for a small sporty car, and it feels stable on most road surfaces. Road noise is fairly limited and much less than in our Integra.

I read complaints about lack of low end power in Honda's. I wouldn't want it any other way...I love to "VTEC" my car...the feeling of being thrown back into the seat when it kicks in is nearly orgasmic (I said, nearly).

I like the conservative exterior design. I love the front end, especially the headlights. Side profile is good too, its low and sleek and the alloy wheels are sharp (not hard to clean either)! The rear end is a let down. Its not ugly, just boring.

The exterior sheet metal FEELS delicate. I am careful not to park it near other cars for fear of getting door dings. The paint is easily marred by rocks thrown by those SUV's and trucks...

A few quality issues have surprised me with my car. The weather stripping around the windshield is constantly coming out of place. I have taken it to the dealer on more than one occasion. All they do is put tape on it and let it sit in the sun, which never works for long. My "H" on the back trunk feels like it could fall off @ any minute. It rattles! Rattles began cropping up shortly after I bought it. This is the first Honda I have ever owned that has rattled this bad. I have taken it back to the dealer three times, first they oiled the moonroof gear, then attempted to tighten the PLASTIC (on a 25k car!)roof liner. Last time, they changed the back left strut. Then noises began in the right rear! They replaced the right real coil (!). All under warranty, but still...

These are all minor nit picks that have added up to a somewhat less than stellar experience in the 25 months I have owned the car.
I hate to say it...but its been my least favorite Honda I have owned. If Honda would bring back the CRX, I would be first in line to buy one!

Really no comparisons...the new Celica is ugly, overdesigned and underpowered. The Eclipse...quality can't match Honda.

Strength:

This must be one of the best looking 87 cars when you put a little time into it. The interior is beautiful and the body shape is not bad.(Most cars of the mid 80s were all boxy). Its speed is ok even after i made several ajustments but 83-91 preludes just were not ment for speed but there looks more than make up for it.

Weakness:

Locks sometimes wont allow you to lock from inside.
My Prelude has been broken into 4 times--they are 83-91 very very easy to steal.

By far i reccomend this car to anyone who wants a good looking and running car at a resonable price. Although you may find problems fitting more than two people into the car and hopefully they are not tall. But the seats are very stylish and comfortable to sit in.

Strength:

Great engine with good top speed. One of the best highway cars I've ever driven
Nimble- excellent for weaving in fast traffic like a highway.
Turning is among the best of class, can easily make turns at 40 km/h
Looks aggressive

Weakness:

too much of a typical Asian car - Steering wheel is loose, high speeds are noisy, poor traction in the winter.
Not enough torque and the Vtec kicks in a little late..not very smooth.
Low rear and blind spot visability
feels very fragile
Cheap and boring interior
Expensive!
Minor problems already

I love Honda cars. They are fast, reliable, good looking, and have unparalelled handling. In some ways, the 2000 Prelude is the perfect reflection of Honda's engineering values. However, while the car is incredibly fun to drive, its nowhere near as enjoyable to ride. The interior is completely void of luxuries, its loud at high speeds, and rear visibility is often difficult.

Now, I may sound like too harsh a critic or as though I want my Honda to be more like a Volvo, but actually we have four Hondas on our driveway so I am quite familiar them and I really do know how to appreciate their strong suits. And those suits are very strong. The 200 HP VTEC is so finely tuned that it is nothing short of a gem. And I can never resist the opportunity to gear down and take a right turn at 50 km/h.

However, I would not strongly recommend this car. Overall, I'll say that the Prelude is a great car that's loads of fun and non-stop excitement, but the price is steep and, after the price tag, there still are a considerable amount of shortcomings that you'll have to overlook.

Similar Products Used:

Integra SE (2000) - prelude is much more powerful overall, but surprisingly the integra at times feels more sturdy. But the Integra is basically for city driving.
Accord 2000 V6 - Accord has more jump(torque), but feels heavly in comparision. Tops out early.
BMW 540i - This car is seems to have no power imit compared to the Prelude, but again, heavier. doesn't have the same handling.

Has very nice dash and is quick up to 110mph. Rides smooth and Handles great. My friends love it and sounds really strong at 4500rpm.

Weakness:

There could be a little more torque and a little more top end. When backing up I can barely see over trunk.

I got mine at an auction for $7000 with 49k miles. It is a really nice car, not many regrets.

NOTHING

I WOULD SAY TO ANYBODY WHO'S LOOKING TO BUY A SPORTS COUPE TO BUY THIS I HAVE HAD MINE FOR NEARLY TWO YEARS AND STILL GET THAT EXITED FEELING WHEN IM GOING FOR A DRIVE.MINE IS A JAPANESE IMPORT WITH ONLY 36000 MILES ON THE CLOCK I HAVE HAD SOME TROUBLE TRYING TO FIND INSURANCE FOR IT AS NOBODY WANT TO INSURE A JAPAN IMPORT ALTHOUGH EUROPEAN IMPORTS ARE OK.
THE ONLY DRAWBACK IS THE REAR SEATS BUT IT IS A SPORTS CAR SO IM NOT BOTHERED.PARTS ARE QUITE RESONABLE EVEN FOR MINE AND THE AFTER SALES SERVICE IS GREAT.WILL NOT BE BUYING THE NEW MODEL AS I THINK THE 4TH GEN MODELS ARE BY FAR THE BEST LOOKING, SO WHEN I WANT TO GET ANOTHER CAR I WILL LOOK FOR ANOTHER ONE AS I THINK THEY WERE ONLY CHANGED IN 97.I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS CAR TO ANY COUPLE'S OR SINGLE PERSON'S BUT NOT VERY GOOD AS A FAMILY CAR AS KIDS WOULD BE CRAMPED IN THE BACK AFTER THE AGE OF FOUR.

Too much plastic.
The paintwork (Milano Red) fades.

This car is fantastic and I would recomend it to anyone, heaps of power and what a sound when the VTEC cuts in.
We have two cars and only use the cheap one (an old Nissan) for work, but when I have to use the Honda it's a REAL TREAT.
