Babe magnet! Personally, I think the Talon (which I have is not as good looking as the Eclipse, but for 2G less, who cares?) Runs like a raped date. Car is just plain fast! Comfortable. Great sound system. Good handling. This is my second DSM. Really slick shifter. Did I mention it's fast?

Weakness:

ABS is kind, well...MIA. With the FWD there is a distinct lack of traction when the turbo kicks in. But if you have an AWD you have to worry about the transfer case going out like a grenade. Oh, the woes of too much power.

Biggest problem is that it still is not as fast as a Mustange or a Camaro. Even if you mod it out, the same money put into either of the other two cars will net you alot more speed. But I still think it's a much nicer car. Besides, I baught it the auto-X, not the 1/4 mile!

$11700 at the auction. Book is about $14000 Retail and still well worth it. If your not afraid of having to fix !@#$, get a 1st gen DSM. Much easier to make fast!

Hade a 93 Laser 1.8 NT. NO POWER!!! But with springs and shocks it handled like it was on rails. Same will be true of this car.
Had a 2nd gen RX-7 turbo. Much funner/faster car, but I could hear it breaking from 50 feet away!

2000 model Eclipses

Great sharp looking car. I really like it and still from this day i still sit there and just look at it with amazement. acelerations is great too, will smoke other car from a dead stop. Obcurse, i did modified mine a little bit to kick a little of the high end. The car has performed nicely. Cornering is also great. In fact, cornering is so good I had out run a couple of tickets :o).
If you really wanna know, get one for your self and just play with it.

A great looking car, many aftermarket products, and always a winner with the girls, and a very HOT car at High School

Weakness:

Passenger room limited, no power, wears through brakes easily

I think the RS and GS are the worst cars to buy because of the engine problems that occur. I have spent $3000 in the engine just for it to run like it should. I have only 56,000 and have already rebuilt the engine. Eclipse's may look like cherries on the outside, but the engines are lemons.

Strength:

The Car Definitly has power and Styling. Great Sound System but some speaker vibration noticed. My stock GS-T Has Awesome power and can keep up with 5.0's and camero's with no problem. It is comfortable and the ride is smooth.

Weakness:

There is a clunking in the front end which surfaced about 3 months after i bought the car. Numerous service checks have not been able to diagnose the problem. No adverse effects, just annoying. Had one tweeter in the dash go bad but other thatn that I have been blessed @ 62000 miles and no major problems. I have changed the oil every 3000 miles and done every service recommended.

I bought this car brand new in May 1996 for $17995. It was an ad car and I made them stick to the price. Good deal I think?

Lots of power, awesome handling, looks sweet

Weakness:

has 38,000 miles....bought at 37,000 and has major electrical problems. Valves tick. Turbo whines loud when cold. Front suspension is going out.

paid $9,000 for car plus $1,000 for extended warranty. Paid low price because work for company. They are buying back and buying me new car of choice because of problems. Do not recommend unless you have it inspected before you buy by your own tech and is in good shape. make sure you buy extended warranty.

With a 1.8L engine in such a small car, get up and go is great. Heard that it only has 92hp but still kicks you knwo what. Good cornering

Weakness:

whiney engine when you push it hard but not much else. Replacement OEM parts are EXPENSIVE to buy

paid $4000 used. definite reccommendation for anyone. Sure, the new ones look sweet off the lot, but to have the 89-94 model and WORK on it, you get more pride in doing your own work. and it pays. When that musting 5.0 pulls up and thinks he can wind, pop the gear and take off. it works

Model Reviewed: Eagle Talon TSi (FWD)

Strength:

Amazing power, handles like a dream(although i spun out racing a prelude going 130+mph*still limited*) the turbo sound is sweet, when the turbo's cold it's loud, makes people's heads turn. Sharp looking design, but hey, what other four banger could make a V8 powered mustang/firebird/camaro owner's eyes bug out like "what da HeLL?!" sure ain't gonna be no civic

Weakness:

There's a ticking sound coming from the valves(well..my car has over 100,000 miles on it*highway*)pain to get to timing belt, clutch and headlights(gotta remove the airbox?! no1 said i had to disconnect the MAFS...i hate manuals). Turbo doesn't fully spool until about 2500rpm, limiting launch power and rev to a little over that. Rear suspension squeeks(fully independant symptom). And my brakes squeek...then again they've never been checked for over 100,000 miles...

I bought the car for $6800 with about 80,000miles on the ticker, had a new timing belt...the original owner(s) really didn't take good care of the car. the oil filter had a lot of things in it(feathers, leaves etc.) the upper IC pipe had a lot of oil residue around it. the turbo was coked all over the place(hence my 16G turbo upgrade). But while i drive the car stock, turbo wasn't coming on strong until just over 3000rpm...now w/ this upgrade, i'm at full boost(19psi) at merely 2700rpm and then drops to 17psi and stays there.

Similar Products Used:

the only car i'd say can compare would have to either be a Eclipse GS-T/GSX(i know i know same car same car). but nothing can really compare to that rush of turbo, well not for anything within the same price range as the talon/eclipse/laser(DSM)

Strength:

Good acceleration, braking, and cornering
Decent gas mileage
Fun to drive
Attention getting

Weakness:

Poor rear visibility, cargo space, and rear seat room
High insurance
Attracts the police rather easily

Bought used at $18000, 22.5K on it so far with no major problems. A little noisy, but that is to be expected on convertibles. Highly recommended for people who like to make an impression driving around town, but not too comfortable on long trips.

One note, the salesperson that I bought it from suggested selling it before 50K when it greatly depreciates.
