This Car is very quick and call pull alot of cars on the highway and from 2nd gear. The upgrades are fairly simple and can be done at home. great car for teenagers wanting a fast car

Weakness:

The timing belt went out at about 121,000 and all the valves bent, also the head gasket went out and started spilling oil

This car can pull the 2000 Honda Civic SI and i have pulled camaros, mustang, preludes and the one i pull best of all is the RX-7

I had a trans am 1984 and my eclipse doesn't quite have the power the trans does but is a lot quicker.

Strength:

I love this car. It just basically kicks ass. The upgrades offered are endless. Since the RS is the lightest model, an aftermarket turbo kit(Hahn/Star) makes the this little for bang faster than its big brother the GST. Actually with just a stage 1 turbo kit from Hahn you can be 1.5 seconds faster than the GST, and you don't have to pay the ridiculous insurance cost. Extremely fun, extremely aggressive, and just an all around great buy.

The people who complain about not enough space, ect. What the hell are they talking about? Its a SPORTS car. You are going to have to sacrifice room for performance. If you want room buy an SUV, if you want a car that can be built to push over 400 horses buy an Eclipse.

Weakness:

The RS very few luxurary accessories but I kinda like that. I am able to build the car from the inside out and outside in. I haven't had any real problems engine wise. Just your average everyday mishaps that could occur with any other car.

I absolutely love this car. It is basically a project car to have fun with. You can really lose yourself when the "Upgrade me" bug bites but I promise you, you will love every second of it. I give it two thumbs up.

Strength:

Looks
Handling
Fun to work on (almost everything snaps on and off)
Easy to spot oncoming problems
Perfect for the car-audio enthusiast (hatchback helps bass a LOT)
Gets lots of attention (chicks dig it)
Quick for being a 4-cyl-non-turbo
switching 3 lanes on the highway at 120+mph ain't no thang!.. :) (get some z-rated's 4 that tho - don't kill yourself!)

Weakness:

the designers of this car obviously never took into consideration making a u-turn on a road with anything less than 50 lanes on both sides - the turning radius is HORRIBLE!
don't be fooled by its stylish and agressive good looks - this car is NOT that fast - while it tears almost all other stock 4-cyl's apart - don't think of pulling up to a mustang (even the low end) and pulsin' yer pedal unless you got serious mods under the hood.
without tower-braces and good suspension - turning-roll is horrible
its a small car - i'm 6'1", and the only thing i think that makes me able to drive her is that i'm only 155lbs and very 'bendy'
rearview is distorted because of the shape of the rear window and the side views aren't worth crap - the very first 'mod' i made to this car was bubble mirrors and am convinced i would have wrecked the car many times over if i hadn't put them on

ok - i've heard a lot of mixed reviews on eclipse's and now i've had one for over 2 1/2 years and i'll tell you that if you don't spend a good deal of time making sure that this kitten is purrin' right, she's gonna turn around and bite you in the wallet. I bought the car at 32k and shortly after that my clutch blew causing a kick-back to blow the hydraulics in the clutch-pedal to go as well (but i beat the hell out of her tho). had a 'friend of a friend' do the work to replace the parts needed and found out why you don't take the lowest bidder (not like i really had a choice tho) - he ended up not replacing the seals correctly (factory specs say when you do that type of work to replace all seals removed) so my transmission leaked till it was bone-dry (took it to the guy NUMEROUS times and he had no idea what the problem was - should tell ya something) and i killed my 3rd and 5th gears (highest on the pole - got no lube) so i had to have my entire transmission replaced - but i learned my lesson the first time and paid the big bucks to have the dealer do it ($2,500.00+tax) with a nice warranty (that will no doubt expire the day before it breaks again). can't say i've had TOO many problems with it except that the person who owned it before me obviously had it modified up and down - the interior accents were all painted purple - wtf?!.. - the rear tower-brace had obviously been removed recently - the muffler's tip was HACKED OFF and there was a particulearly UGLY *GOLD* tip screwed on to it for 'performance' i guess and had just about blown out the back left shock (i kindly finished the job...). just had new suspension put in and would enjoy the car driving like a dream if i hadn't bent one of the control arms for the steering running a curb like a moron. also - this has been the absolute most fun car to install a sterio in (4 12" subs fiberglass-molded box fit to striped down trunk/rubber-molded-lining/bolted down with all the power they need plus all the right wiring custom-ran and hidden // modified rear speaker containment for 6x9 infinity 3-ways // 5 1/4" clairion subs in doors // 2" titanium tipped clarion tweets custom installed into factory tweeter slots // kenwood flip-face // every single piece of the interior that wasn't welded to the frame was removed and insulated with about 100lbs of foam/rubber/latex sealent // all work done by yours truely thank you very much... :). one thing i actually enjoyed doing but shouldn't need to be done was the sunroof (yes, RS with a factory sunroof) stopped working right (slipping off the tracks - not closing all the way - not sliding smoothly) and because i refuse to let the dealership tell me i need an entirely new one, i took it completely out (you'd be suprised how easy this was) and took it completely apart / cleaned every last moving piece / stripped the 'lubricant' out of every crevice i could find and then re-lubricated the entire unit once put back together with heavy-duty engine grease - since then - it works like it was right out of the factory - no noises or bumps.

all in all, if you want to have this sporty-LOOKING car and not pay an arm and a leg you better be a do-it-yourselfer or you are looking at paying BIG BUCKS to keep it up.

i'd enjoy owning a '99 GSX (any sellers?!)

Strength:

Very fast. You can beat almost any other import, from stoplight to stoplight and especially on the interstate. Good looks and handling.

Weakness:

Rear and rear- side vision is horrible and makes it hard to back in. Leaks when it rains. Radio is behind the shift knob.

I bought the car with 60,000 and have put 30,000 more miles on the car and have had zero breakdowns. Maybe I got lucky, but my car is very reliable, even with mods (intake, exhaust, blow-off valve and boost controller). Car is so easy and inexpensive to modify, it's funny. I don't race much, but can beat a mustang gt as long as it's not heavily modified. As for hondas, no match. Very good car for the money. You have looks, speed, reliability (if you take care of it), what else do you need.

V6 205 horsepower manual/automatic hybrid transmission. The 7-speaker infinity system is perfect for the acoustics of this car. The 205 horsepower is more than enough for the weight of this car and I blow away 95% of my competition at the line. I absolutely love my car!!

Weakness:

The only weakness I can think of at the moment is that I bought a jet black car and it is the hardest color to keep clean. The only other weakness I can think of for the 2000 eclipse GT is that there aren't that many aftermarket parts for upgrading horsepower that I can find. If anyone can help me in that respect please e-mail me at boxer126@aol.com otherwise, I am 100% satisfied and am a mitsubishi owner for life!!!

My 2000 eclipse is the best investment I have ever made!!! I love it!!!!

GREAT CAR! Runs like a tax evader from the IRS. I spent around 2 grand in bolt on mods. But the stock version will kick butt out of most cars.
The stock Infinity sound system ROCKS! Must've gotten lucky since most reviewers didn't like it. I think it just lacks a little bass so I put in a bazooka. Once the boost kicks in say goodbye to the other cars.

Weakness:

Well.. my battery, alternator, rear wiper and cd changer all broke down while under warranty. The dealer fixed it without any hassle though. But after they replaced these, the car NEVER broke down, even after the mods. Must be because I'm obssesive about maintenance.
Strut tower bars are NECESSARY! After I put this in, no more squeaks and a lot better handling.

COPS like this car. My car's ARREST ME RED color doesn't help either.

If you're looking for comfort, low maintenance, get up and go car, get an Accord, which I happen to like. If you want redline screaming, great handling, and expensive car get an Integra. If you're a CAR GUY/GAL who loves working on their own car and anal about maintenance, THIS CAR IS FOR YOU! If you want the best bang for the buck that blows the doors short of a Porsche/Ferrari/Lamborghini, THIS CAR IS FOR YOU! AND unless you like the Subaru WRX's looks or Audi's price, this is the only car with a turbo, all wheel drive, great looks AND that's affordable.

Nothing at all!

Weakness:

God I don't know where to start! I got 1 mile from the dealer ship and the clutch goes out. Then at around 20,000 miles the battery goes, 27,000 miles car starts dying when you push in on the clutch. Dealer says we can't do anything about it. Then as soon as it is off warranty they say oh thats the computer which is $1400 dollars! Then the clutch goes out again, then the starter aside from all of this the interior constantly makes noise, rattles, squeaks, Inside sucks, radio horrible, if you have a big wad of money and just want to blow it buy this car!

I don't know who would buy this car? When I go to trade it in they say they can only give me $5200 dollars! and I have invested a fortune on this stupid car! So hear me when i say PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't buy this car! Why don't they allow no stars?
I would recomend it for this car!

Strength:

I have to say that I love the turbo the most. And although it is an auto, it still keeps up with cars such as the Integra GSR and the Celica GT-S. The seats hold you pretty well if you're average height. The feel of the "jet fighter" style cockpit where everything is oriented towards the driver. I love it. I plan on getting into a 99 GS-X when I pay off this one though.

Weakness:

The interior quality is a little shabby, but tolerable. Stock stereo doesn't have much power.

I've had only pleasent experiences with my Car. I fell in love with it right away and after getting thouroughly raped by the car dealership I was off with my baby. People love to race me, although I usually take them, and the girls love the looks of the car when it's clean. I definently recomend this car!

Nice v6, looks great, fast

Weakness:

kind of liked the 2nd generation design better, could use AWD

I personally like this car. It looks nice, but not as nice as the 2nd gen eclipse. But,all you other people complaing about 4cyl 2.0 turbo is better than a nomally aspirated v6, it needed a turbo just to keep up with the v6. Just wait 'til I upgrade it. YES its tweakable. just go to www.neweclipse.org. I will plan to lower it, put new rims, nitrous, and wave to all the mustangs and camaro's as I pass them by.

Similar Products Used:

Rustangs(Who doesn't have one), camaro, would get one but lots of people have them too.300zx and supra twin turbo a bit too pricey and hard to find with the turbos, especially where I live.
