Strength:

Absolutly a wonderful vehicle--- Has lots of potential--- made it very easy to make fast

Weakness:

none at all--- This car has no weaknesses at all--- despite the hideous stock rims you get upon purchase

I purchased this MX-6 not to long ago--- What I have done to this beast to make it a racing champion is:
Dropped a couple inches
-A strut tower bar
-A new V-6 engine with 40,000 miles only
-An after market exhaust
-A performance computer chip
-New heads
The best thing about the MX-6 is it is unlike any other car--- Looks nothing like any other vehicle--- IF you are trying to be different and go fast the MX-6 is brilliant.
Everybody is on the Mustang band wagon currently--- I have broken that trend with this bad boy-------

To top that off--- I race Worked Mustang 5.0s and smoke them with all of the performance done to mine--- The MX-6 is wonderful

Strength:

Smooth ride, great cornering, very fast. Dependable - I have been driving this car very hard for over four years and it hasn't been in the shop for any thing other than routine maintenance.

Weakness:

The back seat can be said as being small, but this is a sportscar not a minivan.

The MX-6 is by far, in my opinion, one of the most dependable cars on the road today. Every owner I have talked to has never complained of a breakdown. As I approach the 120,000 mile mark my Mazda has yet to see the inside of a mechanic's garage for any reason other than routine maintenance and scheduled oil changes. After being on the road for nine years, my Mx-6 still turns heads when I cruise down the highway. The superb handling and power leave nothing to be desired; a very worthwhile and satisfactory investment.

Strength:

great engine, looks, speed

Weakness:

paint and auto transmission

These cars are great, I owned a 4cyl automatic for 3 years and had to buy the LS version with the V6 and the manual transmission, I've driven them very hard and had almost nothing on the car break that I can say I didn't cause. They both handle very well and accelerate very well. I would stay away from the automatic transmission as they are known for going out alot, (mines gone) but the manual is much more fun anyways.I love everything about this car except that tranny and the fact it is front wheel drive, the engine has too much power for the tires that fit on it. I would recomend this car to anyone who wants a fast sleek car that doesn't cost that much and is very reliable. But again, stay away from the automatics.

Strength:

Excellent engine (2.5L V6). Great looks

Weakness:

Road noise; rattles; paint

The 2.5L V6 is a gem. Quiet, smooth, and plenty of power. The 5-speed is nice, but shifting from 1st to 2nd is notchy. Good handling and braking. Very sexy lines. Still one of the better looking cars on the road I think.

Road noise is a bit excessive. Came with lots of rattles, and took months and numerous (over 10) visits to the shop to sort them all out. But once that was over, it's been very reliable. The paint was bad and the manufacturer paid to get the whole car repainted. Got lucky, the body shop they picked was one of the best I've ever seen.

Cockpit is nicely laid out, with easy access to all controls, although the turn signal and wiper controls can get in the way of some dash mounted buttons. Why there is no way to power lock/unlock the driver door from the passenger side door is beyond me. The vehicle has power lock capabilities, just no way to activate it from one side of the car. What an oversight. Backseat is only good for briefcases. Trunk opening is a bit small, especially with a higher lift over requirement. The 626 is better in this department. Bigger objects are difficult to put in the trunk, even though the trunk has space for it.

Overall, a great vehicle for carrying 1 or 2 people, running around town or cruise on the highway, and have some driving fun.

Finding modifying or accesory parts

I love this car, and strongly reccommend it. It is a fast car with an immediate sporty look, well thought out and fun to drive.

However I can't find any parts to improve the look of the car (yet)
I am looking for 1)clear lens headlights, taillights, side markers, air intake, and others designed for the MX-6, drop a line if somebody knows where to look.

Model Reviewed: MX-6 LS 2.5L V6

Strength:

Handling - probably the best stock handling I've experienced in a car in this class.

Braking - All wheel disc brakes with ABS makes for excellent braking performance.

Engine - One of the smoothest V6's I've ever driven.

Styling - A very contemporary look for a 94. Smooth lines will not go out of style.

Fun factor - This car is a blast to drive. I would recommend it to anyone.

Value - You simply can't get a car that will rival the overall performance and reliability of an MX-6 for a similar price. The other cars in it's class (prelude, integra type R, civic SI, eclipse etc) cannot match what you get for the money in an MX-6.

Gear Box - nice transmission, shifts smoothly, decent gear ratios for nice midrange power and some low end torque that other cars in the class lack.

Weakness:

Fit and Finish - poor quality factory paint tends to oxidize and fade prematurely. Electronics are subpar; power antenna, power mirrors have both gone out. Mazda door locks are notorious; both driver's side door lock and trunk lock will not turn with the key anymore. A lot of small rattles.

Response to modifications - Some of the reviews here claim that this car responds well to mods and that it is easy to get more power out of it. Unfortunately, this is simply not the case. A convoluted poorly flowing intake manifold strangles an otherwise exceptional and spirited V6. There are a fair amount of aftermarket perfomance parts for the MX-6 these days, and you can get more power, better throttle response and some decent track times if you put some effort into modifications. However, don't expect this to be like a honda where an intake and exhaust net you 30 more horsepower.

15 inch wheels - A terrible idea to put such small factory alloys on such a sporty car. Throw on some light 16 or 17 inch wheels.

Shifter - A bit long, and a tad sloppy. Too much side to side play. Get a short throw shifter.

This is a wonderful car for anyone that wants a sporty and reliable car for a great price. With 164 Horsepower in a very smooth V6, it is quick and handles surprisingly well. It's a very nice overall package of power, handling and braking.

The engine is simply a gem. Very smooth, likes to rev and extremely reliable. A very fun car to drive.

My modifications thus far:
Custom air intake, Brullen Catback exhaust, PRD short throw shifter with Momo knob, Eibach springs, KYB struts, EBC slotted rotors, Hawk HPS pads.

Still to come:
Headers, High flow cat, adjustable fuel pressure regulator, underdrive pulley, custom guages, 17 inch rims...
