Strength:

Good firm grip on the road when traveling fast on innerstate highways. Reasonably cheap to buy second hand.

Weakness:

As said before : Build quality ! I've just replaced the cooler (400 quid). And I've had to replace the idle stepping engine (450 bux) and not to mention the rear exhaust pipe (320 bux). The car quirks a bit, not from the engine but from the cheap plastic interior, easy to fix, but I'm not one of the guys who likes to play with a screwdriver.

Nice car to drive. Torque a bit to small but top speed quite enough for city driving. Expensive to own. Parts are expensive in Sweden as well ! Stylish design. The blue one is the winner ! There are 4 red ones in Gothenburg but only 2 blue ones (and the other one looks like crap!)

Model Reviewed: Eclipse RS

Strength:

-good acceleration for a 2.0L
-not too bad gas mileage
-pretty looks, attention getter
-nice aerodynamics
-lots and lots of potential for modifications...
-decent trunk room

Weakness:

-tranny-shifter movement in 5th gear
-pops out of 5th gear when you pass 80mph unless you hold it...
-everything rattles
-too little space in the engine to work in it.
-seats are too low
-useless backseats
-cant see much in the rear view mirror coz rear windshield is too damn high
-suspension sucks huge donkey ballz...
-squeaky noises all around...
-parts are so expensive to replace!

Not very impressed! This was my dream car back in highschool and now I finally have it, its a nice car and everything but I only had the car for a couple of months and its causing me a lot of expensive problems like shifter movement in the 5th gear, timing belt tensioner and idler pulleys went out just two weeks that I had the car, had to replace the waterpump, thermostat and all the gaskets on this piece of crap! Whoever design the engine and tranny on 95-99 eclipse non-turbo models must be smokin' some crack when they did this piece of shiet! Already cost me $1500 in repairs and right now we're about ready to drop the 5-speed tranny down to rebuild it. Don't buy the RS and GS models coz they have the same engine like the Dodge/Plymouth NEON's!!! Pieces of shiet! Good Luck to ya'll!

'95 Mazda Protege-doesn't match Eclipse for power, but it exceeds the Eclipse for reliability and overall room.
'91 Pontiac Grand Prix-has better gas mileage than Eclipse even it has a V6!? lots of room and better view of everything.

Strength:

It has no problem with getting up and going. You can easily pass cars on the freeway and watch them disappear in your rear view mirror!!!!!! If you want to pick up chicks on the weekends or on the way to work this is the car for you.

Weakness:

Slow off the start until the turbo kicks in. When windows are rolled down and you hit a bump they rattle too much and it is automatic.

I have had this car for only two weeks and I love it. It is fast and a great chick magnet and it is still stock....wait till I am done with it. I love the sound of the turbo spooling.

Similar Products Used:

Mustang 5.0 , Civic Si, Intergra GSR, Camaro Z28, and Trans Am. I have only been beat twice by two different Integras a GSR super charged and a Integra Type R, but not by much. Wait till I put on my bolt on mods they won't hang. It is bone stock right now, so just wait. For the price you can't find a better sports car.

Strength:

Power, great styling, great stereo.

Weakness:

Poor reliability, cramp interior, mediocre handling, poor powertrain.

(1997 Model) - I may have had a lemon, but I have had nothing but trouble with this car. Here is a brief list of defects: Alignment. Two rear speakers and whole head unit. New battery. Turbo cooler line leak. Valve cover gasket leak. Crank thrust bearing. Crank rubbed into block. Clutch master cylinders. All with only 40,000 miles. Aside from that I have a so-called sport car that I have to drive like a sedan. Remember keep all maintenance records or you will have trouble getting warranty service due to ""abuse"". I am waiting to pay off my loan and off it goes. Big mistake.

Looks great, looks great, looks great, looks great, did I say it looks great?

Weakness:

the back seat can be used for anything but to seat a tird person. you might gey some leaking through the roof it it rains for more than 3 days. when the top is up, it is impossible to turn to see the blind spot, I solved the problem by adding convex mirrows to the stock ones.

I wanted an eclipse ever since I can remember. Well, my dreams came true and I am loving it. The car looks great, especially if you drop it about 1.5 to 2 inches. The engine has not given me any trouble at all. Great for a day at the beach with your boys, definately a babe magnet. However be prepared to pay alot in case it breaks down . I recomend you use synthetic oil as soon as you buy it, it makes a big difference, but it will cost you.

Strength:

Looks and styling are a plus. It handles well (but i think I'm going to invest in some Eibach springs). It's as fun to drive as it is to look at.

Weakness:

Limited field of vision, major blind spots in the rear and limited passenger space in the back. Also, I've had problems with the CD changer.

Overall, this car is the best value for the money compared to any car in it's class. The design is very cool and contemporary, but this car is fun to drive! I would recommend the GT to anyone I know. Overall, it could use a little more power and a little better handling on the turns, but hey I'm not driving on the Indy 500 here.
