It looks nice, the handling on turns is good, and their is tons of trunk space. The gas mileage is good.
Weakness:
One word decribes this car... "GARBAGE". We bought this car as a fun car for my wife right out of college; It has had so many problems with the electrical system and engine. We bought it new for $17,900. Similar Products Used: BMW 325IS and the Chevy Tahoe |

Tha bomb-est of all 4 cylndered cars. Even a V-6 engine sports car cannot coped up on this baby. This is my very first car and I love it. I bought it w/ blow off valve and K & N air filter. Now I'm trying to buy a turbo timer.
Weakness:
Nothing really. Just take good care of it. This car is a babe-magnet. It's fast and Furious. No one else comes close. If you are the type of guy who likes street racing and picking up some delicous chics at the same time. This car is perfect for you. Similar Products Used: Integra type-R, Rx-7, and Supra's. |

The baddest 4 banger sports car under 30,000.00! I dropped over 3 grand into the car electronics, I have onboard navigation, DVD player and other bells and whistles james bond would get a stiffie from. 4 count em 4 12 inch Eclipse (made by fujitsu 10, not mitsubishi) subs taking up the back hatch in a clear plexi glass box, under that where the spare tire was is my nitro bottle. Blah blah blah, Total I've got almost 18k in the car.
Weakness:
It doesn't fly, and finding a performance shop that won't rip you off helping with the bolt on's I've since wrecked and bought another, I would not own another car and I'm gonna tell you why. I had a 1974 Chevy pick up pull out in front of me, I was running about 65 on impact. The front end folded up, but I walked away with one scar, and that was from the Compact disc visor. This car is extremely reliable when it comes to crashes at avg speeds. My nieghbors daughter was in a similar wreck, with similar circumstances in a 98 model honda prelude. She died, same wreck, that alone made me a believer. If you want a sports car and don't wanna pay 60,000.00 for one that everyone else has, spend half and customize yours one item at a time. I only recommend this car, or a mitsubishi 3000 GT VR-4 if your wallet can swing one. I also drive a 91 lincoln continental got for my wife Similar Products Used: From the factory, with only a borla, and cat back exhaust mod, and a high performance computer it would smoke my frens mustang saleen, a 98 z-28, and hang door to door from light to light with a LE Hennessey Corvette, all of this for half the price and HALF THE MOTOR! |

Ecilpse GSX
Strength:
For only a few bucks, this car an be a lot faster. The 1992 happens to have a 4-bolt rear end and mine happens to have a 2600 pound clutch...so launching at 6 grand and positive boost is no problem. The stock GSX runs 15.3. With the addition of a $40 bleeder valve, I was able to run 14.6, all this on street tires. The car is really upgradable from exhausts to turbos, blow off valves and clutches. If you throw on a 16G really quick, the car still looks so stock that you can even fool the dealerships yet you can run as low as high 12s on that. Throw on a frankie and you can run 10s. What's even more fun is to pull up right next to a new Mustang with "the cast of 90210" (as Buscher says) and smoke the pants off of it. 5.slows are no match for an AWD on boost. Even though the first gens have 15 hp less out of the factory, they have a lot more potential due to a larger head and throttle body. Keep in mind, it's only a fun car while it works...
Weakness:
The weaknesses out-number the strengths. Keep in mind I said it's only fun while it works. So far, aside from the transfer case recall: The valves tick, the blow off valve leaks, the cooling system sucks, the a/c doesn't work, my alternator died, and my head gasket blew. Beside that, stock Eclipses are sluggish at high end. When you up the boost, you run into fuel cut which pretty much feels like you're hitting a brick wall. With the stock exhaust, the car sounds like a lawnmower. Get an aftermarket system...it sounds MUCH better. The GSX is awesome for the speed/racing enthusiasts. Get this car if you want to rally or Auto Cross. It's a fun car but don't buy it new, it's not worth it because you'll void the warantee anyways. For $25,000 if you aren't going to modify it, buy another car. Be prepared to make some repairs. Mitsubishi charges a grip for repairs. Eagle Talon ES
Strength:
Handles resonable well. Fairly quiet. Supportive seats. Reliable if maintenance is done and not abused. (yea, I know, "what is the point then, right?) Fun to drive. Still looks good, and is fast (for what it is...)
Weakness:
Paint mediocre--chips/flaking on the mirrors---but still glossy where it is not coming off. Very slighty leaky head gasket--not a real problem. Could be faster. :) Crunchy shifting with old/inferior manual tran fluid--replace regularly. I wish I had a timing chain rather than a timing belt, too... (so I wont have to oay to have it replaced again at 120K) I purchased the 93 Talon ES used for $9400 with 39k miles from a Chrysler/Eagle dealer back in June 97. I have had to replace the idle speed controller when the pindle fouled around 44k. Cost was about $220ish for the part (cant really remember). Strength:
1. Drives nearly as good as the first day i brought it home. 2. good accleration 3. no maint. problems 4. good ac(cools quickly) 5. fun to drive 6. great gas mileage 30+ miles per gallon 6. a lot of after market parts
Weakness:
1. rotten egg smell from vents-sometimes 2. seats are not the most comfortable for long rides 3. replacing timing belt every 60K (mitsu. should use a chain) 4. suspension too tight 5. paint begining to fade 6. my car is dark green and i have noticed that the rear plastic panel above the rear bumper has deformed from the heat(i have noticed this on many other eclipses') Bought this car new (non turbo, 1.8L) currently has 122,000 miles. Best major purchase/car i have made in my life. My wife bought a 94 Saturn and it has declined in quality and routine wear much faster than my 92 eclipse. I beleive this car will become a classic, similiar to the old Ford Mustang. Similar Products Used: none |

Strength:
Quick, Handles well, Makes 240 Horse w/o Turbo on Aftermarket parts, First Gen Eclipse reliability far exceeds Second Gen, great access to all controls in cockpit
Weakness:
Backseat (like I actually use it for human beings), body problems such as easily chipped paint and easily dented, Valve cover leak This car is fun, nimble, and easily modified, more realiable and more MILES than '97 Model and still goes just as quick at 108,000 miles. By the way base Eclipses in the first generation have the same engine as the Turbo Model, but, and here's a no-brainer, it just doesn't have a Turbo. The first generation made the car popular, but Mitsubishi tried to improve too much on an already GREAT car. Therefore I recomend buying an '89-'94 model of either the Eclipse, Talon, or Laser. These are your basic fun sports coupes that won't disappoint. Similar Products Used: '95 Acura Integra, '97 Eclipse GSX |

Strength:
New styling, looks exotic, strong v6, excellent highway manners, 120-130mph no problem. Handles great, tight in the corners, and does not get upset on emergency manuvers. infinty Sound system sounds great.
Weakness:
Automatic, noticeably slower than stick on take offs. Goofy spoiler, keyless entry does not open trunk, and the fuel door should lock. An honest Mitsu dealer was hard to find in the houston area. V6 models are pricey, but perform well. The car attracks lots of attention from older folks and young. Mine is red, I have already had the police turn around and follow me. The interior looks of good quality, but the plastic scratches easy. would of liked the stereo controls on the steering wheel. I am very happy with 2000GT, it is easier to see out of than the 1999 gst. Both models look great but i prefer the 2000gt. The back seat is actually usable and tolerable on longer trips. The v6 pulls strong and runs great on the freeway 100mph cruising speeds without straining and still has room to increase speed. The v6 mates well with the automatic, unlike the turbo 99 gst. Great looking car (better than new body style in my opinion), attracts a lot of attention, especially convertible, women love the car (for the guys)
Weakness:
Attracts alot of attention. . I have had a lot of mechanical difficulties. Thermostat went out at 32,000 miles (right after warranty of course), clutch went out at 56,000, water pump went out at 62,000. Of course to get to the water pump you have to remove the timing belt, and it is due for a change after 60,000, would'nt want to pay for labor twice would we? I will never buy another Mitsubishi, I miss the reliability of my Honda (only oil changes for 80,000 miles) the next car I get will be German |
