Strength:

Looks great; kind of like a Supra or RX-7. Handles great. While not a VTEC or an Si, it still has a kick to it. (With manual, of course!) Very reliable. A car that I regret selling. (I abused the clutch a little too much. That's what I get, I guess...)

Weakness:

Those rear seats are there for show. (And insurance reasons. I guess its kind of a plus actually!) Don't try to have anyone actually ride in the back seats!

This is probably one of the best cars I have ever driven. Unless you have an exotic supercar in your garage, you will probably find owning one is a blast.

A 1988 Porsche 944 costs about the same. The only difference is the parts on the Prelude are cheaper and easier to get.

Model Reviewed: type SH

Strength:

*5k-7.5k rpm (VTEC :)
*Honda reliability
*Excellent Handling
*The most fun to drive car I have ever been in (well, not counting sports cars over $50K)
*ATTS - For those that don’t know, this is the main difference in standard and type SH (others include rear spoiler and better rims). Automatic Torque Transfer System. Simply, during corners it will make the outside wheel spin faster than the inside, adding increasable cornering characteristics, speed, and control. Returns the characteristic under steer of a front wheel drive car to a much more neutral feel.
*Pretty good mileage. I get about 25-28 mpg on the highway, depending on how much I use cruise control. About 16-19 in the city, depending on how "spirited" I drive. About 6-7 at the tracks.
*Great looks
*Stock rims look nice
*For a sports coupe, it still seems fairly luxurious
*Very smooth shifting
And the little details that can mean so much...
*Many creature comforts like power moon roof, sides and windows (the driver even has an auto down), tilting steering wheel, cruise, above average stereo system, etc.
*Dual airbags
*Folding back seats
*Good ol Honda ergonomic layout

Weakness:

Note that I do not consider these weaknesses as they do not weigh heavily with me, but others should be aware incase these are an issue.
*Leather is not an option (I believe that the Canadian model comes with leather standard. I don’t live in Canada, so verify for yourself before trusting me on this one).
*There is no choice for an auto transmission (but you wouldn't be looking for an auto if you opt for the SH).
*Can be a rough ride on bumpy roads... but this is a sports car. I would call the suspension 'lively.'
*No power seats
*Small trunk
*Small back seats (but hey, I am driver :)

*The only weakness that bothers me is, for a sports car, it is a little on the heavy side. It tips the scales at a little over 3000 lbs.

I would recommend a Prelude to any sports car enthusiast looking for a fun ride. Keep in mind that it does not make for a good family car, seeing as it is 2 doors and cramped back seats. The SH is probably overkill for the average consumer, but if you are the type that loves performance and handling, the SH is wonderful and always a thrill to drive.

Similar Products Used:

Ford Mustang GT Coupe
Toyota Celica GTS
BMW 323Ci Coupe

The Mustang GT has more power, but I feel the handling of the Prelude outweighs that. The Celica GTS has less power, however it is lighter. The BMW is more luxurious and almost equal on handling and power, but it is heavier and more expensive (and not quite as fun to drive :).
I consider the Prelude SH to be a much better car overall than any of the competition.

Strength:

Beautiful ride, excellent handling. Speed is good, however if you floor the gas, there's a "delay" before it picks up! The exhaust system is quiet, and when the RPMs ht 5K, one can hear te difference the V-tech makes....roomy, comfortable, good speakers...What else can I say??

Weakness:

HOWEVER, 2 things I'm not too crazy about; the back seat is way too small, and that clunking sound that comes from the rear shocks

Paid almost 18,500 with 24K miles on it, I think i got a good deal.....I'll finish payin for it in the next couple of months, and then....UPGRADES

1. ATTS..90 degree angle cornering going 50mph.
2. I love the style of the Prelude. Especially Premium White :)
3. The Feel!! there is no explanation. you just look forward to
go to work every morning. makes you feel good when you're next
to a civic at a stop light.

Weakness:

1. Interior Design
2. Back Seats
3. Price

I am just very satisfied with this car.
The handling is good.
The power is good.
The looks are good.
And yes it is worth all that money.
i just can't wait to modify it.

i recommend this car to anyone who is looking for a very
sporty car in every way.

Model Reviewed: Prelude VTIR

Strength:

Great engine; Cosy interior; handling; Looks great even after 8 years (this shape came to Aus first in 1992), very individualistic; ppl still perv on it (not the driver, which I can live with); and once again, THAT VTEC engine!

Weakness:

Hmmmm....maybe a bit overpriced; parents don't like it (it is also a plus...hehehe)

I paid A$30,000 from a dealer which is a good price then (Jan, 2000) and it had done 65,000km.
This car, in my view, is the TOP 4 cylinder car (in the 90's). Handles great and begs to be driven hard, which I happily oblige given the right condition. anyone looking for a performance sports car but does not want a turbo or a V8 this is it! Kicks most cars on the road...a real show stopper.

Model Reviewed: Si4WS

Strength:

The 4WS makes any off/on ramp a piece of cake and you can loose basically any car in a slalom course. The 2.3 liter engine does wonders for acceleration even with an automatic which I think is a bit quicker with a predictable acceleration time. The overall handling of this car is unmatched and unchallenged for it's class. The car is always a head turner on the road and unlike it's brothers the civic and the integra, cannot be found as frequently on the road.

Weakness:

Unless you're an Oompa Loompa or a circus midget, the back seat is best left to your backpack.

After owning this car for over 2 years I have found it to be a dream to drive. It is a point and shoot car and it has wonderful styling. I would love to transplant the 96' V-tec engine into my car but the 2.3liter isn't dissapointing me. One of it's downfalls is that it is incredibly easy to speed in this car and unless you're a cop, you have to watch the speedo! Proof of this problem lies somewhere in the 4 tickets I have acquired since I owned this car, that's over $300 dollars!!!!! Despite that minor defect, I would definitly say that this car is flawless and is a pure sports car.

Strength:

Handles good, gas milage, it is fast but needs a 5th gear in sport shift mode. I have added a AEM cold air intake and the engine sounds better at higher rpm. It also gives you a little hp boost.

Weakness:

4 gears, interior, and could use more torque to help get off the line.

It has been good so far. I am going to add a jackson racing twin-flo exhaust soon. That will hopefully sound better and gain a few more horses. overall i have had no problems with the car. Also, if anyone knows which is faster auto or sport shift, and is it better to take foot of the gas when shifting or not, and which is faster.

Model Reviewed: Si

Strength:

93 SI - Bought used Dec '96: Lovely engine, great stick shift transmission, digital dash (love or hate it), handling, brakes, tweeter pods (great for after market replacements, stock audio is just OK)

Weakness:

I have to agree, biggest issue for sure this is not the most comfortable seats in the world - it gives me bad back and aches in the shoulders - needs some bloody arm rests, is that too much to ask. Attentena gets stuck half way - like all the others I see on the street!
My girlfriend's hatch-backed CRX has more carrying capacity compared to this coupe. Rear seats are a slight upgrade from a pure 2-seater.

My third car and first experience with non-Nissan. Honda is def a notch up in the engineering department compared to Nissan and body integrity is better. Someone below mentioned valve noise. I bought mine with 43,000 miles and noticed valve back lash noise within my first year of driving - Took rocker cover off at 54,000 and all valves had double the recommended gap, hence the noise - extremely easy and accurate to adjust back to spec and hey presto - noise completely disappears - Done another 30K miles since and still no noise. Prob need to re-check/adjust every 30K miles or so. The stock stereo is OK, but I'd replace speakers with Boston Acoustics or Diamond Audio Technology and head unit (Clarion/Alpine or Excleron) plus amp (Power Precsion) - the sound system will then be up with the car's performance! Noticed slight tracking wear on inside edge of front tires recently even though alignment showed no problems - so I personally tweaked them toe-in 1/4 track rod turn - premature wearing now gone.
The left vent tube under front dash keeps falling off the connection to the passenger side window defrost - very irratating in winter.
Did I mention the sticking antenna - bad design.
Apart from the above minor issues and especially the uncomfortable seats with no arm rests - this car is the best drive I've owned and I would seriously check out a new model in the future - wished Honda did supercharging/turbo for the Colorado altitude. That's why my next car short list also includes the Suburu Impreza WRX Turbo - fastest Jap car under 30K now! and it's all wheel drive 0-60, 6 seconds.
