Mazda 626
Strength:
Great pick up, fast, RELIABLE.
Weakness:
Cosmetic problems, no cup holders, bland interior I have had my share of used cars and this one by far is the BEST. My Mazda is reliable, fast, and looks pretty good. If someone is buying a used car they should definitely look into buying a Mazda 626. I have had a few problems with it, but nothing major. Things I just deal with since it's used. Get your vehicle checked out first, I did. I may have just got very lucky. I looked on CarFax and my car has had 8 owners, but you can't tell. Th only PROBLEMS I've had are as follows: my air conditioning is gone, the wiring in my lights is messed up (my car kept going dead b/c my lights would come on by themselves while I was at work and what-not) I don't put too much money into my used cars so I figured out if I leave my brights on all of my lights stay off - I just have to remember at night to turn them back off so I don't blind everyone. Oh yea, my driver-side door handle just broke, so I have to open it from the passenger side - and last but not least . . . my driver side window isn't aligned right. Okay despite all of these problems I still love my little Mazda and I hope it makes it through till' I can afford a new car. The body style, roomy, large trunk.
Weakness:
No electrical windows or door locks, transmission, and engine. I have had this car for 3 yrs now and I have replaced the engine and transmission. This car is no good and I will never buy another mazda in my lifetime. I have 2 other friends that have the same car and both have replaced their transmissions. This car has set me back $4,000. I have been reading all of the reviews..... Someone needs to get a class action lawsuit against mazda for not recalling the transmissions. My friend is trying to do this...please contact me. We should not have to put up with this. Similar Products Used: mitsubishi mirage 93 |

Mazda 626
Strength:
Good gas mileage Timeless styling LX model has mostly everthing
Weakness:
No transmission filter, if the transmission overheats **it's not that forgiving** If you don't maintain it you will be close to kissing it goodbye. MAZDA 626 4 cylinder, automatic transmission, 116,000 miles. Very good car, just not very forgiving. If you want to avoid some of the problems others posted then do the following. 1- Change the transmission fluid right away, there is no transmission filter. I use Dextron III Mercon fluid. 2- Flush and change radiator fluid and thermostat, otherwise car will eventually overheat 3- Wash road salt from the bottom of the exhaust system. 4- Clean mass airflow sensor, this takes about 25 - 30 minutes to locate, remove, spray with throttle body cleaner, air dry, reassemble. The check engine light may go away. 5-Change the fuel filter if high mileage and it has never been changed. 6- My timing belt lasted over 110,000 miles |

626 LX-V4
Strength:
Fast acceleration at low speeds Quality Stylish Value
Weakness:
Slow acceleration at high speed Brakes I own a 99' Mazda 626 LX V4. This car is GREAT! I have owned it for almost 2 years. It was a used car from Hertz Car Rental. I had it checked out before I bought it. Twice. I had to replace the brakes at 35,000 miles, but otherwise, I have had no expenses other than oil changes. As for fuel efficiency, I get 25 mpg and I do a lot of city driving. The car is fast 0-40 mph. After that it is a little sluggish. The only problem I have with the car is it seems to jump forward a little when I hit the brakes for the first time in a trip. Mazda had never heard of this and they can't find anything wrong, and I've learned to live with it. Also I don't think the power brakes are as efficient as comperable cars like the Toyotas or Nissans. Similar Products Used: '99 Toyota Camry '99 Toyota Corolla '00 Nissan Sentra |

/mazda 626 ES
Strength:
The car still looks very nice. The leather interior still looks great and the exterior looks very nice also. The v-6 delivers great power when accerating. The only other strength is that the car is paid for, other than that I can't think of any other attributes worth mentioning.
Weakness:
This car has been the money pit from hell and looks to be getting worse. The transmission is total crap, the same can be said about the steering , suspension and the brakes. The car needs constant repairs done to it. There is a slow oil leak that no one seems to be able to fix(the oil pressure sensor) This car was made in the 90's which seems to be a bad thing as far as Mazda's are concerned. We have had nothing but problems from this car. Not long after we purchased the car the engine light came on. We had the oxygen sensors replaced($300)and then the transmission starts to make an odd burping sound when slowing down. This car has been well maintained by us but still has turned out to be total crap. I constantly seem to be spending money on the car and things never improve. The steering makes a funny groaning noise when turning and the car idols terribly during summer months especially when running the air conditioning and usually the engine will shut off at intersections.I will probably stay away from Mazda in the future and try my luck with a different manufacturer. Strength:
Inexpensive compared to competition.
Weakness:
Transmission. This is my third Mazda 626. All three were bought new. The first one was a 1990 model, and had to replace the transmission when it was around 80K miles in 1997. The second one is a 1997 model, which I still have it, is at 87K miles, and I am feeling something that seems to be similar to the previous one just before needing a replacement. And, its engine light had been on for a few years that kept coming back. The third one is a 1999 model at just about 40K miles, it broke down. I was told that it was "inner-axel" that they are replacing for the third time. And, the second one was clearly defective and may cause a need to replace the transmission. Obviously, this would be my last Mazda ever. Similar Products Used: Buick Century, Cadillac Seville. |

Strength:
Nice ride and handling good power 4 a 4cyl. Good overall comfort. I can withstand six hours nonstop before I must get out to move around
Weakness:
poor sucky trans, rattly suspension ( i think it needs struts.) I purchased a 1994 Mazda 626 4cyl, auto from a private individual on 2/02 w/92K on the odometer. I liked the car well until after about a month I noticed that when the car was at highway speeds and on cruise mode the transmittion liked to play and frolic between 2nd and high gear. I am highly aggitated with this but as long as it's not in cruise it doesn't have this problem. I knew of the crappy trans history before purchasing the car so far I have been lucky it hasn't scattered. I am a do it yourself mechanic and decided that the transfluid and filter should be changed because it has never been done. Once under the car I found no inspection pan to change out the filter and after a discussion with a mechanic friend I found out that it takes about an hours worth of removing engine parts from the top side of the car to get to the filter. He recommended just draining the fluid and replacing regularly and screw messing with the filter. My suspiciouns were correct the fluid had never been changed It smelled and looked burnt no longer red in color I was surprised the trans had not failed at that point in time So I have dumped in some new fluid along with slick 50 trans treatment and I am hoping for the best until I can sell it to its next victim. 626 V6 LX manual
Strength:
Price, acceleration, availability of manual transmissions, high level of options with LX (a/c, cruise, AM/FM CD w/ good speakers, remote door and trunk entry), nice center flip down console in back seat (my kids love it)
Weakness:
Drivers seat is so-so, styling is bland, rough coasting in first gear, no door lock control on passenger side, gas mileage less than rated (I get 22 mpg city or highway, but I have a winddragging bike rack on top) The best buy in V-6 Japanese sedans. The Maxima is a better car, but not $6-9000 better. The 165-170 (depending on exhaust system) horsepower on the V-6 provides plenty of acceleration with a car this weight. Mazda makes plenty of these with manual transmissions, whereas it''''s not available at all with a V-6 and a manual on an Accord, and is hard to find with similarly configured Camrys and Maximas. |
