Strength:

The double wish-bone suspension is great, the power is great, I love the car.

Weakness:

The back seat is small. In the design of this car they should've either made the trunk a bit smaller and pushed the rear seats further back or removed the seats and enlarged the trunk. I guess they figured it's fine the way it is. But it works for me, I love the car!

I would recommend this car to anybody. It has plenty of speed, it can corner like crazy, and plenty of power. I wouldn't recommend an eclipse older than 1995 to anybody. In my experience they've been unreliable. Anything newer than '95, go for it!! Only thing I would remind anybody to take into consideration is that, if you're young (like me, I'm only 19) getting ahold of one of these cars without a co-signer is a PAIN. And.. the insurance isn't cheap either ;)

1994 Eclipse -- 3 months after I got the car I noticed an oil leak. I blew a spark plug in the car. About 2 months after blowing the spark plug in the car I noticed the incasing of my air filter had about 2 INCHES of OIL in it... on top of all this the car was gutless as hell and had way way too much body roll to even be considered a sports car. That's about when I traded the POS in.

The best qualities in the Mitshubishi Eclipse are like no other. They offer great handling and awesome brakes!

Weakness:

None

I have loved Eclipse's since the 2000 model came out. I do have to say though that I do not like the new 2001 model of the Eclipse. They took away too much of its orginality like the hump in the hood and putting the lines in the side and the tail lights. But to each is his own and I really like my car and am glad to share my opportunity with each one of you!

Strength:

Body style, handling and top end performance. Car is a real attention getter. Remarkable quiet whith the top down. Remarkable fast for a four banger.

Weakness:

Car has 16000 miles, and I have to put in a new clutch. The car is a 4 cylinder and I do not hot rod the thing, so the clutch thing is really a problem for me. Rear visability, fake vents on the front.

Up until the clutch went out on the car, I was very happy with the car. I have had many cars in my driving life and I have never had to replace a clutch. Having to pay for a clutch at 16000 miles has soured me on the car.
I have like the car's performance on the road. It handled well and could make great time on curvy roads.

Strength:

Nice look, GREAT handling/cornering, smooth ride (if car is well maintained), awesome sound set up (you have to upgrade the speakers, but after that it sounds great cause it's a hatchback), no major mechanical problems at 76k.

Weakness:

LOTS of tire noise (that's why you upgrade the sound system :) ) front end is low, so you'll scrape tons of paint of the bottom going up inclined driveways or into gas stations, engine has been good so far, but did have a problem with a cylinder misfiring.. $140 to fix. Oh, it does go through brakes like crazy.

I bought the car used at just under 30k, and it's been great so far. I've done a little pre-maintenance on it, but not much... it has still run great. Expect to pay a lot for tires (even stock 16's for a GS are expensive) you'll wear them out quickly cornering like an Indy driver. Definitely consider the GS-T or putting a turbo in, you'll get beat by EVERYTHING at a stoplight. Very disconcerting to have a large van or Neon show you how it is. Overall, a good car. I would recommend it, but I've heard lots of horror stories too. Be careful, I'll be the first to say it isn't the most reliable. Maybe I've just been lucky...... Feel free to send me an e-mail with your own experiences with the Eclipse, I'd love to hear them. Any upgrade info you've done would be great too! Ryand8181@aol.com

Good handling (not awesome)

Weakness:

***Mitsu Service departments across the country are TERRIBLE***
I've gotten very few of the many problems I've had resolved at a service department. Since the car is still under warranty, I constantly get the "Cannot Recreate Problem" excuse. Sooo frustrating! And of course, the 2000 Eclipse is subject to lots of little annoying problems.

Can you say Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America ought to be barred from doing business in the USA??? Okay, I understand these are product reviews here, so I'll stick to the car from now on. The exterior is nice and sturdy.. The engine is responsive, and the sportronic is okay (I'd rather have a manual). The leather interior feels like the inside of a schoolbus, and the plastic dash rattles and creaks during cornering. I've had two major problems over the past year. The first was the car's inability to start on cool mornings (<50 degrees F), which occur very often in northern California. After 8 months and 4 service departments, I found out that the starter relay was defective. The second problem is that the steering wheel shakes at speeds greater than 70MPh. No one can figure this out.. I've replaced all four wheels, and balanced tires 7 times. Needless to say this is getting expensive. Only 22,000 miles on the car. I traded in a Honda--Now, I miss that car dearly...

I've had two Honda civics and an '83 Camaro... The reliability of this car is similar to the Camaro at 170,000 miles.

Strength:

Turbo is like getting slung from a sling shot. Even though the turbo doesn't kick in till about 20mph, who cares? Give that Honda, Ford, or Acura a good sense that they're gonna win at the beginning, then when you get to about 20mph, just floor it and get them a glass of water. Why? so they can clear all that dirt and smoke out of their lungs from choking on your dust!

Weakness:

What car doesn't have weaknesses? Even a brand new 2001 model is gonna give u some problems, but that's what a mechanic is for! And for everyone who complains that the back seat is too small, go and buy a Cadillac Escalade!

This car is bomb! I dont have any game when it comes to girls, when I clean up my rims and have my 1500 watt system bumping, girls try to get at me. I just sit in the driver seat and let them do the talking and jocking. Also this car is fast as WAHT? I took out my frined known as "mini Dave" in his little Honda Accord, all I did was sit there and watch his Accord struggle to try and keep up. If u like to get girls everyday of the week, then you need to get a spyder. And the fact that its a convertible just makes the ladies wanna jump in when I drive by. Plus I'm cute! What a combination! hehe =)
