Rough ride Sunroof switch

This car is a lot of fun. I like the speed and love the appearance. However, I have had a few issues. One being the switch for the sliding sun roof. It doesnt work all of the time. I have had it replaced once and still have problems. The other problem I have had is hitting pot holes have bent two of my rims. Each rim was around $450. In my city, a lot of the potholes are unavoidable. It is a rough ride, you feel every bump that you hit.

Strength:

Comfort, power, handling, looks

Weakness:

small back seat, hideous stock rims

First off, this is about the fastest car I could get for the money, and it handles like a dream (theres no reason to go fast if you cant turn). I have yokohama parada spec2's on right now, and with the all wheel drive, they wont let go of the road. It gets good gas mileage (28 highway) and it has lots of power (210 horse, 214 torque stock). Its a beautiful car, and I have had no problems. The stock sound is awesome (infinity) and the leather seats are very comfortable. You would be very lucky to own a car like this.

Strength:

extremely reliable good gas mileage (in getting 28 MPG great handling and very touchy on the gas for quickness.

Weakness:

rotors are weak slow acceleration (unless right conditions) rattles on the inside...crappy interior

i bought this car last marchat a dealer. it was a trade in for a hyundai (i dont know what the hell they were thinking). i got it for 3500 bucks with only 48000 miles on it. everything runs perfect. all ive had to do is replace the tires (normal wear obviously) belts, and....thats it. for being a 2 wheel non turbo it is prett quick around town. not the best acceleration, but not the worst. i have found that in warmer weather it will take off a little faster and also in really cold weather after it warms up quite a bit it will take off pretty well. i would much rather have a GSX but for the price i got it for and the miles it has on it this car has tons of potential. ive found this to be very reliable, never heard any weird noises from teh engine or tranny, all electrical works fine, the only problem is my brake rotors suck and whenever i have to come to a quick stop they bounce afterwards, but if you dont ride them too hard and dont hit them hard when cold they will be fine. i reccomend this car if you can find one with low mileage and a goo dprice. dont spend over 4 grand on one. if you want speed though get a GSX obviously.

Model Reviewed: Eclipse GSX 2.0 (TURBO obviously)

Strength:

Great Acceleration Great Gas Mileage Sound System Excellent

Weakness:

Difficult to see out of rear window, but it just takes getting used to.

It really bugs me that all these people who know quite possibly nothing about cars can bad mouth such a GREAT car. I have the 1g (1st Generation) Eclipse and it is excellent. The car is excellent. There is nothing else besides that point. People think the 03 V6 is Faster? Well, from experience, sorry to burst all your bubbles, but it's not. Besides, most of these junkies buy the CHEAP model of the Eclipse. If you're going to buy a SPORTSCAR then why do you buy the RS or GS, then you talk about it like it's the worse thing you've ever purchased. All it takes is good maintenance and regular oil changes. Alson, people talk about turbo lag? Well, what do you expect from a Turbo charger? That's how they all work, unless you have the money to dump a huge turbo onto your car. It takes time to SPOOL!!! I've wanted a 2nd generation Eclipse GSX also, but found that the 1st generations just drive a lot better. If you're thinking of buying a used Eclipse, make sure you know what you're doing and don't buy a lemon from a guy who has beaten up the car and has performed barely any scheduled maintenance. That's the bare facts on it. If you're considering the 03 Eclipse, make sure it's a GTS. With all the weight you're going to want all the muscle you can get out of the car. It's still excellent, but not as fast as a 2nd Gen GST or GSX. I now own a 03 Evolution. If you want speed and looks and great performance, this out does any of the other cars that Mitsubishi has put out. A lot of people just don't know what they're talking about. They don't know cars or how to handle a car. Understand your vehicle and what it can do before purchasing it.

Strength:

good looking. good gas mileage

Weakness:

drivetrain, electronics, alarm system, transmission, engine, and all together flimsy design

this is quite possibly the worst car i have ever had. even with a chrysler motor, parts are expensive (300 dollars for a head light) and the drivetrain is worse than a ford pinto. i have had so many problems with this POS that i would never buy an eclipse again. i am aware that any new car is a nice car, and therefore i would buy a new eclipse, but used eclipse's are like buying a chunk of crap. all pre owned eclipse's are usually driven hard and put up wet, being that they are high performance and affordable, many careless people can buy them and rag on them. my transmission blew after 2 weeks of driving. when it went to be fixed, the ball joints blew and the car no longer even started due to the less than satisfactory alarm system malfunctioning.

Looks great, gas milage, reliable, and moves with minor upgrades!!

Weakness:

Cost for Mitsu parts$$$$!!!!

I own the 1994 Mitsu eclipse 1.8liter with the 4G37 engine. I love the car,it looks awsome, and after some upgrades it can move. I have 230,000 and counting on the original engine and still runs great. Burns nothing but gas. No smoke... Car gets great gas milage and will run for ever if maintained! I have removed cat, crank pully, custom built intake,5zigen exhaust, and 1999 eclips GST spyder chrome wheels, along with painted mirors to match car paint. Well worth the money for me, and anyone else whom loves 1G Mitsu's!!!!

Strength:

Acceleration/Turbo (210 hp). Looks (metallic paint, agressive styling, wheels). Stereo System (210 watts).

Weakness:

Build quality (pwr window controls caved inside the door; happend twice!). Ride(well, it IS a sports car)/rattles over bumps. BE CAREFUL in bad weather (FWD version, no ABS- but it's an option). Weight (too heavy for a sports car). Turbo's sluggish in warm temp. Turbo lag- but it's not that bad, just get used to it, then you can anticipate when that rush will come in:)

I bought this car brand new (back in '94), and I still drive it. It has given me quite a bit of problems throughout the years (usually minor), but I can't help it, I still love it. It's fast (turbo version), the stereo rocks, and it still looks great after all these years! By the way: don't trust anyone else to work on the car except for a Mitsu dealer. They're expensive but they know what they're doing.
