Dealerships do not honor Hyundai Warranties, Hyundai does not force dealerships to repair vehicle and enforce the Warranty. Warranty only good for toilet paper.

BEWARE, BEWARE, BEWARE, WARRANTY NO GOOD!!!!!! In Reply to Hyundai Sonata question, Hyundai does not stand fully behind their Warranty, "BEWARE" nor does the Dealerships have to honor any warranty from Hyundai or service your vehicle. I purchased a new 2001 Hyundai Sonata GLS V6 Sedan fully loaded to the max on June 13, 2001, and at present only have 1,700 miles on it, at 1,250 miles I started having problems with the Alternator causing the headlights and air conditioner to fluctuate in power every 10-12 seconds. It does not matter if a.c. on or off and lights on or off the vehicle continues to fluctuate, it also causes at the same time to interfere with the automatic transmission causing a jerking motion and the tachometer fluctuates also. The other problem started at the same time is a screaching/squealing noise when getting in and out of the car from all four shocks or struts also when driving the noise continues. I took my new 2001 Sonata to my local Hyundai dealer in Kingman, Arizona and explained to the Service Manager what the problems were, this was on a Wednesday morning and he told me to bring the car back next Monday morning at 8 a.m. for service. Upon arriving at 8 a.m. Monday morning for my scheduled appt., the service manager drove my car for about 10 miles, then upon returning to the dealership he told me that, "HYUNDAI MOTORS" has a policy that no work is to be done until the service light comes on or the first 3,000 mile service and refused to even check the car out on the scope or find out what the squeeking noise is. A few days later I called Hyundai , gave them my extended warranty info and VIN# to my vehicle and was also told by Hyundai that it is up to each individual dealership if they want to service the vehicle or not and that they do not have to honor any warranty work and that if my local dealership will not service the vehicle I would have to drive to Henderson or Las Vegas,Nevada a 2 hour trip each way or go 4-5 hours each way to Phoenix, Arizona. Hyundai told me that no dealership has to service or honor any warranty as they are independent dealers separate from Hyundai. Beware and know, that even the extra 100,000, 10 year warranty I purchased is a waste of money and unable to get my vehicle serviced by Hyundai. This is the last Hyundai I will ever purchase nor will I recommend it to anyone. If any of you are driving thru K

Strength:

Everything---awesome looks, great warranty, lots of leg room, even in the back. GLS comes with awesome standard stuff!!

Weakness:

ABS is optional

We love this car!!! We traded in our 1999 Olds Alero for it because my husband is 6''3" and needed more leg room. We were looking at SUV''s but could not pass this up. We got the GLS which has everything but leather interior but that was the only thing we didn''t want. It has front and side air-bags, CD and cassette, power sun roof, wood grain interior, V6, and At least 3 times a week strangers ask me what kind of car it is and they all think it is either a BMW or a Jag!!! It is a beautiful car. The price was unbelievable and the warranty is awesome. We can''t say enough about it.

Strength:

Great car for the money, and really turns heads. People can''t believe its a Hyundai.

Weakness:

Sun visor needs alternative visor to cover both front and side simultaneously and no over head compartment for sun glasses

Love this car. Handles great in turns, acceleration if quick, roomy interier (I''m 6''6"), comfortable seats, dash is easy to reach and read. Trunk and hood opens using hydraulic lifts.

great car! i had this car for 5 years now. bought it used with 59000 miles. other than replacing the timing belt and rebuilding the tranny(all at my own will for more reliability) i haven''t had no major problems out of this car. i do have one complaint, the parts are hard to come by and are very expensive but it equals out considering how much you can purchase one of these vehicles for(they also had a low resale value up until the 1999 model). so far i have bought three of these 2-95''s and 1-98 model and i love them all i would recommend a sonata to everyone for so many reasons, they are cheap, reliable, equipped with options that imports like toyota and honda only have available on there top-of-the-line models(ect trans, heated seats/mirrors, etc.), and performance along with a very quiet ride. I can compare this car with my 92 toyota cressida which was the introduction of the lexus models

This car looks very deceiving but there''s lots of room inside.. I''m not a speed racer so it doesn''t zoom as soon as i put my foot on the gas... the air''s great..

Weakness:

i just wish that i can put more than 1 cd in at a time....

I''m a novice when it comes to cars.. I picked the sonata because of: (a) warranty and (b) the beauty of the car... I must say i made the rt. choice..

Strength:

Smooth ride, Powerful 4-cylinder, Good looks

Weakness:

Airbag sensor had to be replaced. Note that Camry did receive better crash test ratings, however not by much. Needs a better console, cup holders, etc.

Some people might laugh if you told them you bought a Hyundai. Just as Honda struggled when they first introduced the Civic and Accord to America, so has Hyundai. Hyundai has come a long way, and part of that is a result of the introduction of the newly re-designed Sonata in 1999. In that year Hyundai also introduced the Hyundai Advantage, which inclues a 10-year/100,000 mile power train warranty. This is hard to beat, and thats one of the main reasons sales for Hyundai increased. I bought my Sonata in 2000 and haven''t had a lot of trouble with it. I did have to get the airbag sensor replaced (not a safe thing to happen and the brakes won''t stop squeaking. As far as small complaints go, the cupholders could be a little deeper and the center console could have a better place for a cell phone. These things have, however, been taken care of in the 2002 Sonata, which shares the same platform as the ''99 but has undergone some exterior and interior changes. I don''t have the GLS, which means I have the 4-cylinder engine, however I was surprised how powerful it is. It''s not fast off the line, but after about 250 rpms the power really kicks in. The A/C does take a noticeably amount of power from the engine, but it''s still a pretty powerful 4-cylinder. As far as comparisons with competitors, well, I would say it''s right up there with Accord, Camry, Malibu, etc. I mean, you can buy a Sonata for the price of a Cavalier. Bottomm line, Hyundai is better, and I see it as being the next Honda, but it still has to develop a reputation, and only time will tell if that great warranty is needed very often. So far, I''ve got 15,000 miles on mine, and its held up great. Great car, better value than competiors.

Strength:

Price, included accesories and quiet ride and room. the car sounds solid when you close the door

Weakness:

the back trunk is tinny sounding and trying to get the trunk to close is a pain.

I had previously owned a 1994 Acura Vigor.Wonderful Car! Horrible backseat for teenagers, etc. I really wanted to keep it, but was stressing over the room. My last experience with a Hyundai was in the 1980's.I ran screaming from the test drive, as well as the salesman. I am a strong COnsumer reports reader and when I read about the Sonata, I was astonished. I test drove the car I now own, and was blown away. It was like riding in a Lexus. The back seat is cavernous and the power of the V-6 and the quiet ride sold me. The price as well is untouchable in the industry for the inclusions this car has.

Camary V6 about 7000.00 more than Sonata with same things. Sonata much better lines on the outside.
