very hot ride! Woman love it. It has toasted all types of cars. I pulled up to a 1999 V6 Grand Am, took it to school. I also toasted a 2001 eclipse.

Weakness:

Expensive gas! Premium baby!

I want to totally jack this car up! I need some help from you guys though! email me at isobro@yahoo.com to give me info on how to put some stuff on this baby. I want more turbo power and other mods that maybe you can help me out with. Thanx!

It looks good

Weakness:

Where do I start!? After I hit 100,000 miles, my car has practically lived in the shop. There are problems after problems, and it is very expensive to fix. It has been a POS for a while and I'm trying desperately to get rid of it.

This experience has been awful. If I wasn't so worried about my credit I would have left it on the side of the road. Never again will I buy this kind of car and I don't recommend it to anyone. What ever you do don't buy this car unless you can afford to pay for the repairs every other day.

Strength:

Super fast, handles corners like a demon, excellent factory sound system, I had an automatic sedan, an Olds 98, and this is a very refreshing driving experience! Bought with only 80000 miles on the clock.

Weakness:

The interior is a little cheap with some loose plastic. A little cramped on the inside, but that's the way the car was designed! No mechanical problems encountered yet.

I've had nothing but fun with the eclipse. I think a lot of the negative reviews are from a few disgruntled people with a bone to pick. Like any car, if it is beat on and abused it will not work right! I plan on taking exquisite care of the Mitsubishi and am planning some basic bolt-ons. I don't know of any overrated car that I could have bought with my $5000 besides the rightly hyped Eclipse. Don't buy this car to only go from point A to point B, buy an accord for that, use this car to dice up some corners and straightaways!

Strength:

Let me say I was worried with what I've heard about models younger than the third generation (99 and below), but that is when Chrysler also built these things, Mitsubishi bought back all their stock and now completly redesigned the car, which unfortunately meant getting rid of RWD and the turbos, but let me tell you, this engine is STRONG!

First off it's a natural crowd pleaser, even now in 2001, I barely see a lot of the driving. My GT was sent from Cali so it only had 200hp instead of the 205 normally, but this thing has a LOT of torque and moves you fast. The interior is VERY sexy and with my aluminimum dash kit, I'm always getting compliments about how nice the car is in and out. I have 60,000 miles on it (ok ok I drive a lot, the car BEGS for it to be driven!) with nothing more than 20 oil changes (1 per 3k miles) not done myself or by the dealer here but by a local firestone who only charges 10 for the whole deal (I'm also economical).

The car handles good, buy a swaybar for the back and you've got a monster, this thing is very upgradeable and it's fun to be able to add stuff so easily since I'm no mechanic...

Gas mileage I'm getting is about 23mpg, but I push it too hard :) Leather is nice and plush, car has no creaks or moans yet, had one when the stereo played too loud, dealer fixed it in under 1 hour.

Weakness:

The stigma that follows these new beauties because of their older models, dismiss what you know about the first 2 eclipses, the 2nd was an improvement, but the 3rd is the key :) And again, lack of a turbo or a AWD, turbo I don't need where I do my driving (work and on occassional trips), but the AWD or RWD would be nice.

This thing is awesome, best v6 sports coupe available for the price, drove a camaro, rode too low and it just seemed to cheap around the inside, drove a mustang, it was nice, but so is every other single mustang you see on the road because there are TONS and you just don't feel any different (I guess it didn't help when I drove it, hit the light and all 3 lanes had a mustang in them - they sell 3x as many as camaros and firebirds combined, that's a lot of the same cars).

Great price, good relaibility, no more Chrysler, yay! It's a winner, drive one and you'll love it :)

Strength:

Handling, speed, good styling in and out, good stock stereo system (Infinity). Received many compliments and admiring looks. Girls waved and hollered at.

Weakness:

Structural integrity.

One of the best, if not the best, looking and best-bang-for-the-buck sports cars ever built. The thing can be modded to eat V-8's for breakfast, lunch, and dinner (it can eat most V-8's for lunch already). Wish Mitsu would produce these turbo monsters again.

Strength:

Sporty-looking, interior looks great. Corners great, but only with $5,900 in upgrades.

Weakness:

Where do I start?? I've owned the car since new, at about 6,000 miles the ECU went out. Had the tranny rebuilt at 28,000.That lasted until about 40,000, then the head gasket went at about 45,000. The alternator went less than a month later. It threw a valve at 60,000, then the entire injection went out shortly thereafter. The ECU went out again at 80,000 and unbelievably again at 83,000 or so, and the dealership wouldn't honor thier warranty. The alternator went again at 86,000. Somehow the entire electrical system shorted out at 89,000, which also included the alternator and ECU. I made it to about 100,000 or so before the tranny went again, somehow requiring the axle to be replaced as well (i stopped taking it to the dealership at that point). The ECU, distributor and alternator all went out at 118,000, the head gasket following shortly thereafter. The engine made it 136,000 without any more major repairs, but it finally blew, and i replaced the entire thing for about 6,000. Since then, the tranny's had to be rebuilt twice (about every 12,000 miles) the ECU, distributor and alternator going (at around the same time) every 8 or 9 thousand miles). Since the car was new (and even after i had the dealer work on it, later taking it to machine shops, the problems never stopped) it leaked oil, the valves ticked, the interior lights worked when they wanted, almost all electrical parts under the hood blew at least 2 or 3 times, the exhaust had to be replaced at every OTHER inspection, and NUMEROUS other "small" things, as the dealer called them. The entire time i owned the car (until 160,000 when the engine blew AGAIN)it was one major repair after another, which is understandable when you beat the hell out of the car, but i never pushed the engine, always changed the fluids, but what do you expect from a company which fails to make decent televisions??

Engine, tranny and all other major components are in constant need of replacing. Not fast at all (5.0's tear this car to pieces) and i've picked up more women in honda's and mustangs than i could ever wish to meet in this POS. The only good thing about the car was the handling.

I've driven hondas with up to 300,000 miles on them, and they ran as strong as the new ones. Owners report exceptionally low maintenance, i'm definitely looking into getting one.

looks, looks, and speed, all about the turbo baby, lots of respect for honda the v-tech but the gst will destroy you and your variable valve timing and lift control it kicks in entirely too late(around 5500-6,000 rpms by that time its too late and feel the wrath of mr. turbo and his 210 horses

Weakness:

interior is the same design as other cars, no back seat room but who cares its a sports car, if you want leg room buy a SUV or minivan to pick the kids up from soccer practice (stop whining about leg room eclipse owners)

awsome looks with the supra like wing and lower front bumper cover, instead of that goofy smiley face on the 95-96 models, lots of performance parts available, interior is basically the same as the avenger and other Dodge products(for the people that dont know the car is basically an american car with a japenese engine)mitsubishi teamed up with DSM for some odd reason to make the eclpise, down with DSM ruin your own reputation of building cars not mitsubishi

Strength:

Fun to drive, bigger than last 2 generations of eclipse.

Weakness:

Where should I start. I bought the five speed. The clutch goes out at 12500 miles. I call the dealer and it has a 12000 mile warranty and they will not warrant it. Come on!! They said I was abusing it. This is may daily driver with mostly highway miles. Abuse is an excuse not to warrant a new car. I wanted to put an aftermarket clutch in it rather than the factory, they say "That will void your transmission warranty". Enough. DO not buy this car.

At first I was impressed. I drove the cougar, and the celica. I did not plan on driving the Mitsu, but a freind talked me into it. The car is fun, but repairs are expensive, and the things that are under warranty still take time to get fixed. HAve owned the car nine months and have had to make 2 warranty visits, and one non-warranty visit.

Model Reviewed: GT 4spd automatic/sportronic

Strength:

Smooth ride, good gas mileage, stylish, speedy, comfortable (driver's seat that is), so far no serious mechanical problems of any kind.
This car is fast! And, a lot of heads do turn...
Good value for the dollar, and the sound system is great.

Weakness:

I noticed that the automatic tends to jar and makes a sloppy transition from first to second when you just start out after the car has been sitting a while. It does this about 80% of the time. Maybe it's me on the pedal, but I don't know. It has done this almost from the first month of driving.
There is a lot of creaking and squeeking coming from the sunroof area when it's closed. Also, the rear seat area on the passengers side produces an almost constant groan, like plastic squeeking against another surface, and seems to be caused by road dips and speed changes. Very irritating. No one can seem to locate the source and come up with a remedy. In winter, the hatch back latch on that side chatters loudly. I have adjusted it a few times. It stops for a while, then starts again.
Fortunately, these are all cosmetic. As I said earlier though, I hope it doesn't reflect on things to come...
I strongly reccomend mud guards, the side doors seem to attract a lot of road grime and debris as it is. Some paint is also chipping off the hood and plastic panels around the wheels.
Not too bad for worst qualities, hey?

The design and apperance attracted me to this car. Once I drove it, I was also impressed with the smoothness of the engine and the tight ride. The more I drive it however, the more I notice little things that irritate and make me wonder what's in store for the future.
Overall, I am satisfied. This is a sports car with a luxury feel. I baby my vehicles, and I really appreciate the appearance of this car. I have 28,000 miles on her and the only maintenance required has been oil change and tire rotations, and one re-alignment.

About the same as most of my previous vehicles. I've driven Grand Ams (2), a Grand Prix, and an Intrigue. I got rid of the Intrigue and a 1999 Grand Am due to mechanical problems. Bad brakes, bad steering, bad transmission.
The eclipse has a better ride than the Grand Am, Grand Prix. For the money, I'd take an eclipse. So far, reliability has been good compared to my GM past.
