Strength:
Good brakes, handling, looks, nice factory CD.
Weakness:
Paint scratches REAL easy, 14" factory wheels, very small interior, spoiler makes rear window useless. Loud! Way better than anything else for the price. Why drive a Cavalier, Civic, or Sunfire when you can drive this? Sure, its small on the inside, but a Grand Am is big and boxy, and the V6 is the same speed as the 4 cyl WITHOUT the turbo! Car has really good power for a 4 cylinder, revs FOREVER. Don't plan on taking more than 1 other person. Steering wheel is low and my right leg rests against the center console all the time. I am 6 feet tall. Headroom is okay. Trunk is useless, you can barely hold a few bags of shopping much less a box of speakers. Interior is somewhat sqeuaky, but a strut bar fixes that. The stock small tires sqeaul in the slowest turns. Solved that with 17" wheels. Car is loud (road noise and engine noise) on the highway. Smooth, solid ride. Everyone stares at it. Everyone asks about it. Handles great, even in Michigan winters. Factory CD stopped working since the winter came along. Speaker locations aren't the best for a loud stereo. Windows in this car fog up unless you have the AC or atleast fan on most of the time, especially back and side windows. I like this car alot, its not straight line as fast as some, but its sporty and there's not a whole lot around. Haven't had a single problem but hear they are unreliable. Strength:
Slick looking, 17 inch rims, comfy interior, stereo placement very good, smooth ride, good power, short throw shifter, good sounding stereo. I like the fact that the radio antennae is lined onto the rear window. Variable assist power steering.
Weakness:
Very cheap plastic interior, lack of features such as heated seats or traction control in manual. Build quality is questionable since I had to have the sun-roof railing replaced and there were squeaks and rattles from the dash. Side mirrors do not fold in for tight parking situations. Smallish pedals making city driving hard. Anyone over 6 foot I would be careful. The steering wheel looks cheap and feels too light. . Overall, a good buy if all you want is a very fast cruising car that looks more sportier than a Solara. But due to the lack of features, 23,000 seems a bit too much. But I think we're paying for the looks right now, and for that, nothing beats it on the streets. Similar Products Used: None |

Eclipse GT with Premium Package
Strength:
The looks. For this price range no other car out there can beat it! The interior is very nice, although a bit squeaky. Stock premium stereo sounds good for a stock system. LOVE the sportronic shifter! It’s incredible to be able to control the shifting yourself, or just through it over into full auto for those time when your stuck in stop and go traffic, or if your drinking a soda or something. Did I mention the looks? 17" alloy wheels on the GT. Smooth 3.0L V6 engine with plenty of power & torque for everyday driving. (It is quick enough to get out of the way of a semi about to pull into the same lane as you). I like the way the radio antenna is built into the rear window. The In-dash CD changer is great to. You don't have to get in the trunk to change out cd's. Disc brakes all around on the GT. Leather interior with premium package is very soft. Respectable gas mileage.
Weakness:
It's a sports car made by people that didn't want to make a sport scar. It's common knowledge that Mitsubishi designed this car for the more 'mature' crowd. And because of that it seems like power & performance did not receive as much attention as it should have. Even though Mitsubishi targeted the car at older buyers, you wouldn't be able to guess so from the commercials they are pushing. And most everyone I know with a 2000 (3rd generation) eclipse is under 25. Granted I've never driven a 'real' sports car, but I've driven in several classic muscle cars (mustangs, camaro's, gto's), and even they seemed like the could corner better. It does corner better than a Galant, which a friend of mine owns, but it still seems like there is a lot of body roll going around corners. As for performance, it seems they could have gotten more efficient use out of the 3.0L V6 than what they are doing. There are smaller 4 cylinders out there putting out the same amount of power! Overall I love my car. While it doesn't have as much power as you'd like a 'sports' car of this weight to have, it does have plenty for what I do. I don't drag race it or anything, but it's definitely always the first one in the lead from a stoplight :) The looks are incredible. Although for the price I paid I could have gone a little higher and gotten something like a Toyota MR2 Spyder, but that was a tad small for my taste. Similar Products Used: I considered the Mustang GT and the Mercury Cougar. I did test-drive the Mustang but the interior was way too plain for me. After reading some reviews of the cougar, I decided against it for various reasons. Look up some reviews on here to see why :) |

Strength:
Once the turbo is spooled, this baby cranks on the torque... you are pushed nicely into your seat :-). The turbo has the advantage of good gas mileage (like that matters anyways), plus, everyone (mainly the girls) loves the "swissh" sound of the stock blow-off valve. Stock, the car's torque level really doesn't have much competition left in it's class. Until you go up against a well-tuned V-6, you're pretty much able to pull up, rev, and take everyone in your class on the road, smoothly too. Even at highway speeds (70-90), the torque is still there.
Weakness:
Horrible rear-vision. Not-so-great side-vision. Backing up is not a fun ordeal. Manual tranny version seems to have some alignment problems that occur now-and-then (20 times in a year)... You think it's in gear, the shifter is, but the car's not. Doesn't really matter except those 2 times it's happened while racing... damn... Now that the 3rd gen (2000/2001's) are out, it's getting cheaper... this is excellent. This car has ton's of aftermarket parts (since the model is based from 1995 to 1999. The GST is still the fastest Eclipse (stock) on the road... Similar Products Used: None |

Eclipse GT
Strength:
I was originally going to get a 2G, but once they redesigned I loved the new styling. The GT has enough power for me, very comfortable (Have the premium package). There are many small things you can do to make it look better, and the aftermarket support is growing. The reliability was a big issue for me, since I plan on having this car for quite a while. From what I have researched, Mitsubishi has been very good, and just look at how many first and second generation Eclipses you still see on the road.
Weakness:
Turing radious sucks, not a whole lot of aftermarket support (But it is a new car, so give them time), would love to have a trunk pop on the car. The way the trunk is setup and the back seats don't really jazz me, but I can live with them. Overall I would say yes, but of course I own one. The car has been redesigned for a more mature and sophisticated ride, so it is not like the first two generations of Eclipses that were "boy toys" in a certain way. They aimed this at an older crowd, although most of the people I have seen or know are the under 25 group. I think for the price, it is a great balance between power, performace, and comfort (Talking about the GT here, my belief is that you could probaly get a little more car for the buck if you are looking at the RS or GS, but still would have gotten one becasue of the looks) Again though, I got mine three months ago and find myself grining every time I go out to drive it, thinking to myself, "Wow, I can't believe I own that!!" Similar Products Used: Well, I researched greatly (Almost three years worth) before buying. Other cars I considered were the Celica, Integra, Firebird, Cougar, Prelude. I felt this car gave the most for the price. Some cars will let you go faster for the same (Celica) but I don't like the new style. The Prelude and Firebird were a bit out of my price range, and the Cougar was under my range and read reviews that it was worth what you pay for it. |

Eclipse GSX - Turbo AWD
Strength:
Cheap power, great handling, easy to upgrade, fun to drive! Running strong at 145k miles on factory turbo.
Weakness:
Not very extensive aftermarket following for the 94 and older model Eclipse. When something goes wrong, it's likely going be expensive to repair (i.e. transmission, engine rebuild, AWD problems). The crappy factory exhaust manifold must be replaced with a 95 version. 195hp coming from a 4 banger? Explain to me how Honda is more popular with the Import crowd when you have the Eclipse, Talon and Laser. These AWD rockets have more power and better handling than any stock 4 cylinder out there in the pricerange - especially used. However, when buying used, you MUST inspect the car very carefully, checking the turbo and AWD components to make sure you're not picking up someone's used up garbage. it's the coolest looking thing out there...with the corrugated doors and all.
Weakness:
The V-6 is fast, but I'd like a supercharger (rumored in 2002). The interior plastics could be richer. I'd highly recommend it, it's a sweet car. Similar Products Used: ES300...too adult like. The Eclipse is tons of fun, a near sports-car. |

Great looks, plenty of power for a little car, runs smooth, corner well.
Weakness:
Has HUGE blind spot. Rattles, squeaks, and clunks excessively for a 5 year old car. Tiny back seat. I love this car! It's a great first car. I will have this car until I'm out of collect and have enough money to move up to bigger things(hopefully). It's not too expensive, looks great, and hella fun to drive (if you get a standard).
