Strength:
Without a doubt the best headlights around. I am nearsighted and very wary of deer in the country where we live. Superb in the rain. The night we test drove it, there was a torential down pour. Good dash placement of bright light indicator. We were sold!!! Great price. Fancy styling. Incredible leg room for my husband of 6'2" and growing teenage son and daughter. Love the seatbelt height changer. No strap across the face like in our 1996 Escort. Both sets of our 50ish parents want to get one!!
Weakness:
What is with the sheetmetal dents? We have 7 dents on the drivers side doors, and 2 on the very hard to close trunck lid. This is the "sick in the pit of the stomach" feeling on a car 4 months old. What will happen in a crash?? We need to address this with the dealer. We wanted a dark blue car - but that horrible beige interior sold us a ruby red with gray interior car. Hate the stereo pull out knobs for balance and such. Where is our standard 60/40 split seat listed in the brochure?? We need that to go to Home Depot. Side mirrors shape convolutes the image you are looking at till you get used to them. My husband is a truck driver and taught me to use the mirrors!! Absolutely loved the car!!! Great seating comfort. We use the height changing driver seat alot. We are different heights. Miss it when sitting in the passenger seat. Very smooth ride on those Michelins. Loved the color, interior is nice and neat. Not cluttered. Lots of extras on the base. Incredible headlights. Absolutely cannot lock your keys in the ignition. Repeat buyers, owned a 1989 Hyundai. Great for a growing family for the comparative cars in class. Similar Products Used: We had a 1996 Ford Escort last, after a 1989 Hyundai Excel(fantastic car). There were several things we didn't care for in the Escort after having the Excel. We missed the Excel's truck latch for sure. The automatic sliding seatbelt strap across the face for a 5'2" person was unbearable. Twice at the MAC machine I became terribly strangled in it when I opened the door to reach the card slot. The bright light indicator couldn't be seen for either of us. So we really checked out the features alot. The Sonata passed muster like we expected it to. Our 89 Excel was a 5 speed manual trans. bought in Ut. while we were military. The best car we've had. It looked great when we got rid of it. Bought it when our first kid was born. Had very little problems. Changed brakes at 75,000 miles. No kidding! Changed clutch at 89,000. Then had no problems till the valve got stuck open at 111,000 miles. We sold that car for 300 bucks to a foreign import car handyman. My dad saw it zipping down the Parkway one day not long after that.(We should have fixed it.) |

Sonata GLS V6
Strength:
VERY powerful V6, i fly past anyone. Awesome gas mileage. Stylish looks. Wonderful interior. VERY IMPRESSIVE
Weakness:
We must have had a lemon in this one. Ever since we bought the car, we have had problems with ignition. When we put the car in park, IT WOULD NOT SHUT OFF. The people at good ol' Hyundai Dealerhip in DORMONT gave us the run around with it. THe freindly folk at Moon Township Hyundai were of great assistance to us. They helped us out with our probs more then anyone. At the end of this terrible problem which grew worse and worse, they finally took the transmission and ingnition from another Sonata and placed it in ours and took ours and used it for experimentation. Tihs problem they said was very rare. Minor computer malfucntions with false warnings occur every so often. A very good car overall. We have had those problems when we first bought the car, but now everthing is ok. Hyundai has improved very much over the years. I could not belive the car I was in was a hyundai. It was VERY POWERFUL and so refined i thought I was in a Maxima, and with the styling it even looked it. Very good value for the money, just make sure your dealer is very freindly and help ful when you buy the car. I would buy this again if I had to. Similar Products Used: 1999 Honda Accord LX, I HATE THAT CAR, no major problems with the accord. The accord was equipped the same as the Sonata but costed much more. NOt as comfortable and powerful as the Sonata is. I would choose the hyundai sonata over any comparable car on the market today. VEYR PLEASED :) |

Strength:
Nice looking car.
Weakness:
No power. Poor quality parts. In shop more than out. It's been in the shop way too often. We've had the gas tank replaced, axle replaced, and it's going in tonight for a new transmission, unless they try to tell us that's not the problem. A side: the technicians don't seem to be very knowledgeable either. The car only has 61,000 miles on it; the transmission shouldn't need replaced this soon. My parents had a 1990 Hyundai Elantra, and it had problems. I had thought Hyundai would've improved since 1990, but obviously it's still poor quality. My recommendation -- Avoid Hyundais like the plague! Similar Products Used: 1990 Honda Accord Sedan and 1999 Honda Accord Coupe |

MANUAL TRANS. V6
Strength:
2.5 V6 With Manual Trans. GET IT!
Weakness:
Too soft stock suspension Everyone should opt. for the manual transmission with the V6. Not too many manufacturers advertise their manual transmissions. This is a good deal, it's a rare package - a V6 with a manual. It feels sporty. Young buyers can easily upgrade the suspension for a more sporty ride. I installed an after market exhaust, air intake, and header kit, not a too expensive upgrade, but now I have atleast 30 more horsepower and now the V6 sounds wonderful and torqey, but not loud at all. I lowered the ride height by about 1 1/2" with an aftermarket suspension kit, again not an expensive upgrade, but now the car feels and handles much more sportier but yet the ride is not harsh at all, and I carry many people in the car, sometimes even squeezing in 6 and the suspension, stock or aftermarket, never bottommed out on me, and even with that load the V6 with manual transmission climbs steep hills (grades) with authority, alot of reserve power. Also, since this car is not so popular, my ride grabs alot of attention because people don't see much customized New Hyundai Sonatas with a nice sounding Manual Transmission V6 on the streets. Remember, all this fun can be had i you get the V6 with a Manual Transmission. Besides, you save a couple of grand by not getting the readily available automatic, which in turn you can save the extra money and use it to enhance the car. Also, i havn't had any problems so far. This car can handle numerous full throttle "stop light" to "stop light" races a day without it breathing hard. How can you have a problem with this car any way, with that great warranty backing you up. Just change the oil on time and you'll have a great car for many years to come, Oh ya remember, get the V6 with a manual transmission! You'll love it. Similar Products Used: 1994 Honda EX Accord Manual. The Honda's suspension and shifter feel much more sportier in stock form, it still feels and drives like brand new. 2000 Camry: The Sonata seems and feels faster with the Manual. Of course a Camry is smoother and quieter, but why follow the herd? |

Strength:
This car is nothing short of amazing. For the money there is nothing better. My car is a GLS with the V6 and automatic overdrive, which is a nice combination. Great handling, good gas mileage (27 mpg overall), great styling. My car is the brilliant silver with alloys, and it turns heads. Dealer service for TPS recall performed flawlessly. My neighbor is leasing a 4 cylinder Camry costing far more than my sweet V6 Sonata! The dealer was easy to work with in price negotiations, and I feel I got a good deal.
Weakness:
A little more torque off in the 1000-2000 RPM range would be nice, but overall the engine is a good performer. Could use more legroom (I'm 6'1" with long legs) and headroom with the sunroof If in the market for a midsize sedan, you MUST test drive the Sonata....Camry/Accord ride and build quality for thousands less! This is one of the tightest cars I have ever driven. Responsive yet compliant suspension. Excellent four wheel disc brakes (Hyundai should make ABS standard). When I drive my old Dodge Dynasty, it feels like a Model A by comparison. Forget what you think you know about Hyundai. Buy one now, before the word gets out and the price goes up! Similar Products Used: shopped this car against the Chevy Malibu, which is a fine car, but a GM product. They have a history of screwing the customer after the warranty expires. Sonata warranty far superior, and car much better equipped for the money. |

Strength:
It gets great gas mileage, peppy 4 cylinder!, looks good, handles great, alot of little gizmo's and gadgets and VERY reliable! I have had absolutely NO mechanical problems with it and it's )OLD!!! Also makes a great cold weather starter! It was 40 degrres below 0 here in january and on our farm, it was the only vehicle that would start, and I didn't even plug it in!!!
Weakness:
Transmission shifting is off, uncomfortable seats, rough ride, noisy interior...But I'm young and it doesn't bother me. well, I love the car, I drive about 30 miles daily and I never once have wondered if for some reason , I wouldn't make it to work! But, if you can't put up with a noisy, bumpy ride ,than this car isn't for you. Would make a great 1st car. Similar Products Used: Ford Escort, louder inside than Escort, way more leg, elbow, hip room than escort, less head room, looks nicer, way more reliable...I could go on and on! |

Strength:
Exterior design is striking except for the grill which needs work. The rear exterior is very classy and gives a luxury car impression. The interior is very well done, especially with the leather package and the power drivers' seat. The car is not quite Camry quiet but very close. The CD/Cassette system has great sound. The overall experience is one of refinement. In rush hour traffic, this is a very calming vehicle. For bad weather considerations get the ABS with Traction Control. It is worth every penny.
Weakness:
The current 2.5 170hp V-6 lacks low-end torque, especially with auto. The 2001 2.7 185hp should improve things. As the revs build moving from a stop the noise level does rise but I find the growl somewhat satisfying. Also, the trunk is somewhat smallish (13.2 cu. ft.) but serviceable. 2000 Sonata GLS in Brilliant Silver w/Pkg. 13 and every extra except rear spoiler---MSRP $21,247---paid $18,685. Got a $1,000 Rebate for owner loyalty and 4.9% financing for 60 mos. This has got to be the steal of the decade in car terms. As some have written, "with Gods' own warranty" and this product pricing, this is one sweet deal. Similar Products Used: Honda, '95 Sonata--- |

Strength:
Looks good, that is it,but looks aren't comfortable. I traded a Camry for this heap. I wish I would have paid the extra $$ for another one.
Weakness:
Bumpy, noisy, I have already had it in the shop for warped rotors. Thought about trading it but it lost over 50% of it's value and basically I can't trade for a loooong time. I feel decieved by the things I have read about this car. Now I see how easy it is to write on these message boards. This is sad. I have this car and it is a sad excuse for a CAR. Never again will I let the price sell me the car. By the time I pay for this car (if it still runs without falling apart)it will be worth nothing. I had some co-workers warn me about this and now they get a laugh every time I complain. You always have to pay a little more for quality. Don't make the same mistake I did. Buy a Toyota and rest easy. Similar Products Used: Honda Toyota Nissan I would buy any of these first. Toyota is a proven KING of the road. I could have had another one for a few thousand dollars more. Nissan and Honda fall in a close second and third. |

Weakness:
Did not get the abs/tcs so i am bit not satisfied with myself as braking is weak I have put 17,600 in an year and the car handles great.I have noticed one aspect , u have to cross 15k to actually get the best engine performance.I have taken it on non paved roads and once on a river bed except my pride for being lost nothing was damaged.but it drove well .For the price i have paid worth every penny.could have got a loaded corolla or a not a fully loaded civic but could have never got the value and realability.
