After reading Marc's moronic post, I felt I should post a review comparing the SS and the 'Lude. I test drove the SS and used to own a '93 LX 5.0 and also owned an early 90's Prelude. The cars are totally different and like Andre said, the ONLY thing the Camaro has going for it is power. It has a lot of it but believe me, it's a big piece of sh#%t beyond that. It handles like a WWII tank and feels about as nimble as an SUV. And let's not forget it's American made so reliability will suck and so does the build quality and of course gas mileage sucks compared to the Prelude.

Now the Prelude. Does it have gobs of low end torque or V8 thunder like the Camaro? No, it doesn't. But it's such a better car they can't even be compared really. When you sit in the Honda, you know you're sitting in a quality car. It also handles awesome, has a much more refined engine and you feel more confident in it as you it gets you more involved with the driving experience as opposed to the Camaro where you feel like you're just controlling an overweight tank. My '93 5.0 felt much more nimble than the 'SS. Plus you can modify the Prelude to get a lot more power out of it if you want, and you still have the great handling and Honda quality.

If you want pure V8 punch with really nothing else, get the Camaro (and your free Confederate Flag...haha). If you want a car that is way more fun to drive and really handles, and is truly a quality vehicle that you can live with day to day and will be RELIABLE (a word US automakers can't spell) get a Prelude or even a Subaru WRX.

Strength:

Everything but low end Torque

Weakness:

none except LOW END TORQUE, Insurance.

I would like to Say the Prelude is a reliable car that will last you in the long run. It has good power at 200 HP and can handle the crap out of any American car under the Class of a Corvette or Viper. It's sporty and it does not look like a box or a tank like the mustang or camaro. I have not been on this website for the longest time and I decided to see what else has been written, and then there was MARC. Marc, who owns a camaro ss decides to come to our prelude section and absolutely humiliate a proud owner of an 89 prelude. I think we should do a comparison:

Would like to say to "Marc" the SS owner that the only advantage he has is power, V8 vs V4, The Prelude handles better, Looks better, Lasts longer and is more reliable. Your Car has 320 HP! if the Prelude had 280 hp, it would blow your doors off! My buddy has a modified 1993 srv and he smokes cobras and all camaros, (You wanna be a tough guy, then dont complain if we modify a little 4 banger (According to you) and you get rocked. Trust me, I know you hate Japanese cars, but they sell because they last for more than a couple of years like alot of american cars. Your car is fast but then again Ive got friends who have Vettes, Camaros, Preludes and Rx-7's that will embarrass you, in other words shut up and drive and dont come back to this site to disrespect anyone!

Strength:

good price(in Canada)and power.

Weakness:

the design of interior is not really nice, especially the seats.. very uncomfortable...
My car is green, don't like that color..

Pretty good power and handling. The best choice for that price range.
Got cold air intake, A'pexi V-AFC(but it doesn't make much difference, I feel...), lowered, wingwest bodykit, 18" racing hart Z5000 wheels with Nitto 450 215/35/18,

Strength:

Incredible handling and braking. Nice power once you get above 5200 rpm. Wealth of aftermarket parts.

Weakness:

NO TORQUE!!!!!! Good luck fryin the tires, or even chirpin them. If another car rolls on you and you don't have the R's up yer done. Interior and features pretty plane for the amount of money these cars cost.

Honda makes great handling, reliable cars. I absolutely loved the way you could sling this car into a turn. The braking is also incredible. The paint scratches too easily. I had the transmission go out at 36000 miles. (This is a Honda?) I also had the car in to the dealers 5 different times and had a lot of the right front suspension replaced trying to cure a mystery "clunk" when going aroun a bend at low speed.

86 5.0 - All these guys brag about beatin 5.0's - I ran both cars on the g-tech and the Ford consistently beat the Lude. I'd much rather drive the Lude- you can't beat the handling but you'll never beat American torque without a turbo.
01 Jetta VR6 - VW's come a long way, they don't handle very well but they pin you to the seat. I can fix the handling.
01 VW GTI 1.8t this car is much funner to drive and feels much more expensive than the Lude yet it is thousands cheaper.

Strength:

Looks great for a 1993 car. I still get compliments from strangers, they think it's new. decent torque.

Weakness:

Enings valves are starting to give me problems;it's my fault though, cause i drive it hard. I like the car overall. i would recommend it anyone looking for a "sports" car not a race car. i wish i had the v-tec version. = (

Overall a very decent used car. Great reliablity. Never brokedown on me. Good value. Decent speed;very good accerlation in it's class. Small interior and Very small back seat. No cupholders. Sunroof rattles in certain positions. Decent mpg (23mpg in city, 28 on highway). Stable at high speed. Looks sportier than the newer 5th gen preludes.

Strength:

ULTRA SMOOTH and SILKY engine that LOVES to rev.
SMOOTHEST shifter around.
Stock stereo was simply awesome- clear as hell and cranked!
point and squirt handling
great ergonomics- sunroof was great, nice seats, great build quality
quick
FUN to drive
good gas mileage

Weakness:

not much- only thing I can think of is that the "point and squirt" handling takes a little getting used to for some...you simply nudge the wheel in any direction and the front end follows immediately. Besides this...nothing

Got it new in 1986 and kept it until 1991. 'Lude was still running fine but got a new Mustang LX 5.0....which rocked by the way......was young and just wanted to a V8 beast at the time.

The Prelude is a sweet vehicle. The 1986 was ahead of it's time. Better car than most that come out today. If you can find one used with not too many miles......go for it but that won't be easy. But if the later Prelude's are anything like the '86, I HIGHLY recommend one. Honda's make some great vehicles and they're reliable as hell.

Model Reviewed: Prelude Si

Strength:

1. Reliability/Quality
2. Steering precison and Handling, Suspension, just feels good to drive
3. 29 MPG (on the required Premium gas though)
4. Tight 5-Speed gear box, very precise
5. Excellent experience with American Honda, they cared about the problems I had with a dealership and resolved the promblem immediately.
6. Car feels solid still after 75,000 miles, no rattles, squeaks, quality materials on the inside.

Weakness:

1. Had exhaust problem very early on, dealer recommended to change the whole exhaust at $450. Had a small whole in the pipe near the engine, according to dealer, due to frequent small trips.
2. Pushing the clutch is a stretch, I sit closer to the wheel than I would like to.
3. The light metal dents very easily.
4. The stereo could be a little better, especially since this car attracts younger buyers.

This has been an excellent car. It has been reliable, and it still feels tight after 75,000 miles on it. It's a very rewarding car to drive.

Similar Products Used:

Compared to my friends' Mustangs and Camaro's, this car feels put together much better. No noise after slamming the door, no dash rattles, and no interior pieces breaking like the Camaros and Mustangs of similar age and mileage. If your looking for a Muscle car, the Prelude is not your car, it is too refined!
