Strength:
Quality and Value. Very clean design, high quality fabric interior. Powerfull engine, lots of options for the money. Very solid going over bumps and at over 160 km's/100 MPH.
Weakness:
Nothing really...It would be nice to have a more luxurious/Sporty model available. Loaded like an Acura 1.6 EL Premium. For Americans, the EL is a Canada only model that is based on the Honda Civic 4dr and includes VTEC engine, leather, moonroof, wood trim, 15" mags etc. I think that the car is very well made and I wish Kia lots of luck and keep supplying us great cars at great prices. I paid $16,000CDN/$11,000USD for an LS model with auto, air and power package. I did a ton of research and I recommend the car very strongly. I owned a Honda Civic 20 years ago, before it was cool to own a Civic and when they used to be well priced. I hate paying $3,000 to $4,000 for a reputation. Looks. Price (NOT REALLY it'll end up costing you in the long run)
Weakness:
Brakes (weak). Seats (Hard). Steering(is it power assisted?????) I drove it once. The seats are hard as a rock and dont lock into position when you move them. The brakes feel like they don't exist, you almost have to floor them just to slow down. Steering is akward. Transmission doesn't shift at proper time (delay shift and thus loses power). Similar Products Used: 1999 Pontiac Sunfire (Its brakes actually stop it, a decent car). 1998 ford contour (Equally bad). 1990 Pontiac Stationwagon (Doesn't look as good but at 10 yrs old its still more reliable) |

THE CAR IS CUTE....... IF ONLY IT WOULD STOP!!!

THE SHORTER ANSWER WOULD BE TO WHATS NOT WEAK. I'VE OWNED THIS CAR FOR LESS THEN A YEAR AND ALREADY I HAVE HAD TWO RECALLS ONE OF WHICH WAS A FUEL CONNECTOR , THAT IF IT WOULD HAVE FAILED WHILE DRIVING WOULD CAUSE THE CAR TO STALL. THE FRONT BRAKES HAVE FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED TWICE ONCE AFTER 4 MONTHS NEXT AFTER 6 . NOW THE BACKS BRAKES ARE MAKING NOISE, AND AS I UNDERSTAND IT BRAKES ARE NOT COVERED BY THE WARRENTY. THE ROTORS WERE WARPED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE INTERIOR DOOM LIGHT FLICKERS ON AND OFF. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS BEEN ON TWICE. THE REAR DRIVERSIDE DOOR IS ALWAYS AJAR EVEN THOUGH I NEVER USE IT. TO TOP IT ALL OFF THE DEALERSHIP GIVES ME PROBLEMS EVERY TIME I GO IN TO HAVE THE CAR REPAIRED EVEN THOUGH ITS STILL UNDER WARRENTY. I BE THERE 4 TIMES JUST FOR THE CAR NOT STARTING ALONE. THE PROBLEM STILL HAS NOT BEEN REMEDIED. PAIDED ABOUT 9,000 BEFORE TAXES. THE PRICE SEEMED RIGHT. BUT AFTER NEARLY BEING STRUCK BY AN ON COMING TRAIN WHEN THE BRAKES FAILED THEN I FOUND OUT THAT I PAYED WAY, WAY, WAY TO MUCH. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS CAR TO ANY ONE , UNLESS YOU HAVE A LOT OF FREE TIME ,CASH AND LIFE INSURENCE CAUSE THATS JUST WHAT YOU WILL NEED. YOU WILL BE AT THE DEALERSHIP AT LEAST TWICE A MONTH AND WHEN YOU FIND OUT HOW LITTLE YOUR WARRENTY ACTUALLY COVERS THE EXTRA MONEY WILL COME IN HANDY AND IF THEY FAIL TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM, AND THEY PROBABLY WILL, YOUR LIFE INSURENCE WILL HAVE YOU COVERED . THIS CAR SUCKS !! "AND THATS MY FINAL ANSWER." Similar Products Used: I WOULD NEVER COMPARE ANY OTHER CAR I'VE OWNED TO THIS ONE........ OH WELL, MAYBE A GO-CART !! |

Sephia (base)
Strength:
My sister owns an automatic and I own the manual (both 1999), and I have driven both extensively. Acceleration and even passing power are both very impressive with the manual. There's more horses under the hood of this car than a Civic or Corolla, and the car is deserving of at least some aftermarket performance support for this reason (though it has little or none). Handling in tight curves is also impressive with both models; the car hugs the road reasonably well for its class, especially when considering the stock Hankook tires it comes with. As far as reliability is concered, no major problems have been experienced. The automatic has had 40000 (mainly highway) miles tagged onto it in a little over a year and is still going strong. Additionally, both cars have been through a Chicago winter and have yet to yield any significant problems. Fuel efficiency is decent, but by no means extraordinary. The design of the car is pretty nice for its class as well, and would look even better with nice rims.
Weakness:
Acceleration and passing power is, contrarily, pathetic with the automatic transmission; it lags annoyingly in switching gears and it is truly amazing how distinct the two models are in light of this aspect. Both models have a pretty choppy ride on less than perfect pavement, and this can be a strain on the backside for extended road trips. Interior workmanship is exactly what would be expected for the price of this car; economy. Automatic Sephia was just shy of $12,000. Manual was just shy of $8,000 for a very bare bones model. Would highly recommend the manual slightly over the automatic for those who need a vehicle SPECIFICALLY just to get from point A to point B. Also wouldn't make a bad pocket rocket with some performance and suspension modifications. Similar Products Used: 1982 Toyota Celica (actually compares fairly well except in ride), 1984 Olds Cutlass Ciera (Sephia is far superior to this electrical nightmare), 1991 Hyundai Sonata ('91 Sonata has superior highway ride and workmanship, but manual Sephia has far better performance), 1978 Mercedes Benz 280 (no comparison in ride or performance, but would not be a fair comparison anyway). |

The Body frame is awful, the service is BAD, the warrenty is awful, the brakes have gone out on use the pinstripes came off after the first 6 months the price was extreamly high after financing we are paying $255 month for 5 yrs $18,800 over all. It is an automatic A/C and Cd player that is it. Every thing is bad about it really. The speed everything. I'll just sum it up it is a horrable car i really don't like it and is not worth the price we paid not even 500 dollars if i could i would just ditch it in the ocean we will be bottom up on this car for ever. It' got rear ended in 1999 not hit to hard and the whole back end got all messed up the trunck was completly crumpled up and it did damage even to the back doors. Not a good car for any purpose at all. Similar Products Used: 1992 Ford Mustang the speed is about the same which is pathetic. 1992 Chevy Lumina i was a fool to trade it in for this awful car i thought i would feel safer in a new car i was wrong. |

Don't buy. The dealership has had my car more than I have. I have had this car less than a month and the dealer has replaced the front axle, transmission. The car left my daughter stranded when it overheated. Some of the minor things, they replaced the motor for the windshield washer. Paid 10,999 I wouldn't recommend the car at all. I have to think about this, but the worst I can come up with would be resale value, but the value for me is so much more. This has been a wonderful car so far. I bought it new, stripped, for $8000 and have 25,000 miles on it now. There has been no problems, knock on wood!! I feel blessed because I'm rebuilding my life, and financially and emotionally a dependable, budget friendly car is so important. My Sephia is burgundy and very attractive. depreciation of vehicle Although the Sephia is an entry level vehicle it is a great bargain. My wife & I researched several vehicles before we decided to look further into the Sephia. We did have to go out of town ( about 100 miles ) to find a cerified Kia dealer, but feel satisifed with our buying experience. The sephia is an exceptional value & was available with a TON!!! of options, which we took advatage of. The vehicle has performed well & we have not have any problems with it, big or small!!! The only thing I would like to see is to the value of the vehicle stay strong. We expected our vehicle to depreciate after our purchase however we were disappointed to see that the value had dropped so drastically. Similar Products Used: We have owned 1 toyota celica, 1 toyota tercel,& 1 honda over the last several years the Sephia has performed as well if not better & the value is great!!! |
