Strength:

This car has 165,662 miles on it and runs better than any car I have seen with that kind of mileage.

Weakness:

The smoke.

The curious thing is that is smokes like a pit! I don't understand because it has plenty of compression...hmmm. oh well, a little oil smoke never hurt anyone.

Strength:

Fast, Good Looking, Drivable attraction. This car is by far the fastest car in it's class. Getting the turbo's on the eclipse is a great idea. Otherwise they are slow. I have put a full body kit, 3 T.V.'s, a dvd player, 3 JL audio subs, all new door speakers, 2 amps, a brushed aluminum kit for the interior, neons for the interior and exterior, 18' inch G-Racing chrome rims with low profile toyo tires, a K&N high flow air filter, a custom wing, and a Greddy Catback Exhaust system. When i say that this car hauls ass, and attracts attention, i am 100% for real. My girlfriend get's pissed off all of the time because of all the girls it attracts. It even attracts guys who are into racing. I plan to do alot more to the engine before summer to get it ready for the shows. By summer time all you people with your stang's, vett's, and maxima's (for mike d'lo)... Beware because this eclipse is a bad boy.

Weakness:

00000..... NonE Never have a problem unless you don't take care of it, or if it hits old age ( probably around 400,000 miles ).

The car is fast, attractive, and so adjustable with aftermarket products that it just makes you want to get sick. I love this car and will always love this car. It is just a car that you can just sit in and say to yourself, "Damn this car is hott". I have not had any major problems with it since it was carefully chosen with 0 miles off of the Mitsubishi lot. I drove all other sports cars in it's class and none of them come close to comparing. Want a sport's car that attracts and practacaly flies ? If yes, i strongly recommend a Turbo Charged Mitsubishi Eclipse. Oh yeah, it is 100% worth every penny you will spend on it. Get one, You'll see.

Strength:

Feels and looks very sporty, very quick acceleration, great handling, leather seats, stock OZ rims. Really high top speed, I got almost 150mph.

Weakness:

There is very little room in the back seats.

I think its a very nice, quick car that is really worth its money. I would say its a great car for someone who wants to make a really fast import.

Well when it was time to get a car i had three cars narrowed down, the prelude, celica, and eclipse. The eclipse is a bit of a different animal than the other two. It is a true GT car. It doesn't have the twitchy feel of the others. If you enjoy driving but don't want to ring a cars neck to get any power then youll love this car. I've driven better handling cars, but this thing grows on you. I guess since I'm in my late 20's I am starting to appreciate a cars overall impression and refinement. The V6 is more than enough power, and pulls strong all the way through, and the positioning of the shifter is absolutely perfect. This car was my last choice until I drove it. The nice thing is that you really don't have to upgrade anything at all, my only personal upgrades will be a K&N drop in filter for added throttle response and gas mileage, and a set of Eibach springs for a bit more stiffness more than a lowering effect. Funny thing is, is that initially you may think the suspension is a bit cush, but after a while in the car, you actually can appreciate the silky drive of this vehicle. This said, I still will upgrade the springs because performance is what counts most in my book, especially in the twisties. Basically I have no complaints about this car at all and can see myself enjoying it for some time. This car car is more well rounded than the lude and celica and does extend a longer hand to the late 20 early 30's buyers. The celica seems like a boyracer car, while the prelude is simply expensive and a bit boring on the inside cabin. Oh did I mention 1.9% fianancing for 5 yrs!

Strength:

You name it! Speed, looks, cornering, reliability, sound and performance! If you want all these, buy this car!

Weakness:

Poor rear visibility on Spyder and the top leaks when emersed in water/rain. The stereo and climate controls should be switched around from top to bottom.

Im a big fan of import racing and have mainly been a Prelude Guy all my life until I bought my Eclipse. I am still a big fan of Honda's and the Prelude but I was just so sick and tired of getting stomped on by the Eclipse guys so I decided to buy one and be on top of the import class just like all Eclipse-Turbo owners are. As a Prelude owner, my worst enemy was the Eclipse, eventually I just gave up, and I guess if you cant beat em, join em! Now Preludes are what my Eclipse feeds on, I guess no one can stop the food chain. I have beaten 5.0 Mustangs, Vettes, and almost every Honda known to man. A Integra Type-R gave me a very good run and I was worried for a second. If you want a fast import, buy this type of car. 210 ponies stock in a car that weighs less than 3000 pounds, how could you go wrong?

Model Reviewed: GS-T

Strength:

The engine is pretty great, but below about 3000 rpm it has next to now power. Since I unfortunately have an automatic, there is not much to remedy this problem when trying to beat someone off the line. That is besides revving it in neutral and then dropping it into drive. I dont make that a habit though, as I like my money in the bank account. After 3000 rpm, however, power is quite rich, coming on smoothly, with the woosh of the turbo singing away. Once again though, power seems to drop off again near the redline, so there isnt really a point in redlining the car. I have remedied this with a K&N filter, and it now pulls noticeably, but not astoundingly, stronger. Power is now a bit more urgent from 5000 to 7000. Speaking of, having such a high redline allows the car to pull ahead of other when racing. i dont make this too much of a habit either, but the first time i drove the car, a Mustang GT was sitting beside me at the light. We stayed neck and neck the entire way minus the initial revving up to 3000. I eventually caught him, though. Fun stuff!
Girls really like the thing. I do too, but not as much as them. Lots of conversations at stop lights. Didn't happen too much when I was driving mom's 98 accord coupe.
Steering is great. Nicely weighted with just the right amount of feedback.
Pulling beside people and easing into the accelerator, letting the turbo whistle away in there windows.
This car was made for the summer! But when forced to drive in snow, it is very predictable as the steering transmits exactly what the car is doing. Much more so than all other cars I've driven.

Weakness:

The interior is a bit uninspired with nothing but gray leather and gray plastic. No other colors to spice it up. The stereo is in my opinion, over-rated, despite being an Infinity application. The speakers are crap basically. Putting them in enclosures as i did, however, greatly changes this. I was forced to do this as the car rattled and shook and creaked and protested every time a note of bass from that awful rap music us kids listen to hit. The rattling grew so bad, that I was no longer able to hear the high notes of the songs. Which leads to refinement. I've driven two Eclipses now, and both twisted too much for my liking in the curves. I may invest in a costly sway bar it annoys me so much. Not sure if that would remedy the problem though.
The biggest weakness of them all! The cost of parts. Amazing. I dread every time I start the car, cringing at the thought of the check engine light staying on as the others flick off. Every time that light comes on, expect at least a $700 payment. Seriously. It really sinks. And around 120,000 expect a lot to go wrong, as did on mine. The dealer told me that this was normal. In the course of 4 months, the car took $4000 of my hard-earned dollars. Since then it has been fine, running strongly on the first turbo still.

Basically, the Eclipse is this: A great driving car with a forgiving yet sufficiently stiff ride, a strong engine minus the intermitent hassles, and for me, an escape. There were many complaints I had about the car, but all in all, now that I have fixed the problems myself, and gotten rid of the squeaks, and added a slight amount of power to it, it is one of the best cars I have driven. The motor is a gem once you get beyond the mentioned dead zone. The seats are superb. The ride is balanced, with no preceptible uneven weight distribution. And on those summer nights with the sunroof open and the windows down driving on those curvy mountain roads, well, I wouldnt trade it for much else. Oh yeah, insurance is wicked if youre 17 as I am. No tickets or violations or crashed either. Blame it on the 220 hp and 230 lb-ft...but it was all worth the money.

Strength:

Quick acceleration, awesome handling, sexy styling, unbelievable after-markets, cult car popularity, I love my DSM!

Weakness:

Cramped interior, over crowded engine compartment (wiring + electronics), gun-turret windshield, low quarter-panel visibility. Stock items that you WANT/SHOULD/MUST upgrade from the get-go... spark plugs, ign wires, plastic turbo tubing, undersized worthless side mounted intercooler (front mount is sexier :), intake filter (trash the filter box). And for those serious street racers, upgrade the turbo to a Big 16G :) All of these are pretty easy and inexpensive to upgrade.

The GS-T is definatly the street sleeper. If you are looking for speed and unsurpased 4 banger turbo performance at low price, get yourself a turbo model eclipse. The first generation eclipses have a bigger turbo which equals crappy turbo lag. The second generation eclipses have a smallter turbo which almost kills turbo lag (not quite) but cuts down on performance. The third generation eclipses... *laugh*... well too many people in my area are driving these, and they put oversized wings, 13 inch wheels with dounut tires, those cheesie altezza tailights, they chop the muffler off and put on some monsterous worthless LOUD ass headache causing muffler with a pipe tip that sticks out a foot behind the bumper. And the problem is, there are about 10-20 of these running around, all the same, around the place I live. As for the non-turbo first and second generation eclipses, I haven't driven one, but I heard they're gutless. A guy at my work has a second generation GS and he is always drewling over my GS-T. The GSX model is sweet in the rain and all, in fact it is unstoppable in slippery conditions, but the added friction (all wheel drive) slows it's acceleration down, so the GS-T (front wheel drive) is definatly your best bet in a stop light match between the two.

Of course, this is with the upgrades listed above. Integra GS-R : *laugh*. Mustang 5.0 Cobra : he ate my dust, of course after a few hundred feet :P. Corvette : on the freeway, I wish I could have seen the look on his face. The 2000+ Eclipses (third generation)= POOP. The new eclipse's aftermarket is almost non-existant, and the cult car feeling is just not there. All third generation Eclipses look the same, and are usually driven by people who don't give a rat's ass about performance. V6 in a sports car? The only sports car worthy V6 engine I've dreweled over is inside a Buick Grand National.

front wheel drive

Great gas Mileage, fast (6.7 in 0-60, 15.5 quarter mile, and this was all stock), i have gotten my all-stock eclipse up to 147mph, good acceleration the whole way there, leaves any and all other 4 cylander vehicle in the dust, not to mention some 6 cylanders as well, like mustang, standard camaro/firebird, Grand am GT, non-turbo supra. It may not be as fast as some of those bigger engine cars, but it still keeps up through 50-60mph, only cars faster for under $50,000 are corvette, Supra twin turbo, Trans Am and Z28. anyother car belongs in the junkyard.
