I pretty much love everything about this car. I got the Electron Blue color and I have already put a K&N filter on the stock intake tube and I cut the front grille out and those two black pieces under the blinkers and custom made a mesh grille for those areas ( as well as the piece right under the hood ) for about two dollars and some change ( instead of paying two HUNDRED for the pre-fab kits). Im gonna put a JR supercharger on this badboy before too long to fill in that notorious torque rape from 0-3000 RPM. This is a great car though except for..........(read weakness)...
Weakness:
I only have 2200 miles on it and the tranny wont shift into reverse!!Its not your normal little problem where you just shift to another gear and your fine, it just WONT go into reverse. The HONDA dealership is really screwin me too, they said I have to have an EXTENDED warranty to get a rental car from them, ( I guess the normal warranty isnt good enough for them ). Other than that it seems to be a real swell car. Overall I REALLY love the car, but the problem with the manual tranny not going into reverse is really upsetting me. Prelude SiR (I think)
Strength:
Toy is an understatement.
Weakness:
-Show-small back seat ends up being "stuff" place. Going from an 88 Lincoln Town car Signature Series, I was worried about the Prelude. Now that I have no 4 doors or back seat, less friends of mine are happy to drive with me anymore. What is nice about the Lude is it's power, response, and vigor. All my friends are breathless when I take them for a ride on I294. You can easily cruise at 100Mph with little worries or complaints from the car. Another thing about the car is the HANDLING! My lude cuts corners like butter. No car I have owned had driven as sharply as this one. Similar Products Used: Honda Civic 95, 97, 98, 2K1. |

Strength:
Smooth engine, handling, great fit if under 5'-11", unique looks, not everyone has one like say an integra
Weakness:
Not for people over 5'-11", my 6'-2" roomate hates the car and complains of torque steer. I have no problems with it This car is not but belongs to my other roomate, not the one who hates it. I wrote this since i felt the need to respond to the guy who thinks a Prelude costs $30000 and is bettered by a tiberon. First off it's $24-26 new, my roomate got his 97 for $16000 with aftermarket wheels and leather. I'm jealous everytime i drive it. The only real problem with it is the fact that because of its high revving engine and gearing i can't be legally driving in the powerband in second gear around town. I just want to hang a corner and ride to redline but that puts me close to sixty. But its such a temptation. Similar Products Used: 240sx, Subaru WRX |

I BOUGHT MY PRELUDE NEW.THE TIMING BELT HAS BROKE TWICE.A HONDA DEALER(HUGHES) IN WARNER ROBINS, GA DID THE WORK. THE FIRST ONE BROKE AT 88000, THE NEXT ONE BROKE WITH ONLY 60000 ON THAT ONE. MY CLEARCOAT AND PAINT ARE PEELING ON THE SUNROOF.I FEEL I HAVE BEEN TAKEN FOR A RIDE. THE SECOND TIMING BELT SHOULD HAVE LASTED LONGER. THE DEALER SAID THEY REPLACE ALL PARTS WITH HONDA PARTS. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM? THEY DO NOT WANT TO REPAIR IT OR HELP.I ALWAYS FELT GOOD ABOUT HONDA,I WOULD NOT BUY ANOTHER ONE. THEY DO NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR WORK. I HAVE NO CAR TO GET AROUND IN. THIS IS BAD BUSINESS. HONDA CARES NOTHING ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS.
Weakness:
TIMING BELT AND ENGINE. TALK WITH A HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE IN CALIFORNIA, SHE SAID SHE COULD NOT HELP. SHE NEVER LISTEN TO WHAT I HAD TO SAY. SHE WAS VERY RUDE. Similar Products Used: None |

Honda Prelude Type SH
Strength:
Where do I start? Perfect Handling, ATTS, perfect petal placement (for those of us that like to toe and heel), velvety shifter, fully loaded outta the bag, micron-air purifier, lovely engine, etc, etc.
Weakness:
I think the production on them is going to stop soon :( The perfect car for me. It has a dual personality. On one hand it is a true driver's car, but on the other hand it's quite practical. The rear seats fold down and I've never had a quam with how much crap I can stuff in there (then again I am a college student- all I transport is dirty laundry). Similar Products Used: 1991 Infiniti G20 - Same suspension as a 300ZX, however the Prelude is much faster and can corner much better. |

My car still turns heads and its over 8 years old. People, can't believe it when I tell them it's a 92. It's also in high demand because some people just don't like the new gen. I can't tell you how many times I get stopped and asked if I want to sell it. The design was ahead of it's time, and so much can be done with aftermarket parts to give it a look and personality of its own. I have over 160,000km and it still drives straight as an arrow. The interior is also a head turner, people love the huge sweeping dash, and the tweaters are very well placed, there's nothing like it.
Weakness:
Everyone knows the back seats suck, but who cares its cheaper on insurance. Also, I have seen a little rust forming over the rear wheel on some preludes, but this is probably due to our winter driving in Canada. You can't go wrong with Honda, this is my third Honda prelude, I started with an 86 then 89, and I have to admit the latest generation is growing on me too. If you want to spend reasonably low money and get a car with great looks and great performance that still looks better than most cars on the road pick up a used prelude, you can's go wrong. Similar Products Used: I have driven probes, celica's, integra's and they all have great qualities but overall they just don't compare. |

Strength:
Handling, braking, reliability, fuel economy
Weakness:
waiting for VTEC to hit 5k, poor paint quality In my opinion, this is the best 2 seat value for the money anywhere. I've had this car for 22 months and 28,000 miles. It is pretty nearly perfect in every way, though I am very interested in securing a supercharger for it to fill in the torque "hole" you get from idle to 5,500. This is only a minor nuisance during stop lights grand prix where you'd like to get to redline a few seconds faster. Trade journals indicate 0-60 in about 7 seconds, which is pretty respectable even with a torque "hole". You have to like an engine that revs, and you have to like to rev it or else you'll be missing out on the true performance of this car. I test drove a Civic Si in 1999, but really thought it was too loud and I didn't like the shifter. The Prelude's forte is steaming at ludicrous speeds down mountain roads. You can, in general, safely double the speeds posted on off ramps with very little concern. It feels like the center of gravity is slightly beneath the center of the pavement. The brakes have outstanding feedback and the ABS is far superior to that on say, GM and Ford products (rental vehicles I've had). Steering is superb. The car is also a competent autocrosser though it is a bit heavy to compete with a hopped up Civic on a very tight course. The stock CD player / stereo is even good! Finally, under very, very hard driving, the car returns an average of 25 mpg all the time, though it only drinks snooty super unleaded. Just go for a test drive. It sells itself. Strength:
Strong engine; A rush when the V-tec kicks in. And can corner.
Weakness:
Low end torque; interior trim sometimes rattles. I agree with the guy below, one of those guys is on crack talking about the Hyundai. He obviously was lying about the Prelude and probably just learned how to drive. I actually think he might be a Hyundai salesman trying to curb sales. I actually drove most sports cars under $35k and the Prelude wins hands down. Similar Products Used: My previous car was an '96 Acura TL. I absolutely hated it and lost approx. $10k to get out of it. If I didn't like the 'lude so much, I would've bought the Lexus IS300. |

Back seat...yeah we all know it sucks, stop complaining about it. at least its there unlike most sports cars in its class. better to have to put somebody in the small back seat than in the trunk. also the dash-pretty poorly designed but who cares, this is a drivers car not a freakin luxury car. keep your damn "autostick," onboard internet connection, GPS satellite connection and all that other crap that is so unnecessary. just drive it. This is a great car. For those of you who want to drag, and only drag race, this probably isnt the car for you, unless you want to spend 7 grand on a crazy turbo/nitrous setup. When its stock, the car isnt super, super fast off the line, but it handles like a dream, there is almost no body roll. my tires suck, but other than that this car handles like nothing ive ever experienced. you will not be dissapointed with this car, trust me. Strength:
Nice speed, cornering, great feeling car, with few faults. Great reliability, have had the car for almost 2 years, and not a problem yet.
Weakness:
poor placement of cup holders, needs auto up for driver window, plus auto up and down for passenger. A little noisy on the freeway, but thats how you pay for performance. This is a reply to Tim the moron three reviews below who payed 30K, for his prelude, and thinks a tiburon is better. |
