Strength:

Incredible power for the price ( modified to 245HP ). Great looks, despite being a 96 model, the look is refreshing and much sharper than the current model. Turbo sound.

Weakness:

Reliability. Leg room ( I am only 5'8 and its a good thing this baby is an automatic or else I could not drive it - I cant even press the brake pedal without banging my knees against the wheel ). Hate turbos/ lag.

This is a FWD GS-T trim 1996 Eclipse. I bought it used with low mileage 5 months ago. I paid the equivalent of $15,000 USD ( I know its alot, but Eclipses are very rare up here ). This car has been modified to produce around 245HP- and it shows! Even though its an automatic tranny car, I bet it goes to 60 in about 6.5-6.8 seconds only! Also, the car is very striking. It is much more pretty than the new, ugly, american-looking version.

Anyway, aside from the eye candy and speed, this car is not recommended because it is UNRELIABLE. Mitsubishi has always been questionable when it applies to this area and now I know why. I had to replace the battery and wire cables within a few months, there was a recall back in '99 ( which my kind salesman ommited ) and now I must bring it down to the states to get it fixed, it has poor interior space, poor visiblity, and is impractical overall. The windshield spray fluid on the front doesnt even work anymore- talk about poor workmanship.

Do not buy this car; unless all you care about is the speed. In that case, get a 1996 model with the 5-speed gear box and do some mods to tune this car to about 260HP, and you will fly! Well, for a few months anyway ( then it will break down, one piece at a time )...

Strength:

This car is cute and fun to drive. The interior is comfortable and everything is easy to reach. Handle corners wonderfully!

Weakness:

My only complaint is the small trunk space but that can be easily overlooked.

I would recommend this car for a person without a family. It is fun and I have gotten tons of compliments. I purchased a maintenance package so that should keep it in good shape and I don't forsee any major problems.

Strength:

Great performance. Pretty good Infinity stereo. Good trunk space. Very good driving position.

Weakness:

Unreliable. Poor overall quality compared to other vehicles.

Would NOT recommend it. The relationship started out well, but after about a year, turned horrible. The car is a '97, with less than 15K miles, yet costs a fortune. Battery had to be replaced within three years. The car doesn't start in cold weather. Alignment is always off. Wheels damage far too easily. Stereo knobs break off. Windshield washer no longer sprays. Power door locks broke. Shakes at high speed, and much worse when you touch the break above 50mph. I drive the car once or twice a month, and really, really should not have this much trouble!

In addition, the car was ordered with a CD changer, and without telling me, the dealer installed a non-factory 10CD Sony changer instead of the Infinity factory option. The Sony broke, and then was stolen. There would have been no theft with the factory changer because the thief would not have seen an obvious controller in the car! It also would have been anti-theft!

Overall, there's a reason why the car was an all-wheel drive, 205 HP turbo for under 30K... the build quality and reliability is horrible.

Strength:

The car runs like a top, its fast stock and its been easy and cheap for me to make it a lot faster. It looks great. I love the interior. It is EXTREMELY easy to work on. I haven't had a single problem yet, the work I've done has been after-market ad-ons and oil changes etc. It handles well and I drive it rough. There are a TON of custom parts for it on the market. The trunk is plenty big for my 2 12" subs, amps, and a golf bag. Its great on gas.(30+ mpg)

Weakness:

The back seat is useless except for insurance purposes, but its a sports car, what do you want, a Cadillac?

They are generally expensive for a used car. Shop around a lot and be patient. You'll find a deal. I got my 95 for 6700. It took me 3 months to find the deal I wanted but patience paid off. Its a good car and its a lot of fun. If you do have problems its easy to work on. If your looking for a small car that's fast, good looking and good on gas, buy it. If your looking for more room and more "practical" uses like getting groceries, don't.

Strength:

FAST!!!, Great looking in and out especially from the drivers view, Easy to make faster. Threw great heat in winter, Handeling

Weakness:

5-speed transmission is clunky, too many little rubber hoses for coolant(atleast 6 plus the rad hoses), back seat a little small(but it's a sports car)

This is a great car! It is faster (with me driving) than a mustang 5.slow and is compareable to the Porsche 944.

The AWD is great in winter, never got stuck(even when I tried).

Did have some problems with it but they were wear and tair(tires, brakes, struts, Clutch)

Lots of Info and Help on the web about at: http://www.dsm.org, Read up before buying this car so that you know more that the seller.

People who bad mouth this car did not know how to take car of a sports car. "Burning oil" Come on, every car does that when you beet it up. And people who complain about cost to maintain take a look at Porsche or Mercedes cuz thats what you'll be passing.

Only 4 stars for overall cuz of the tranny.

Enjoy

Strength:

Looks good, drives well, fast, brakes well, handles well. That's about all I can say to the up side.

Weakness:

I had a week moment and bought the car for my wife. I'm a truck man and this was/will be my only experience with a sports car. For starters the quality of the interior just plain sucks. The door panel did not fit from day one the dealer messed around with it several times and ended up replacing the entire door panel. The sound system is ok but have had to replace two speakers, the cd unit and currently have two speakers on the outs. The retractable moon/sun roof comes loose all the time and have had the rails for it replaced. The battery died after 1 year. We got the run around over the leather seats, installed by Classic Trim in San Antonio, do not do business with Classic Trim, they suck on all accounts and the leather is cheap crappy junk. As for the dealer, well they receive ZZZEEERRROOO stars. Do not do business with Gillman, their service department is full of Neanderthals who couldn't wrench their way out of a wet paper sack. I am not satisified with Mitsu/Chrysler products and will not buy them again. Quite frankly all that is coming out these days is junk and not worth buying. Buyer beware, if you want styling fix your hair this car is a big piece of crap. I'll stick with my K2500 GMC, with no complaints whatsover, if I could only keep my wife out of my truck and in her car I'd be most happy.

Definately not worth the 24K(out the door) price tag. If you are 5'2" and want to throw your money away then this is the car for you. If you are 6'1" don't even think about it. Don't have any week moments and try to please your lady because in the end you will be disappointed and she will steel your truck!!!!

Strength:

Cute care for a younger person. Fast and sporty it was just what I was looking for at the time.

Weakness:

Ran into problems six months after purchasing it. Door locks and trunk lock quit working. Door seal is dripping out of the bottom of the doors. Locks are fixed but after having the car into the dealer six times to fix the door seal in the past year the problem has yet to be solved.

23000. I don't reccomend this car.

The car has stalled off and on for years, but no mechanics could ever figure out the exact cause. Lately it burns oil and smokes like a mo fo. It will shut off when driving down the road. Sometimes it starts and sometimes it doesn't. Paint looks like crap and the door handle broke about a year ago since it's made out of cheap plastic inside. Nothing but a POS and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
